Hi fellow riders,

Not sure how many of you know, but anyway it happened to me.

MY IU was

Went to VICOM Yishun, and the technician say must replace the whole IU for $155. Because there is no IU cover, it means the IU warranty is void.

Unconvinced, I called LTA and they directed me to VICOM Sin Ming where the IU cover was replaced at a cost of $5.

Almost wasted $150 due to some 'advice' from a professional at a recommended vehicle inspection centre.:slapforehead:

Anyway, I asked the Sin Ming technician about the IU cover and the reply was that the cover replacement is a rather common issue. Sounds like poor design to me.

But they dont allow us to buy a spare for self installation as the parts are limited.

Anyway, FYI.

Always seek 2nd opinion before parting with your $$$! :)

Cheers.

you mean the plastic transparent cover? lol!

did you tell LTA about this incident?

I emailed LTA and the guy from the IU department called me back. :)

Simply ridiculous for the VICOM guy at Yishun to ask me pay $155 for a new IU when only the cover is gone.

Not the most intelligent 'advice'. :D

I think Mustafa their HR department very strict or high standard or something.

Sometime they talk untill cannot stop. Like no full stop like that. And end up never buy but they still put a smile on their face. But actually i know in their heart confirm curse and swear at me liao.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car

and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car.

Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall,

torque is how far you take the wall with you.

I too encountered a Filipino when I went to get my IU replaced at Vicom Kaki Bukit. But the experience was opposite.

My IU, the LCD display was broken. It had actually come off and was blocking the slot for inserting the cash card.

I was praying that I dont get charged 160$ for it.

The guy without much hoo haa, replaced the IU FOC and the whole affair finished in 15 mins. Really made my day :thumb:

Went there to inspect IU too. IU was spoilt and the guy ask if I want to get a new one or source out for a used one as mine warranty expired. Chose the latter.

They dont sell to you as a separate, spare item & your IU got to be working condition for the cover to be replaced.

When I was at the Sin Min branch, the guy said the IU cover stocks are low.

vehicle inspections are getting more stringent these days with foreign talents around..sigh..

case in point, inspector scrutinised my bike parts (from headlight, tyres to even brakes) with pictures from their database..experienced this the first time although i've been going to the same inspection centre every year!

Hi guy! Same problem here happened to me just this morning on my commute to school. Can you guide me through the procedures on how i can obtain a replacement cover for my IU? My IU is the old fat version and is in perfect working condition. Should i go and try my luck with Yishun Vicom since i live just a stone throw away?
