im waiting for my TP test now . my relative is offering me to buy his bike which is Spark 135 , FBB plate . he offered $2000 . but he said i need to pass him the money first then he can overhaul the bike . and he also need the money to down CBR1000 . the thing is , his bike is not in good condition as in physical looks . his speedo is spoiled , the glass frame of the meter is nowhere to be seen , gear lights starting from gear 3 will not light up , the footrest on the left is slanted to the back due to fall , signal button is kinda spoiled a bit . but performance wise , that bike is quite awesome . he changed the shaft, GPR pipe . quite nice . so the problem is , idk if it is worth it or not . the transfer of ownership and everything is not included in the $2000 . and , if i were to get his bike , must he change the spoilt stuff before handing it to me or must i get it fixed and spend MY money myself ? im sorry if im asking stupid question . im really really new to this stuff (:

Generally buyer and seller in this case is like in pasar malam or exquisite showroom. The product is as it is to offer.

Well.. The condition dont really seems good to me :/

Besides you might wanna get something more "pleasing" for your first bike right? :)

Transfer fee and all is usually a seller-buyer thing. If the seller is kind enough he will absorb it. Likewise the seller may even look out for loan for you at a favorable rate to offer you as a bonus.

All in all it includes transfer fee + loan (from a bank, bikeshop, whatever) + insurance (for yourself) for 2nd hand bike :)

oh! And do check out the details for the carry-over of installment. That is a sticky issue itself also. Make sure you've got black and white to state that you are the owner as of effect when you starts to pay the installment. :):)

1. You may wish to check out the market price for the model of equivalent age with similar after-market parts. Then you decide if it is worth buying over the bike. If you have friends with some riding experience and able to gauge the condition of the bike, do ask them to help you to check the condition of the bike.

2. For the condition of the bike, as a buyer, you can negotiate to have the defective items rectify before you buy it. Of course, you have to factor the price when negotiating if you want things to be repair. Else, you have a choice of not to buy the bike.

3. The common practice if you are buying directly from the seller is that you have to pay for the transfer fee charged by LTA. You will have to buy your bike insurance, send it for vehicle inspection (if it's due soon) and pay for road tax (if it's expiring soon).

4. Lastly, do buy season parking if you are staying in a HDB estate.

Bottom line, it will be helpful if you have someone you know that can help you check the condition of the bike, do some bargaining before you commit to buy over the bike.
