I was awarded a medical certificate from a private doctor and informed my senior project manager but he insisted to continue my work. I told him that I was really sick but he did not even care about it. So when I told him that I am leaving, he did not say anything. Instead, he engaged another foreign Safety Supervisor. Many times, he mentioned to me that he hired me just to be a mediator to MOM and LTA during the PGI. Well, till this date, I still unable to settle for a decent job. Any help....., thank you....

the sd in wsh is tough and demanding...u may get a culture shock.some of my clssmates even said that it is much more tough than part time degree.if u all tink it is come to class n go home kind of ting then my advice u forget abt tis course.even the re assessment is not the normal kind,it is one to one interview.it is all abt competency base.u must answer all questions right.1 wrong u r not competent.next if u tink u can skip class then forget abt abt tis course.since it is funded by WDA u must have 80%attendance else u r not competent although u pass all the assessments n projects.worst u haf to repay $4.5k to wda.the 20% tat u can miss include MC not exclude like skool days.so attendance is impt where u haf to sacrifice 3 block of 4 hrs every week.it is no chicken feet if u r working and got family.....the reason i state all tis is to make those taking up tis course aware.coz wen i took up this course,all tis wasnt spelt out clearly until the first day.by then too late but still some of the guys back out coz canot commit.now awaiting whether need to pay wda.

 

if u tink u can copy then also u r wrong.they haf method to check for plaigrism.i had 2 classmates whose 6 words sentence were similar in their project.they were hauled up by the lecturer for explaination although they are not associated in any ways accept both come from same class.....so u guys be prepare to sacrifice for 5 mths if u wan to take up tis course.

yes u qualify for the Spec Dip but be reminded that the next intake will be next yr.i strongly advise u to call up S'pore Poly or Ngee Ann poly and book your place,if thats allowed.get in the waiting list.dun waste this golden opportunity

relax.....me also just completed this SD course in NP recently...elective in marine...its not reali tough and the materials for the reports n assignment are from ya workplace it self...so if u know where to get it..its okayz...

its true they will check the reports to see if deres alot similarity...but reali..most of the question will ask the same question so the ans will be no doubt be the same...for certain questions ONLY..hehe..the rest depends on ur company practice , so unless u are from the same company like the previous batch..its kinda similiar...relakx.. k..I do enjoy dat course..cheers to all joining..!!

The course will not be very hard and should be quite easy to get thru if you are currently working in a safety department or safety related and have access to the co. SMS.

 

Safety officers and WSHO are professionals. If you only want to get by the day for the pay.......its better to look else where. Coz you will probably be sick of the job very soon.

 

My advice is also that if you really thinking of working as a professional, work for reputable companies that preach and practice safety. The few constructing companies i recommend to look out for which will be very good portfolio for you guys if you wanna pursue a professional career in this line:

2) Worley Parson

3) M+W Zanders

4) Dregages

5) Gammon

6) Bachy Soletance

7) Woh Hup

 

Several local companies are "lip service" companies. Avoid working for them.....coz you probably wont learn much. btw, japanese and korean companies also not very impressive in safety. I no need to name....you know. If you thinking to work in the construction line, go MOM website to look out for records of companies being fined by MOM, companies under "business under surveillance" and also kana demerit point ones. Then you decide yourself whether to join. Keep a look out of companies with awards from WSH council or always featured in newspapers for good safety practice or commended by MOM.

 

Initially when you get registered, work for high risk industry first to build experience....better for you in the future.

 

Please take note that taking and getting thru the course is not hard. But to eventually get registered with MOM and to proof and justify the registeration is sometimes the tricky part. Its a hit or miss situation. So please dun tink take course will naturally become RSO liao......still long way to go. Get registered also doesnt mean you know how to get the work done and protect yourself. Remember that working as a SC or safety sup previously does not neccessary means you can do a SO job well. Especially if you don't do much paper work kind if you are working your way up. Take every chance to learn paper work with your SO, went thru a few audits and participate actively and take the initiative to learn the SMS thoroughly. I have come across so many of my SC with half pass six kind of paperwork.....waiting to be killed.

 

My final advice: Know your responsibility, know your job! Good luck!

basically, just apply online when the course opens, and den quickly fax or email to poly the checklist form. u can download the checklist from the SD in WSH website.

 

den, wait for them to assess ur qualification. once ur shortlisted, they will contact you thru email to inform you that u are selected for the course.

 

i waited about 1 mth before getting email from SP that im selected for the course.

I've finished the Specialist Diploma in WSH. Today also got email from MOM that they will send me a letter to collect my cert, etc as a Registered WSHO.

 

Actually hor, to apply for the course, the documents not difficult. If you need any document cannot get, you can PM me and I teach you how. This one don't need luck. You just need to know what to do.

I know of SC basic pay is $2.5K up to $4K. Also depend on industry.

I dunno about SP. I took my SDWSH from Ngee Ann. I don't have diploma or degree in Engineering or Technology. I apply in Sep/Oct last year, get into bridging course (Apply Basic Maths and Science Topic in WSH), finished, go into SDWSH in January 09, completed in End June 09 and got Registered WSHO today.

Sorry not allowed. You can only register youe name/email and they will email you when course open.

 

When course open, you must register by 1st day. Wait for next day, sure finished.

 

The last registration for Ngee Ann poly in August, KNN opened and 2 of my kakis application get thru. The rest wait next day, application closed.

 

Also those apply must wait for confirmation. Cos have 400 applications. So don't know get or not. Or if get dunno which batch.

Now no more SC cert. BCA, like poly and SC2 now only conduct Advanced Cert in WSH. All the cert the same although teaching methods, assignments, tests may be diffirent because set or conducted by different lecturer lah.

 

BCA cheapest cos full price is $1.9K you only pay 10% less than $200. SC2 haven't get SPUR funding yet. Poly is $3K plus so 10% is $300 plus.

 

BCA easiest to get in. just go and apply, pay money and they tell you when next course. Of course must prepare documents.

 

My kaki just show N Level, BCSS, and company letter. Go in July, course start in August. Another Kaki go in July, but since he busy in August, his course start next month.

Everytime I got Shut Down Maintainence or Turnaround Maintainence, I always look for people to do part time safety for 2 weeks to 2 months depend on how long the project.

 

Some of them, only got BCSS and OPSICS less then 6 months ago. But nevermind, take them so they can experience lah. KNN give them $12 per hour, they say too low leh. KNN, last month I got 1 Safety Supervisor do 1 month. With OT he get about $4.5K very happy leh.

 

Who want to work in this line, must have the heart in this line lah. Also must got guts. KNN I got one Safety Supervisor, climb up pipe rack, KNN scared to climb down. Take one hour, slowly persuade him and finally climb down. Client KPKB leh.

Dont frighten people lah.

 

Course attendence is important. Assignment is also must do. Test also must pass but not until so serious like you put lah bro.

 

For Test, although must 100% pass, if you got wrong, they will do retest. The retest is only on what you got wrong. Somemore, by interview. So they give you your question paper back, you see which one you wrong, go and check the answer and then come your turn, you explain to him lor.

 

Assignment you submit. Got any part wrong, they give back to you. You correct the part, add in more or whatever, and re-submit only mah.

 

Attendence, just make sure you get 80% attendence lor. If any day you think you going to be late, no problem. Ask one classmate tell lecturer first. Then you come later lor.

 

I have to work everyday including Saturday. Most of my class, I go late leh. Sometime go at teabreak time. So long you participate effectively, lecturer will understand lah.
