Helmet at my bike's back, locked near exhaust screen mysteriously melted, cracked

Riding sp,

my spare helmet lock behind my back mysteriously melted with many dots at one circular spot of the screen, and huge crack can be seen surrounded that spot. its also very dirty spilled with black oil. My guess is the screen accidentally block my exhaust while riding, cause i heard a quite loud CHIM sound while picking up on an empty road just now.

it was my first helmet, just threw it away.. as i realise its very hard to wash away that spot and im sick of people asking if i had an accident when they see the cracks.. (i never had one...)

anyway, the important thing is, atm i checked my bike. apparently still seems fine, but on the inside, will my bike be fine? anything i must check

not recommended to lock ur helmet at the tail of ur bike while riding. i rmb someone posted previously that his helmet got stuck in between the tail of the bike and rear tyre

doesn't sound like a mystery imo. put a helmet near a very hot exhaust pipe = fun ensues. that's how i burnt a small part of my visor after just a few seconds of it touching my exhaust. it burnt right thru the helmet sling bag i was keeping the helmet in.

With sp tailboard so near to the wheel, it is very dangerous to hang it by the side, well what I did was let the helmet sit on the pillion seat

Never ride with a helmet by the side.

Right side: Exhaust will melt the plastic shell of the helmet. Once melted, the safety of the helmet is compromised. Not to mention the ugly marks the melted plastic will leave on the exhaust.

Left side: Even more dangerous. Your helmet strap, or helmet bag's sling can come loose and tangle up in your chains, causing an accident.

If you need to transport a helmet:

1) Get a box.

2) Carry it on your back.

3) Use netting and secure it to your tank or pillion seat.

2) Carry it on your back.

you wouldn't want such a huge and hard object on your back when you met with an accident and landed on your back.

Before putting a helmet on the side of your bike while riding, best check if the straps will be dangling close to your wheel or chain.

And avoid lane splitting while having a helmet at your side.

well, you definitely going to hurt badly when you meet an accident be it with or without the helmet on your back. unless you wear full protection gear which can at least minimize your injuries.

Even with full protection, it is still a bad idea to carry a big and hard object near your spine.

you not supposed to dangle the helmet on the side panel. secure it to pillion seat instead.

This is one of those threads that reminds me of a Rider checking his fuel in his tank in the night, with light of a lighter, after a hot 'steamy ride'.

Resulted in some singed hairs and one eye no eyebrows for the chap.
