I dunno about SP. I took my SDWSH from Ngee Ann. I don't have diploma or degree in Engineering or Technology. I apply in Sep/Oct last year, get into bridging course (Apply Basic Maths and Science Topic in WSH), finished, go into SDWSH in January 09, completed in End June 09 and got Registered WSHO today.

No bro,

You need to work as a safety personnel (doing safety officer work) for 2 years. Not necessarily after you complete your SDWSH. In fact, safety coordinator is something like safety officer, only thing they look after smaller projects.

When you apply for WSHO, you need to submit "professional review" of at least 1,500 words. Also need to have letter of employment from company comfirming your safety work for the last 2 years.

I'm already registered. Yesterday I collected my certificate. The certificate is actually a card, something like Crane Operator. In front is the Certificate of Registration with your photo. At the back say you competent as WSHO.

jus completed my advance cert wsh in july. currently looking for job to gain experience. no experience really not easy to get a job...

Hello bro,

Take any safety job that come along. Even if safety supervisor. Cos this will slowly give you experience. Don't worry if pay is not what you expect or what people say market rate. Take it as OJT allowance. Then while working, look out for other opportunity.

Tell you seriously, I only start safety in 2006 as supervisor with only BCSS. Somemore my BCSS take only in early 2007. My pay that time was miserable.

From there I take Manhole supervisor, Safety Coordinator, Oil/Petrochemical Safety Supervisor, Risk Management, Confined Space Safety Assesor, Lifting Supervisor and then SDWSH.

Frankly speaking, my experience in safety only 3 years.

But I think the important is your "passion" for this work. And also type of experience. KNN, if experience is only on site safety supervision all the way, surely finish lah.

so bro SEXKID, hows the WSHO job coming along?any advice...

Hello bro,

I just got my WSHO cert yesterday. But actually, I'm already doing the function and responsibility of safety officer in my company.

I think there should not be problem getting a job as WSHO so today only, I look through newspaper & internet, saw a lot of opportunities for WSHO.

The problem for me is that I told my company that I will only start looking for another opportunity next year leh.

Anyway, I think I will apply some, go for some interview. If offer pay me much more than my company, I think I say too bad to my company and go lah. Ha ha ha. Must look after rice bowl first, right?

Hi Bro,

Just apply for the SDWSH. You can have experience and course together. If you wait to do one step by one step, it will take you eternity leh.

Let's say you get SDWSH but not so much experience. No problem. Just find work as Coordinator first lor. Surely you advantage against others in coordinator job if you have SDWSD while others have Advanced Cert.

Professional Review not difficult to write. Actually they got guidelines. I've seen some people write but I think they missed the points from MOM. MOM don't want to know your routine work. Many I see write they do TBM, etc, etc. MOM want to know what you do that that is Safety Officer job.

Anyway, when you need, I can always show you mine. I don't say is the best lah. But I think I wirte one, quite OK.

Anyway, bros taking the advanced cert or SDWSH, if you need any help with your homework or assignment, can let me know. If I can help you, I will help you.

I never take the Advanced Cert but I think should be no problem for me to help you.

For SDWSH, if you take from Ngee Ann, I think no problem for me help you. You take my assignment as example. Don't copy direclty because they can find out. But just use the example and idea, then surely no problem.

Also, my advice for elective to take construction even if you in other industry. Easiest to do lah. If you take chemical, good luck to you.

Becos got few time bros PM me ask me how to apply and what document to submit, I think I put down here what I did for Ngee Ann Poly, OK? Hope bros can find useful.

First is I submit my 'O' Level. You must have pass English and Maths hor. At least P6. S7 or S8 cannot. Don't submit 'A' Level. When I apply to SP, I use 'A' level and got rejected. They say becos I got no 'O' level pass in English and Maths. KNN, the admin don't know that 'A' level higher than 'O' Level leh.

Also submit Company letter detailing your job designation, job description and years of service. If just join, better get letter from previous company also.

Also submit CV in following format;

Work Experience

Period of employment

Company

Job Designation

Job Description (please do not be too brief)

Type of Industry (eg. engineering, construction, marine, etc.)

No need pay money first.

Now, if you got diploma or degree, no problem. Sure get in one if able to apply. If got 'O' level, surely cannot go for the course. But they will ask you take the Apply Basic Maths & Science Topic in WSH module first. This you MUST take. After take, sure you get into SDWSH.

Another thing. Although they never ask, also email your NRIC front and back. Cos in the end, they sure ask you. So might as well email first.

If you want sample Letter of Employment or CV, I can give you. Free of charge. Just PM your email to me. You can use it, put in your company name, change the experience to your experience, etc.
