Anyone here wear spectacles and love to wear shades?

Thinking of getting a pair of shades but my myopia is putting me off...

 

Hate wearing contact lenses just for sunglasses and I think transition lenses are fugly.

 

What alternatives do I have?

I got a HJC IS-MAX at Motoworld.

You can try LAB, Chong Aik also, for other brands like Nolan...etc

 

Transition glasses will not work anyway, becos the lenses changed to a darker shade when exposed to UV.

And since many helmet visors are coated with anti-UV, the lenses on the glasses will not change to a darker shade.

 

The other point about sunglasses/ shades is that many comes with thicker 'arms' than normal glasses.

Unless your helmet has a pocket for the arms, you might have a tough time fitting the shades in.

i think at 4 eyers will like to wear a shade.. im one of them..just like ur thinking, don wan to put on contact lens.. so like wat u say buy a transition lens..but if im nt wrong, there is a limit for transition..if ur degree is like 500, ur lens wil be damn thick.. for me i use old "technology".. i buy those specs wif clip on shade...LOL.. not those uncle type whic can be fold up..

 

else u can buy those oakley shades inner part of in u can insert ur spec lens..but thats kinda of kok..cos outsider can able to see ur shade gt 2 lens..LOL...but its nt obvious if u nv focus on it..

 

else u can buy those lens wif colour.. but having 2 specs there is a disadvantage, as specs are different in some way, when swopping u might nt use to it since u seldom use

I wear colour sunglasses over my specs which are sold at the petrol shops. and i think i look good wiht them. but riding wise it is thick. oh , i also take out my old glasses only and paste them over my sunglasses. i had this idea when i saw a spec shop ( at marine parade) selling like this except the placing of the degree lenses are different.

I envy those people who are suitable for LASIK..

I can't wear contacts due to sensitive eyes. So I thought LASIK was the solution! I can't do LASIK too.. My cornea's too thin.. Guess I'm stuck with specs for the rest of my life! And I'm still getting used to removing my specs every time I put on my FF.

New laser refractive treatment

Just about six years ago, patients who wanted to correct their eyesight with laser refractive treatment had only two procedures to choose from.The first generation laser treatment was Surface Ablation (or PRK, LASEK and Epi-LASIK), and the second, LASIK.

 

Now, the latest laser refractive eye treatment, ReLEx®SMILE (small incision lenticule extraction), is available in Singapore. It takes the best of the two procedures and is less invasive.

 

A brief overview of the two earlier treatments: In PRK, where the surface of the cornea is scrapped off so that the laser can be used to reshape the cornea, the problem is the downtime – almost a week – for the cornea to heal and the patient to return to normal daily activity.

 

In LASIK, a 22mm circumferential cut (or sidecut with a cleavage plane) is made to create a flap in the cornea, after which the laser is used to reshape the cornea. The downtime is about 3 days.

 

However, the flap doesn’t reattach completely, so it is a potential weak link. In a small percentage of patients, there can be an inflammation under the flap and even years later, if there is direct trauma to the eye, there is potential for the flap to shift or be dislodged.

 

When the flap is made, it also cuts the nerves of the eye that are connected to the tear glands, which in LASIK is associated with increased risk of dry eyes. “The whole corneal integrity is also weakened to a greater degree in LASIK than Surface Ablation,” explains Dr David Chan, Senior Surgeon of Atlas Eye Specialist Centre.

 

The main advantage of LASIK compared to PRK or Epi-LASIK is the faster healing time, but the downside is a large wound, potential of dry eyes and corneal weakening.

 

When doctors learnt of this, they tend to lean towards Surface Ablation, although it has a longer healing time and is associated with more pain and discomfort.

 

In the latest generation treatment, ReLEx®SMILE, which is suitable for individuals aged 18 and above with myopia and astigmatism, the surgery is less invasive and relatively painless. Only a small 2-4mm laser sidecut is made on the cornea.

 

“The surface of the cornea is largely kept intact except for the small sidecut so there’s no risk of flap dislodgement. Because there’s no flap, the cornea is left stronger as well. So it has the benefits of PRK in preserving corneal structural integrity and the similar comfort and speed of recovery of LASIK,” Dr Chan explains. The smaller incision also cuts down dry eye conditions as fewer nerves are damaged.

 

The short laser time of 24 seconds and surgery time is the same whether you have a low or high degree of myopia and that allows for more consistent results.

 

Patients now have 3 options for laser vision correction, each with its own limitations and benefits. You should learn more about them and find out which best suit your needs for today and the future.

Do lasik man, i did mine 10 years ago and never looked back. It's still perfect vision today.

I had prescription sunglasses and clip ons. In the end, I used contact lenses so that I can wear sunglasses and also can look out of the corner of my eye. With contact lenses, there's a lot of brands. Find one that suits you. After trying different brands, I still prefer Johnson and Johnson's Acuvue because it's the most durable and I can wear it for long hours.

i sometimes use contact lens but it'll dry after awhile. especially when riding, the wind blowing your eyes out. so i use my clip ons these days. got them recently, they are magnetic clip ons at the side and look like ray bans so its easier to change even while on the move.

Try another brand or bring eye drops for contact lenses. I don't believe in lasik for now, so I have to stick to contact lenses

have been riding with spectacles for years! its inconvenient but nothing escapes your eyes. I do recommend you get a transition lens, or even consider helmet shades. THere is no better alternative especially if you have astigmatism.
