Hi guys, recently i bought myself a bike with a // twin engine, carb model.

idling is smooth, high rev is smooth. but from 1krpm till 6k rpm, the engine is very rough, feels like the petrol nv enter

when on the move, the bike is like choking, going to die off, cannot rev up, but engine will nv die off. just changed spark plugs. totally removed the air filter but problem still persists.

No more regrets.

could it be that your valve is dirty?

you can try at *gear 2/3(on highway) rev near red line and hold it for 5-10sec to burn off all the left over dirt

*matching the speed on highway

eg: if gear 2 near redline is about 60km/h then gear 3 should be roughly be around 80 to 100km/h

If its a steed, shadow, remove the left hand cover, you see connectors, remove them and check if they are fried. Then use black tapes and scissors to connect them back together.

Experienced a similiar problem, and it was due to the tank having water in it and it flowed to the carb on reserve.

How to rectify problem?

Easy method.

-Need to bleed the carb. Open the exit valve under the carb with a screwdriver to drain the unit. It everything is alright, petrol should be flowing out. If there is water present, liquid flowing out will appear to be little yellowish liquid mixture that does not seem to act like petrol. ie Will not evaporate , forms droplets on places it falls on. It will not seem like water but it is! Becos it has mixed with petrol and has become yellowish.

A bit difficult but permanent method.

-Take off the seats and the tank to clean the tank and carb unit free of water . If you know how , DIY or opt to send it to the shop for sevice . (Carb unit is normally secured to the engine by tighteners, Allen key will do the trick. V-twin will have two carbs so remove two tighteners and there should be about six other points to remove further. Namely two for the acceleration control to the throttle (one for each carb) , one for petrol air mixture feed (to the engine below) , one for the outer vent valve , other two will check them out and update later .

Do check your oil filter as well , it runs along your fuel line after your petcock before running into the carburetor .

Sometimes after time , rust gets build up in the filter due to the tank not being filled up fully for most of the days, leaving air and moisture which will condense on the inner surface of the tank to form water on hot days esp if the bike is parked under the sun.

So fill up your gas everytime you use your bike to keep this from happening.

Doing everything DIY that I can now.. Judging by the way things are rite now , it is for the best..

Makes you stronger and less dependent on bike shops.

Encourage others to do likewise and help new riders identify fair deals online~ thus making direct seller to buyer purchases.

Its the only way we can push the motorcycle industry in Singapore forward.
