Carrying large items - What's the Law (surely Singapore must have one!)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I wish to carry a paramotor on a bike which I will purchase soon (thinking of the ST1100).

The paramotor is 1 meter in length. Is there any restriction on what can be carried (size wise) on a motorcycle in singapore?

Obviously I would get a proper rack made so that it was safe.

i've seen bikes carry oversize stuff before..but pls ensure all is secured tightly, n dun squeeze in between cars.

in addtion, to prevent any "stompming"...i will advice tat u cover it with a cloth or smthing...:)..it will be best if u can transport it at night..dun attract unwanted attention.

Thanks for the replies.

I have asked the LTA, but they have not bothered to reply :-(.

Be great to get my hands on the actual regulations, if anyone knows where they would be...

yeah..tie red flag for any long/bulky items that protrude from your vehicle...obviousley long stuff should be ok..

tall and high stuff...threre are height limits...wide stuff...if bigger than the lane width there are regulations about it..all items shoud be securely tied up...overweight is another issue..if items exceed bike maximum laden weight...accidents means sticky problem...imho..

the red flag requirements are very ancient...dont know still in force....but have seen vehicles doing it with oversize stuff

From my understanding

And object protruding out of ur vehicle

Need to have a red flag to warn other road user

But tat is for vehicle or lorry

Motorcycle I assume should be the same

to add, regardless of whether the "red flag" is necessary or not. err of the safe side, better have it to warn others.

Interesting thread. I want to fabricate rack to ferry my bicycle to local trail. Obviously the bicycle will be protruding out of my bike. A little knowledge on the regulation will be useful as well. Maybe I will just use red flag and maybe some high vis strap as a warning first.

Finally got a reply from the LTA (asked how box a box can be on the back of a bike) :

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 20121205-0920

We refer to your email of 05 December 2012.

We have no objection to the installation of tail box on the rear of a motor cycle so long as it does not adversely affect vehicle safety or pose as a danger to other road users. The tail box shall be installed in accordance with the vehicle manufacturer's recommendation and be securely fastened at the rear of the motor cycle. No part of the tail box shall project beyond the body of the vehicle, obstruct the view of the rider or pose danger to other road users.

Then it's going to be a green light. No need to worry
