Why don't you go into the specific scooter thread and ask for owners opinion of each make? That way you can easily sum it up and prolly know which to get.

Hello everyone,

 

I need some advice on which scooter to buy. I am getting tired of the public transports here (it used to be convenient, but that time is over) and want to buy a scooter to go to work (20 min ride twice a day, give or take) and maybe for a trip around the island in the weekends.

 

I am in the process of getting my riding licence (2B) and will be allowed to ride up to 200cc.

 

Could you give your suggestions on what brand/model of scooter to buy? I would like to buy second hand.

If you want cheap and good, go for the Taiwanese brands: PGO, Sym, Kymco.

If you want stylish, go for Vespa, Aprilia.

If you want brand-name quality, go for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki.

 

There is also Daelim, a korean player.

 

$3-4k can get you many

 

Personally, as a first bike, I'd get a relatively new (4 years or newer) scoot from the Japanese or Taiwanese with a good local agent. Bike maintenance is a big headache for newbies who often have to pay school fees to unscrupulous shops.

I mean the sole distributor. Like Boon Siew for Honda, Motor Sports for Kymco, Hiap Aik for PGO etc. They're like wholesalers in the market. All the vegetables come from them.

 

Give Motor Sports and Hiap Aik a call. They're both in Macpherson (very near to each other). Both have quite a few 2nd hand models. They do their own servicing and are well-established agents. Parts and workmanship shouldn't be a problem. Unless you know your way around, give the smaller shops a miss.
