Hey guys,

I got my 2b license around Aug last year. Got into a bad accident less than a month after that. So a year later, I decided to start riding again. With a very small bike of course. So was just wondering, any tips for someone who hasnt rode in a very long time? Because from my knowledge, there is no refresher motorcycle course compared to driving. And it is illegal to ride someone else's bike. Advice and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

first it's illegal to ride your friend bike without putting your name and insurance as a subrider....

next go back to your Driving centre and speak to the chief instructor.... he will have better advice...

third if you die die have to practise riding again ...pls squash the idea of doing it in MY...it's safe and faster to get you to the hospital here...

Life sux..Take control ..and live it and pick yourselves up now.. die later

if the roads end ....i go off road

If you have friends who can offer you their bike for you to get the hang of it (with them around lah), then you can add as a sub-rider in their current motor insurance.

Alternatively, you can try to go for class 2A lessons to gain back riding and at the same time, try to obtain your class 2A license.

Most importantly, you have to be mentally ready to be back on the bike. It may takes a while to overcome the bad experience / memories.

All the best and have fun on the bike.

agreed with @SV650, the mental part is the most important. 1 year isn't that long, its like riding a bicycle. Once you hop on the bike, most of the basic motoring skills comes back automatically.

1st of all if u want to hv a refresher cse u can attend 1 day defensive riding cse .it is a half day afair.

As for not riding long, 1st u must know ur confident level, whether u are dare to be on the road again. After the cse it should gain ur confident +ride carefully which abt 1 or 2 mths u shld be ok but still need to be very alert.

FYI i just came back from state. Away for 3 yrs . Had been riding S4 for 8mtn since back.

Lastly ,Ride safe and look out for reckless driver & rider.

This is interesting as I am starting to ride after 10yrs of not doing so.

Bought a bike and got my friend to ride it home for me (he is a named rider under my insurance) and I practised for 1 week by riding around my estate to re-familiarize myself with riding. Like a poster above mentioned, it is like riding a bicycle, your body and mind will remember the core actions.

Now I am riding longer distances but I still avoid peak hours or heavy traffic. I also ride by occupying the whole lane, no squeezing or straddling lanes, keeping left where possible and always signaling my intentions when changing lanes or turning. Also, do wear a good helmet, gloves, shoes, jacket and at least jeans to protect your body in case of any mishaps.
