Think of it as identity theft but for vehicles.

Eg. Imagine if someone here has a black R1 with plate no. FZ1234Y.

Someone else here, with mischievous/malicious intent who also happens to ride another black R1 may place that said plate number (FZ1234Y) on his bike to do several offences such as but not limited to; speeding or illegal parking. The 'copycat/imposter' will escape from the fines scott-free and the poor sod with the actual plate number will get a love letter from our government in the next coming 2 weeks.

P.S. The above mentioned plate number is for illustration purposes only, if the number really exists to a black R1, its purely coincidental . :D

it's more or less keeping the bike's owner id confidential.

on the web there r many strange beings....u never know wat will happen when u r expose.

for example, why do u have nick name instead of your true self name?

there r ppl whom r sadist, luv doing sadistic things to others.

u never know but happens all the time in the web, eg. abusing for their own amusement.

u might tot this is a friendly forum but think not, be aware.

dun giving ur cell phone number to anyone, u may think of them as friends.

u may have strange calls nights n days or they send to advertising firms for their quotas.

I see, so that makes perfect sense now.. Thank you :)

I see, the above reply did explain what can they actually do to it though. Thank you very much for sharing too! :)

a year or two ago such a case did occur, reported in the papers. a discotheque bouncer owned a brand new white mitsubishi evo-something. he spotted a customer who drove the exact same model, and took note of the number plate. he then replaced his car's plate with that number.

why? he defaulted on payment. by changing the plates, the shop couldn find the car to repo. why must be same model? coz a cursory check even by mata would reveal a record of the number plate belonging to a white mitsu evo. of coz an internal check with the chassis and engine number would reveal his ruse, but how often does that happen? only at vehicle inspection or LTA see illegal mod and impound.

better still, with that number plate he didn bother with parking coupons. coz the summon letter goes to the number plate, which was the actual owner of the number. but this was where he was too clever, coz the summon letters went to the puzzled real owner, who reported to police that he never parked at the summon locations. so the number plate was flagged by parking wardens. the next time the bouncer's car with stolen number was summoned by warden, an alert came up and the real owner was called to see if his car was parked there. and the real owner said no, so mata came down to the bouncer's car, and got arrested.

so it can happen. but bike not so easy coz if mata check with you onboard, confirm kena check insurance also, and game over coz you obviously wont have insurance for the stolen number plate. but still can 'free parking' like the bouncer.

It's true: it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than to ride a fast bike slow. Admittedly, though... It is MOST fun to ride a fast bike fast!

I see, I still believe in the long arm of justice but precautions are to be taken hence the censorship of number plates here in the forums.

In addition, thats alot you can do with a person's plate number like go onemotoring.com under 'transfer' and you can get his log card too. Among those things mentioned

I still don't get it though, on the road, in the carpark everyday, hundreds or even thousands of people can see your bike/car with the number plate, why the need to black out the number plates online?

Let's say, kraikk is very irritating posting offensive remarks and keep scolding people on SBF. Being humans, there will be some who will take it to heart and start to habour evil and malicious intentions towards you. Knowing where you frequent, where you repair your bike, there may be people going the extra mile to follow you all the way to your house, then when you park your bike, cut your brake hose, open your engine oil filler cap and put sand inside, smear chocolate on your mirrors, disconnect your spark plug cap, smash your mirrors, throw cigarette buds into your exhaust etc.

I have friends who already come and disturb my bike. Sit on it. Play with my mirrors and switches. Force my gear to gear 1 (My bike engine need to be running to effortlessly change to gear one, so normally they just smash it down when parked).

If my own friends can do that, what more perfect strangers who may be harbouring ill thoughts about you because you are some keyboard warrior who says in a sarcastic manner on "Why you still don't get why people censor out their number plates?"

Food for thought bro.

Haha thanks. Hopefully no one thinks that of me.
