Carlube had 800km plus reaching 900km soon. so far i still think it holding up pretty good at this stage. maybe i should used Motul 300V so i can compare? hahaha... but who care about Motul 300V when i have a litre bottle of Delvac MX waiting for my next oil change :p

Not bad - Motul 5100 on my bike lasts less than 700km before I start evaporating oil. Or maybe the Motul semi synth blend has just a very low heat tolerance.

Might be -okay- for stock configs but tuned air cooled = ahem.

i agreed. my bike is totally stock and i quite a gentle rider consider my average speed is only 90km/h. maybe it time to crank up to 100km/h? a check with friends with same bike and they are going from 100-140km/h. although my wifey might not be happy to know i am travelling above road speed limit :p but hey, yamaha spark 135 speedometer is well known to be inaccurate. hahaha... technically i am still within the speed limit. hahaha...

just spoke with a colleague yesterday. he is riding a Yamaha RXK. he got the bike in 1987. a good 24years old bike with just an oil change per year!!! of course he top up 2T regularly. he average 30-40km almost daily. i assume that bike have at least 250,000km under it belt. he told me his engine is still doing fine. the only different he notice is slower pick up and lower top speed compare to the good old days. other then that, it was still smooth with no overhual before. infact, he is more worry about other part falling apart first then the engine failing. that the reason he decide not to renew his COE in 2013.

carlube reached 900km plus and beginning to feel rough. just now backside itchy so change it out at 1075km with Delvac MX. used oil still feel slick and thick so most likely it is good to go further. but guess my urge of joining the HDEO club got the better of me.

Carlube is rated at SG which is way outdated rating so i think my bike deserve something better. Delvac MX is CI-4/SL rated. much more advance then carlube. will report back as distance go by. guess it time for me to do something for mother earth as well as my wallet and extend the OCI :)

Chex 9000 has the lastest API SM rating. although SM rated, it is only CF-4 for commercial vehical. API commercial vehical rating is much more demanding so it often able to meet the highest service vehical rating. therefore HDEO often have better protection package.

reason CI-4 or CI-4 plus can't meet the SM rating is because of the higher then allow Zinc and phosphorus which might affect catalytic converter but is desireable for motorcycle engine. hence, most motorcycle oil like Motul, Amsoil etc is often only SL rated. correct me if i am wrong for API rating as it can get confusing.

anymore taken for the HDEO club? :p

Well. http://www.shell.com/home/Framework?siteId=rotella-en&FC2=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/products/zzz_lhn.html&FC3=/rotella-en/html/iwgen/products/t6_detail.html

CJ-4(horror horror, the grade which might be unsuitable for bikes wasn't it?), CI-4, CI-4+, CH-4, SM, SL, SH, and and and, wait for it...

*edited : yea, maybe if it's just CI-4+ and CI-4, it won't be SM, cuz CJ-4 is for lower ash/zddp ain't it, therefore the SJ which goes together with CJ-4*

JASO MA

So i guess it's perfectly suitable after all. and it's a full-syn.

Too bad we don't have that locally.

Anyway, extra thoughts. D'yall suppose that if it meets CJ-4 then, that it might be JASO MA?

As far as I know, main thing about JASO MA is ash

true. but at least you can change your oil regularly which i think is kind of fun. hahaha...

i guess my next oil will be Shell Rimula R3X. heard nothing but good review on this oil. further more it just cost RM14-15. alot of malaysia bikers are using this oil. it is Allison C-4 approved so should be safe for wet clutch.

Saw Shell Rimula R3X 4l package at Giant selling $44

Anyone using it now?

The link above tells thats the oil is 40 weight. I am yet to see a HDEO on the internet with 50 weight. Any reason why? How come trucks can run with 40 weight while my Pulsar 180 CC bike needs 50 weight :faint:

hehe.. so far so good.

i not so much of how the oil "feel" on my bike type but more on technical side. so far i have used 7 different brand on my bike and most of them "feel" pretty much the same except chex 9000 which is a thicker oil and the engine have less vibration on it. other then that, oil tend to feel rough after running for certain distance so it about which one can give me a longer lasting smooth "feel". maybe my butt is too meaty to feel much? haha... other then that as we don't have easy access to UOA, i depend on report from oversea forums to learn more about certain type of oil.

i also depend on people with sensitive butt here to tell me how each oil feel. haha...

you are right. only CJ-4 rated oil can be approved for JASO MA.

yet it is the CI-4+ or CI-4 might be more suitable for motorcycle due to it high ZDDP. furhter more, some UOA suggest CI is more shear resistant then CJ.

no matter what is the rating, as long as it does not contain excess or unsuitable FM, it is suitable for bike use. like Redline, Motul, Amsoil motorbike oil all contain moly but still suitable for wet clutch.

yes yes!!! full ester oil. good good oil for your beloved bike!!!

so which shop sell REDLINE oil for our bike & price?

i not sure. i have never see a shop selling redline oil so far. i only know Mxtradings carry it. so you might have to DIY or pay a small sum to your motortiam for the oil change.

30,000km review on chex 9000.

Still runs "like newly overhauled", no repairs need to be done on engine. Still feels like engine is capable of being pushed faster, fuel economy remains 40+km/l at 100kph. Recently leaned down the carb fuel-air mixture a bit for quieter running and since I know Chex 9000 has a very high flash point and being a synthetic, it dissipates heat faster than mineral oils, I have no worries at all running at a higher engine temperature.

Oil consumption is practically nil. Have not checked oil levels in over 6 months.

Pretty good record for an ancient rust bucket.

imho

I had seen the Chex oil being used in high performance machines like my frenz cbr600 which after one track session, you really can feel the roughness of the gearbox regardless of Honda being known for its smooth gearboxes

pulsar ask for 50wt oil? maybe they have loose clearance. you can get 20W50 HDEO from most petrol sation.

Yupp. Pulsar needs 20W50 according to the manual. There is only an Esso petrol bunk near my house. They have Mobil Delvac MX which is believe is 40 weight. I never fill fuel in Singapore so dont know what they have..

How about Petronas in JB? Anybody know what kind of oils they stock?. May be this time when I go to top up, I will have look at what they have got.
