I am looking for a quality protective riding jacket.. I cant decide between a airbag jacket OR a high armored riding jacket like RS taichi

Airbag jacket (motoair) those with a airbag in the jacket and will fill up if you are 'sent flying'. Certain amount of force is needed to activate the airbag so if you forget to unclip yourself from the bike you wont look like a pufferfish when you get off. The airbag will cover your entire upper body except your arms, the airbag jackets are equipped with CE protectos at the elbow and shoulder

High armored riding jacket like RS taichi, equipped with CE hard protectors at the elbows, shoulders, chest and back.

Price factor aside. I want to get as many opinions as possible. (:

Well...

Here's my take... having owned both. Recently in the mist of Upgrading my Personal Riding Protection Gear. IMHO, there's no indicative level of Armor you could wear while riding. Each to their own.

I recently up graded all my gear mainly because of a couple of incidents/near miss/accidents *Case Study* which causes me to up grade...

I'll list what I use to have and what I'm have upgraded to...

My Ex_Touring Gear Jacket & Upper Torso Protection Gear.

~ Komine Armor Jacket JK-003 ; (C/W Elbow (Hard), Shoulder (Hard) & Back (Soft) CE approved Armor ).

(+) Added Komine Chest Guard & Komine Kidney Guard.

~ Komine Back SK-456 Back Proctor (C/W Kidney Belt)

Current Touring Gear

~ Motoair Jacket

~ Knox Chest Guard.

~ Knox Aegis Back Protector

*Looking at replacing the Motoair Jacket's Shoulder & Eblow with Knox' Gear too...

Why had I done so... Again it's up to personal understanding, Cost$ & needs.

I chosen the Airbag upgrade is mainly because it protects my neck, chest & back area should I be thrown *off my bike... the Airbag is there to cushion the fall of impact.

The Chest protector and Back protector is there as a primary protection for me should there be any I come into contact with any foreign object while I'm on the bike...

Don't get me wrong.. .I have no affiliation to Motoair nor the Knox local suppliers... I'm just a Biker who is very happy with their products and service level...

There an't enought space here to text down my personal views and the different LIVE Case studies to have me up grade my gear...

I nearly died last year on my way to Ranong Thailand and walk away with me having shivering uncontrollably till I went to bed... (Out of Fear).

Drop me a PM and I'll be more than Glad to meet up and show you my gear & share with you my personal views...

*IMHO, always spend at least 10% of the cost of your bike on your self... before the BIKE!

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply! so you wear an extra chest and back armor under the motoair jacket? I am leaning towards motoair jackets because of people that were wearing the jacket and walked away from the accident almost injury-free. One guy in the states was involve in an accident at high speed because a car swerve into his lane on a highway. He only injured his thumb (:.

There is a saying, dress for,the fall, not for the ride. Airbag jacket is the best of course and if your pocket is deep, Daniese has the wireless model with accelerometer. I learnt the slightly hard way, knee guards are good to have too. Also watch out for the invicible syndrome where ppl tend to take more risk when they ride just cause they have all the good proper riding gears

Yes... Very true and well said.

But you'll be surprise how much a Motoair Jacket cost if you know whose door to KNOCK! You'll fall off your SOCKS!

Interesting, is it a "one time use" jacket? In other words when the bag deploys can be replaced or jacket is spoiled?

The CO2 Cartridge is replaceable and the jacket can be repack.. . IMHO, should a Jacket is damaged in a Accident or fall... it has done it's job and I'll would replace it.. as the cost of the Jacket is nothing well compared to one's well being....

Hi stoner, I'm also using an airbag jacket and I do feel protected... I like yr theory on additional extra chest and back armor. However, from my understanding, when airbag is fully inflated, its suppose to fit or wrap nicely around the torso. with the extra armor, the jacket may not fit properly with fully inflated...

My jacket is slightly bigger to accommodate the Chest and Back armor... so far so good...

Sad to say, recently i just visited Mashgate at Wooldands, shocked to know that they had withdraw the airbag jacket bussiness quite some time back.

Althought my airbag jacket need to be service and change airbag systerm (there is a leakage after testing), they still managed to find some remain stock to repalce the parts without charges. Always provide friendly and good service as usual.

Wish them all the best in their forklift bussiness.

Got no idea in future where to service or get the parts.......
