400 plus should be the coil... But do u have difficulty in starting the bike from the starter? Cos if coil kaput means no electrical start for u...

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...

One mode of coil failure is a total loss of ignition... meaning no firing of the spark plug. This mode of failure is rare.. have only come across 2 such cases so far.

The other more common failure mode is the inability of the coil to produce enough power to charge the battery when the engine is running. When this happens.. the bike's spark ignition and lights are draining the battery... to a point the engine will stop coz there is no more spark and no more lights.

Normal battery voltage should be about 12.5 to 13 volts... at rest. If the coils and the charging system is OK.. the battery reading with the engine at idle should be close to 14 volts. If upon holding the revs up... the voltage drops by 0.5 volts or so... the rectifier is working fine.

The chance of a rectifier failure is as good as zero, 99% of the time its the coil burnt.

Those who like to change oil once every few months... the chances of the coil being burnt is high. The coils are cooled by the engine oil.

Its your bike.. you decide what you want to do.
