Finally, I'm back at Ubi to do my 2A after getting my 2B license two years ago. The instructor still the same. Funny as usual. Within these two years, I have many close call to a bad accident. Where multiple times the driver fail to check blind spot. Not your fault but have to be aware and horn to save my own ass. Time for a retraining on the procedure now :)

(PS: pass my 2A lesson 1 on first try)

Attended my first lesson 2. I need some help from the seniors here on the following.

As part of lesson 2, we need to filter right immediately after the right bend near the entrance of the plank. However, before the bend, I saw a row of car already queuing in the right lane. The first bike filtered right into a gap between the cars. I'm the 2nd bike, no gap to filter in. So went ahead to the front all the cars and filtered right and stop in front. I don't think I did the right thing. I was lucky because the front car couldn't turn right due to on coming traffic. What would you do if you are in this situation?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Today just went for prac 4 at CDC. In fact. I'm awaiting my results. Confirm fail one la. I kept falling off the plank.

Tips for staying on the plank guys?

Sent from my iPhone 6 using Tapatalk

The way that works for me is

1. Position bike straight to aim for the plank

2. Trottle to get up the plank and close trottle once on plank

3. Grip your thighs close to the bike

4. Look far ahead and not down on the plank

5. Use rear brake to regulate speed if going to fast

6. If losing power trottle slighly

Hope this helps. There are people who uses the half clutch method instead. Just have to find one that you are comfortable with.

I wld stop close to the ctr line with my right signal on at abt before the last car stn doing their 3 pt turn. Keep your head at the chk bk right posn throughout your time there. Once there is a gap & any driving instructor from the station or behind waves you on, filter to the right. Otherwise wait there.... doing so w/o any driving instructor waving you on wld be deemed as not giving way to traffic with right of way.

I overheard an instructor at the plank shouting to 1 guy during my 1 of my CRs that he changed lane too late (just before the right turn leading to the traffic lights & ramp) & thats IF.

jbdoggy, thanks for the tip. Especially the immediate failure part. I can better anticipate the situation and prepare to stop when I see a car queue on the right again

Hi guys! i am a new learner at CDC, got my pdl already, any advise on how should i do my practical lesson booking. Like for each practical how many lessons should i book, as the waiting time is to book each practical is seriously long and i am also working.

Posted

Hi @NewbieRider I'm new too. What I understand is that for pracs you should leave 2x working days in between booking of lessons. Then when if you do pass on the first lesson, you can cancel your next lesson.

Example:

1. Book prac 1 on 28/09/15 and prac 1 on 1/10/15

2. Pass prac 1, in time to cancel prac 1 on 1/10/15

3. Fail prac 1, continue to prac 1 on 1/10/15

I can feel your pain cus I'm also working. So its always night classes for me and I am only free on 1/3/5 + weekends... end up i have to book 3 working days apart if I get a Monday prac lol

Finally passed my lesson 4 after 3 tries.

I got a very noob question to ask. Can i book circuit revision instead of lesson 5 for practice before i go for my lesson 5? It seems like circuit revision are way cheaper than lesson 5. Not sure if it's allowed.

The purpose of the circuit revision is for you to practice and practice before going for your L5. I recommend going for at least 2 CR before your L5.

It's good to also book a CR directly before your L5 as your muscle memory will be fresh from the previous practice.

Yeah I just did that. Thanks darkredmica. Please enlighten me on how lesson 5 works.

Do we have only one chance to do all those obstacles or we go as many times as we are able to?

Lesson 5 is like any normal practical, just that u take your number go for 1 round warmup and get ready to do everything once. have to be below 12 points i think to pass. just did my prac 5 today and failed. fell off the plank if not pass already :( only accumulated 4 points sigh!!!

every station got instructor to take time and check for your mistakes!

Yes. Many do it this way for the said reason. But for some funny reason or other it didnt work for me! Always ended up performing badly later. Maybe fatigue.... i dunno. What worked for me however was if i did the CR the evening before L5 or L8, hv a good sleep & come fresh the next morning.

So if anyone's like me, this is another way to do CR in preparation for L5 or L8. Just do whatever that works for you.

One day chiong 3.... you will definitely sleep well that night. I chionged 2 in a row on sat afternoon to prepare for mon morning L8 & totally KOed at 1030pm that nite!

Easiest way to learn the plank is clutch in method. (thanks @darkredmica, for sharing that method with me!). Start normally, once 2 wheels on the plank, throttle off & clutch in & let the bike roll to the end. Control speed with rear brake play.

Once you are used to staying on the plank, try front wheel up on the plank, close throttle & clutch in & do as above. This method can just abt break 8 secs albeit hv to really wrestle with the bike towards the last bit.

Want to go even further.... try the half clutch method. Close throttle but leave clutch at biting point. The clutch at biting point is enough to pull you along w/o any throttle input. Just play with rear brake to control speed.

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie and just started my 1st practical Lesson 1 at CDC yesterday, and I did not clear. The instructor's comment was - I'm weak and too stiff, need to improve. I was wondering if any seniors here have tips on the following:

- I was struggling to put the bike on the main stand, I did put my body close to the bike but it took a lot of lifting strength to pull it up to main stand. Now my back is aching, am I doing it correctly or am I supposed to use my body weight and then pull the bike back and up, while my right foot is pressing the main stand on the road?

- My braking wasn't good, I stop too early before the line where I'm supposed to stop. I guess I'm struggling to use front and rear brakes followed by clutch in and changing from 3rd to Neutral gear when I stop. Question is - can I be on 1st gear when I stop or must I be on Neutral gear?

Last question is more pertaining to booking. Like many others I'm working and hence I can only do evening lessons or weekends. However, every time I try to book I can hardly find any slots available. Now my next lesson is 21st Oct almost 2 weeks away. Anyone has any tips for lesson booking? At the rate which I'm going I think it'll be a long time before I can get my class 2b.

Not a senior but if it helps:

- yes, body weight, pull while stepping. If the technique is applied correctly you don't have to use much strength actually; that's when you know you've done it right.

- from what I know when I was at ssdc years ago, you should always be in first gear when you stop. Otherwise can be said once you get your license. Not sure if it's like this now cus my 1st Prac 1 is next Monday haha as for braking I can only say you're overbraking so just go easy on the brakes and apply gradually.

- and yes I want to know this too!

I've night classes on Tues and Thursdays so I can only do 1/3/5 or weekends. And since my lesson is next Monday I could only book Friday to meet the 2 working days requirement for cancellation.

Question is.

If I book Monday and Wednesday. When I pass Monday class would I be able to cancel the Wednesday class?

Thanks in advance!

1. To put you bike back on mainstand, use your right leg to step on the mainstand lever. Your right hand should be holding the metal beam near the rear wheel and your left hand on the left handlebar (assuming you're on the left side of the bike). Next, you pull the beam in your right hand upwards and you pull the handle bar in your left hand backwards. Do this in one motion.

2. It's normal to brake too early or too late in our first try. And of course our body is stiff because we're newbie and we don't really trust the two wheeled beast in our first few practicals. That's why we are there to learn and the instructors are there to teach. You'll get the hang of it in a while. It needs practice to perfect it. Anyway you should ALWAYS down gear to gear 1 at ANY TIME when you're stopping. Don't go neutral unless you're going to dismount the bike.

3. I used to have the same problem when booking for practicals. The slots are limited. But from what i learn on this forum, you have to always check the CDC portal every hour to see if anyone cancelled their slots during that time. And always try to book your practicals two days apart so you can cancel them if you have passed on that day. We are given 18 cancellations so put it to good use.

Hope this helps. I'm sure our senior forum members here are able to give you more tips if you ask.

Sure you can cancel them. I've tried before although it's not literally 48 hours apart.

I passed my lesson on friday night and i still can cancel the lesson i booked on sunday morning.

Now i got a question. Does anyone know of a link with crank course tutorial?

I have my prac 5 this saturday but when i go for my CR, i realize my crank course is still inconsistent. Tried working on it a few times but still poor at it.

wah suey failed twice prac 1 already, guess i belong to the slow learner type!

You think you're slow because other people can learn faster, I'd assume? Now that, I think is an unhealthy mindset to have.
