Thanks for the review. Does it blip the throttle on down shifts for a smoother gear change? I know the more pricey VFR does so due to ride by wire.

Nope. At least not in the "D" mode.

(Waiting for my 1st oil change before I try the "S" mode for a full tank trial.)

The NC700X/D's power/torque is nowhere near the VFR1200 lah. Guess power surges are not an issue for the XD.

Downshifts are almost as smooth as upshifts for the DCT.

Obviously in "D" mode, the shifts occur at closer intervals and lower rpm. So there's actually a discernible "Engine Brake" effect when you slow down from say... 60kmh.

In 5th/6th gear, virtually no "Engine brake" of course.

For people considering buying the NC700 series, DCT should be a big appeal if you are looking for an easy time on the bike.

The low CG and well-balanced design already makes this bike easy for beginners and people returning to biking after a long time. DCT just makes it even more noob-proof. LOL.

Once you had the DCT in your sights, I guess its only a matter of choice between the XD or the Integra. Or if you are willing to wait that long, the CTX700.

Given my weak ankle, I'm done with the whole gear-shifting thing on a bike.

This new DCT 2.0 is just perfect for my commuting needs.

See how lah, hope I can make the next outing and let you guys make your own conclusions with a spin.

I'm curious. Do any of you short-shift that often on the NC700X?

Or do you guys rode the bike as though its a over-sized Super 4 with the rev limited at 5000rpm?

for me personally on the nc, i change gear between 3-3.5k rpm most of the time.. this is almost the same as what i have done on my previous fz6 which is a high rev engine.. so the note on gear change not much diff..

the only diff is say when overtaking.. i rev up to about 4-4.5 and change gear is more than enough.. coz of higher torque, while on a fz i could rev to 5-6k rpm in order to achieve the same speed and then i change gear..

i totally agree on the ease of riding a DCT as i currently also have a auto transmission scooter and it certainly takes away the gear-shifting and you feel more patience on the road with heavy traffic.

just my 0.02 :)

Sounds like you guys are just riding the X as per average commuting profile like what Honda claims most of us do.

The DCT strives to be in 6th gear by around 60+kmh in "D" mode.

Gear changes generally happens around the 2000rpm if you are light on the throttle.

A moderate twist will let the rpm rev up to around 2,500-2,700rpm before the gear shifts.

A full twist of the throttle usually gets the DCT downshifting to a lower gear for more acceleration. But that down-shift lasts just a few seconds as the DCT is usually more keen to go the last gear for better fuel efficiency.

So far, I've only seen max 3,500rpm in 6th gear for 120kmh.

Wizard is right about the "more patience" part.

On the expressway, I find myself contented to hang with the slower moving traffic in the centre lane for most of my commute. Not having to change gears actually changed my riding behaviour... for the better I guess. =p

The torque really shines on long up gradients on the expressway. Where most sedans struggle to maintain their speed, our parallel twin engine just keeps chugging on with still more torque on tap.

200 more km to "S" mode.

for us on manual.. on the 6 gear, anything below 3k rpm (100km) will be choking the bike..

this contribute to why i change gear at 3-3.5k rpm.. after gear shift rpm will drop a bit.. but there is sufficient power to pull away smoothly.

200km very fast one la.. 1 week should be enough? will wait for your review for the S mode.

btw if i am not wrong, DCT and manual got some diff in spocket size or something.. so at the same rpm, the speed we get is also different.

Hey all. Looking to upgrade to a used Honda Silverwing 600 should I get my Class 2 next year. Currently riding Majesty 400. Haha. I'm currently 20yrs old, just graduated from Diploma.

May I just know what's the reason why BoonSiew don't bring in the NC700S DCT version?? I sat on a NC700X and my 1.68m frame struggles to have my feet flat on the ground. The NC700S being the street version feels less cumbersome and seems more agile than the Adventure version of the NC700X.

I really love the dummy fuel tank storage. I think it makes a lot of sense. That's the reason why I probably won't be going for the CTX700 (cruiser style NC700) as the fuel tank is not under the pillion seat, but where it usually is located. Thus it will lose the really useful dummy tank storage, in favor for only a small glove compartment.

Although the NC700S doesn't have road presence parked with CBF150 and FZ150i, it makes good practical sense as an everyday ride as it's narrow enough to squeeze between traffic and all (Not that our roads / parking spaces are getting larger by the day)......

So the NC700S DCT ABS model is only available via parallel imports from Japan??

Yer, the sprocket is smaller for the DCT with a slightly shorter chain link too.

170kph is fast enough =D Majesty 400 can top 160kph, but at 155kph, the whole scooter vibrating.... =(

Comfy to cruise at 150kph no problems for Majesty 400. Then again, the NC-range ain't about top speed and all. It's just about all-day-everyday ease of ride. I'm just disappointed why don't have any NC700S DCT ABS locally....

I think boonsiew has the DCT, just need to order i think... cox one (or a few?) of our guys here have boonsiew DCT model, but going for loois parallel import is alright too
