I think D ring is safer though compared to clips when accidents happen.

even with the rings the strap can just come loose in the event of a crash..so i dont see why TP are so ferocious about the quick release clips really..

just curious why the heck would this rare breed of tps check on helmet rings?

If your bike or riding style captures their attention and you get stopped, then the might check this and that.
