Hi, to update on my previous posts, I have overcome my fear & problems on all the courses except pylon slalom which I still have intermittent problems

1. I kick up to second gear, close throttle and clutch in before the white line
2. Pass the white line and between the 1st & 2nd cone then slowly release clutch
3. From 2nd to 3rd cone is the critical part when I feel my speed slowing down and I try to throttle up
4. I will encounter problems passing between the 3rd and 4th cone, sometimes the bike stall if I pedal too hard, sometimes I brush against the 4th cone when turning out

One instructor taught me another method, speed up to 2nd gear before entering white line, close throttle and let it engine brake until 3rd cone and throttle up as I pass between 3rd and 4th cone, it seems to work if I do it correctly and quickly before entering the white line, I could get below 6 seconds but if I speed up too fast before the white line and need to brake, the problem begins there..

But I would appreciate guidance from the experienced riders here thanks.

Hi Lowreen!

Honestly I cannot remember where the lines are or what anymore. But your technique does not seem to be serving much use to you based on what you are saying. From what I’m reading, you only release your clutch in between the 1st & 2nd cone, and you only throttle from 2nd-3rd cone, which is way too late already.

you should be throttling (from what i was taught by instructors), before you go in for the lean in between cones (the ‘straight’-ish parts where you are beside the cone).

I personally like to open throttle VERY VERY slightly (like 5-10% kind) throughout the whole course and only close throttle/ tap my rear brake if I feel like I’m going too fast. I also remember throttling even before I reach the 1st cone.

after rereading your post, it sounds like you might still be unconsciously afraid of slalom, since you don’t seem to be opening your throttle a lot?

all the best for future lessons!

I'm at Prac 7 now and have the RR option, but it says that I have to book RC first. 🤨
Booked RC and it still shows the same msg.

stalom pylon go gear 2 before reaching cone, eyes look far best at end of the cone, no front brake and try no rear brake if possible..i always practice engage gear already at the same time throttle and released clutch together...

Hi

I think if you are on Prac 7, you can't unlock RR unless you have pass Prac 7.

RR should have been unlocked when u cleared Prac 6 (road test route) leh.... have u managed to book a night lesson for Prac 5-7? if u havent maybe can try booking a night timeslot for your next Prac 7 and see if RR will be unlocked, since 1x night road lesson is compulsory. budden again best is to ask an instructor la 😅

Now got prac 8 already. No more prac 3.2

prac 3.2 becomes prac 4. Assessment becomes prac 5. 😅 but yes, you are right, RR unlock after he has cleared prac 7 (road test route) 😁.

Hi all, I booked double RC slots this CNY week to practice on pylon slalom until I can clock 4.9 ~ 5.4 seconds for slalom. I realized I still have some problems with plank. Has anybody noticed there are 2 yellow strips at the starting and end of the plank strip? One of the instructors told me if the wheel touches the yellow line and exiting the plank equals immediate failure?

Yeah, lesson 3.2 become lesson 4, then all increase by 1.

Any tips for U-turn, next lesson is final assessment but still feel that my U-turn is very weak.

For u-turn what i did was lean outwards, ie. to my left. Most impt thing is once the bike moves off, immediately look far and at the centre of the lane that u are turning into

agreed on look far and the lane/location you wan to turn into..

throttle wise, just feel about how much speed you need to put into it.

Nowadays is it the same need gear 2 for u-turning?

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Now can do U-turn in gear 1 or 2, depending on situation. First few riders probably turn in gear 1, then the last few riders might turn in gear 2.

1. You must not look down to your right when you perform the u-turn.

2. You are allowed to maintain half clutch during u-turns so use this to manage your speed. Especially in 1st gear. Never fully release your clutch in first gear when turning because it always jerks the bike. Always.

3. Do not lean into the u-turn like those sports bike in circuits... those position are for high speed turns where you are trying to keep the bike from straightening up. Here you are doing a slow u-turn

Lastly, RELAX those arms. They actually need to be relax to be able to turn the handles... so yes relax and let them turn the handle bar.

in summary, look where you wanna go, half clutch, throttle up, maintain half clutch, relax arms, turn and throttle up more while maintaining half clutch. Need more speed? Just throttle more while maintaining the half clutch. Don’t release it. Before you need it turn is done. Go 2nd gear and now head to slope to practice more half clutch biting point 😂😂😂.

You can prob do u-turn 2nd gear if you are already moving and there is no traffic. From a dead stop it’s always good to just keep to 1st gear. Don’t try to change gear during the u-turn... 99% chance sure bwang 😂😂😂

Any tips for Lesson 8? Managed to pass lesson 7 after 3 tries and now I am anxious for lesson 8. What can I expect for this lesson, and what to do/avoid?

Do your CR and RR to be very familiar with your route and build confidence. Ask the instructors to look at you when you are doing the circuits to spot your mistake.

During the mock test. Just forget that it’s a test and just ride it as you would during your CR and RR just as you practice. If they catch you on the mistakes that you make then it’s really a mistake you’re not aware and should improve before the actual test 😂😂

Hi all, just wanted to say thanks for all the support and tips. 😁 Managed to pass my 2b ytd. About 51 ppl took the test but left with 25 ppl in the end. Not bad with 50% passing rate.
