My system is running on AMD 3000. Currently have a Patriot PC3200 512MB on channel A of my ram slot.

was thinking of buying another Patriot PC3200 512MB ram recently... but found out that most shops at SLS do not have that anymore.. only choice i have is kingston PC3200 or COSAIR..

I'm not exactly good at this, so i was wondering, will my system have some instabilitly problem if i run two different brands (but same speed) of ram for dual channel memory?

no there won't be any system instability..

but pls make sure that the ram ur buying is compatible for use wit ur system..

as for the dual channel memory..

there's not much significant increase in performance..

rather you go buy a 1gig ram and slot it in the available slot..

if unsure, take out the ram or whatsoever you wanna buy then go down to sim lim and get the 2nd piece to partner with the 1st, also can ask more things with the item in hand (:

stil remembered the 1st time i got my diy com, then wanna upgrade another 512ram in then I'm new to it then took me 30 mins of pushing it in then locking the sides cuz I was afraid my strength would break the board..lol the 30 mins is cuz I got fed up then i just pushed it in all the way and heck it.. :cheeky:

Most likely if you are able to slot in the 1GB DDR RAM, it'll work... If I'm not wrong it should be 184 pins & 1 notch so as to fit in your com.

Don't have to worry abt pairing it with your old RAM unless you worry abt getting the correct clock rate which you can fully utilise for multimedia or gaming.

Hmm .. how do you know what kind of RAM are you using? Other than manually taking it out?

I have one program that does that:

System Information Tool v1.66

It can collect information about the RAM sticks that are installed into your computer.

Moreover, when you decide to buy RAM (ensuring that it's an acceptable RAM for your system), make sure that it comes with some sort of warranty or one-on-one exchange policy. If it doesn't, make sure the shop does so.

My PC is a Pentium 4, 2.4Ghz using a 256MB RAM

Today I bought a 1GB RAM of the same brand "Kingston" and install into the slot to replace the original 256MB RAM because mine is not set for dual channel.

It works fine for all purpose like surfing the Internet, Microsoft Office, Excel, opening picture/photos, etc; but when my children try to play Mablesea, Audition, etc; games, I get this error message of: " ialmrnt5 of RAM driver has stop working normally ".

When I remove the 1GB RAM and replace it with the original 256MB RAM it works again without any problem when playing games or surfing the Internet.

Can someone please tell me what has gone wrong?

Thank you very much.

I found this solution on the Internet when I search the problem on Google, should I follow the instruction and install the driver?

Error: "The ialmrnt5 display driver has stopped working normally. Save your work and reboot the system to restore full display functionality. The next time you reboot the machine a dialog will be displayed giving you a chance to upload data about this failure to Microsoft."

Error: "The graphics adapter in this system experienced an internal error. Please contact your graphics adapter manufacturer for technical support. The application will now terminate."

Blue screen appears with STOP error 0x000000EA referencing the ialmrnt5 display driver file.

Solution:

Use the latest Intel® graphics driver to correct this issue. Refer to the driver README file for installation instructions as needed.

Oh, nevermind.

From some tech forum, this particular problem "ialmrnt5" seems to be quite a problem when playing with games such as "SIMS" too. I think it is not so easy to solve because some foriegn users who are much much more tech savvy are also facing this and cannot do much to solve it.

I am going back to my 256MB RAM.

Thanks for the help

hi,

my laptop is now running on 736mb of RAM.

I was wondering if there'd be a visible increase in performance if i were to up it to 2GB?

There will be difference in opening up application and in multi-tasking.

BTW, Beyond 1GB, you won't see much diff in performance for common applications. But if you're doing apps that are memory intensive (photo editting, av decoding, Photoshop), more RAM will have a visible boost in perf..

The difference varies from computer to computer, as well as individual to individual, I might add.

If for example prior to the RAM top-up you know that your computer is already "gasping for air" due to lack of memory, the RAM upgrade should solve this situation.

But for an individual with lots of RAM and a computer that is already running fine, upping the RAM simply means he can now ready his computer to run more applications (in the background, of course), without crippling the computer's speed.

These 2 comparisons assume that both are using computers with the same specs - processor speed, bus speed, RAM types (eg SDRAM, DDR, and their associated speed in MHz).
