Took my Lesson 5 today and got:

1. FORWARD DRIVING

a. Fail to keep left (road hogging) - 6 points

b. Fail to change to appropriate gear before turning / stopping - 4 points

c. Unnecessary stopping - 2 points

2. SAFETY-CHECK

a. Fail to check blind spot - 4 points (Originally there are only 3 boxes for this, but it seems the instructors added 2 more boxes for it since I failed to check blind spot. So, 4 points x 5)

b. Improper checking of blind spot - 2 points

3. SIGNALLING

a. Fail to signal / Give wrong signal - 4 points (Again, originally there are only 3 boxes for this, but it seems the instructors added 1 more box for it since I failed to signal? So, 4 points x 4)

4. IMMEDIATE FAILURE

a. Just at the start point, moving off when the instructor have not waved/called me out yet. -.-

SUMMARY

1. FORWARD DRIVING

1a. Fail to keep left (road hogging) - Does this mean that in the circuit, throughout the test, you must always stay in the left lane and keep left?

1b. Fail to change to appropriate gear before turning / stopping - I think I have been doing too much of the courses that I forgot to apply all that has been taught in Lesson 1 and Lesson 2. :(

1c. Unnecessary stopping - How can I eliminate this? Someone tell, where not to stop unnecessarily?

2. SAFETY-CHECK

there are 2 types of safety checks - check back (safety check) and blind spot check. what is the difference? simple to remember - blind spot check when you are moving, check back when you are not moving and about to move off. they are very particular about these checks. each time you do wrong 2 points. if you do 10 wrong during your tp 20 points easily!

which direction to do the check back and blind spot check?

for blind spot check it is easy - same direction as your turn or lane change or bend. e.g if you are turning left, blind spot check to the left, if you are changing lane to the right, blind spot check to the right.

for 'check back' it is almost always to the right. before moving off EVERY TIME YOU STOP you must check back to the right. if you stop and inch forward 50 times, you must check back 50 times every time you start to inch forward.

there only time you do check back to the left is when you are going to turn left from stationary (e.g. at the first main left turn stop line and at the traffic light if you had stopped for a red light). but remember, you must do right check back AND left check back in these situations.

if you reach traffic light for left turn and it is green, you turn without stopping (remember to do blind spot check to the left). if you reach traffic light junction for right turn and it is green, you must monitor for traffic from the front and stop if you have to. remember, if you didn't stop due to clear traffic, do a blind spot check to the right and if you did stop due to traffic, do a check back to the right and a blind spot check just as you turn right.

hope this helps.

2a. Fail to check blind spot - I think I failed to look out for cars/bikes in the opposite lane when lane changing as mentioned here.

2b. Improper checking of blind spot - As mentioned above, blind spot check is "same direction as your turn or lane change or bend. e.g if you are turning left, blind spot check to the left, if you are changing lane to the right, blind spot check to the right."

Basically, blind spot check is, for example, if you're turning left, you blind spot check by looking over your left shoulder before the bend, isn't it? Is blind spot check also, when you are turning left and negotiating the bend, you look over your left shoulder while you are turning? For those who already progressed, please, do correct me if I'm wrong.

Try to follow the map they give, mostly keep left.

Maybe its at the junction after the crank? u stop and check for traffic when there is non? or you give way line waited but no cars?

blindspot you check before you turn.

The Final Lesson...

So, i've tried my best to share my experiences and guide anyone who was willing to read for the CDC 2B course. I have come to learn through this few months that the course layout is different in CDC compared to the other school (e.g. sequence and path for figure 8 and crank).

I intend to read through my posts and correct my errors - i know i have made some mistakes and put them down as the correct procedure.

So i took and failed my TP once. Will be trying again (I hope). But i can share my experience and advice from what I went through - the final lesson (LOL)

When you book TP you will book for 7.15 am warm up and then 8.30 for the actual test. You MAY skip the warm up but must arrive by 7.45 to ensure you don't miss anything.

There will be a list of testees on the board. you check your bib number and collect your 'on test' bib.

you will be given a chance to warm up - in theory one round of the circuit but those who go out quickly might be able to squeeze in a second round.

You will be divided into groups of 5 according to numbers. lower to higher. foreigners get lower numbers followed by older to younger. so if you are old like me you get a low number (i was number 7). if you are in your mid twenties you will likely be around number 25 to 30 and if you are 19 you will be last... LOL

After that you will get a briefing and wait for the TPs to arrive. they should turn up by about 9.30.... give or take! so eat something before hand

The TPs will be given your documents (IC and PDL). they will ask you for your IC number (so if you don't know it by heart memorize it or you may get in trouble). They will then give you back your documents. I suggest you carry a water proof pouch or wallet or plastic bag in your pocket. I got caught in the rain and my paper documents were all completely damaged.. inluding my booklet which was previously nice and neat with only 15 lesson stamps (HAO LIAN ABIT CAN?). not that it helped. i failed, remember?

Then they will disperse and get ready to start the test. IT will be much like your lesson 8. All the bikes are in the center of the nursery. if you are early like me, there is a high chance you will get the bike you used for warm up. But thats not a given, so don't hold out for it.

You walk to your bike (make sure you have all your gear already on before you enter the nursery). Push it off the stand and start it. Do a quick check on the lights, signal, horn and brake lights. They would have been safety checked for the warm up anyway, but you should check the few key things. Most importantly make sure the headlights are on.

You will be asked the instructors on duty to move up to the start line (2 bikes, left right as per l8). For my TP the TP sitting at the blind junction corner was the one giving us our instructions to start. He will wave and you proceed as usual if its your turn (if you are #7 and #5 is next to you, it means its #5 turn, not yours!)

Check for traffic, (tip look behind you through the nursery to make sure no cars or bikes are about to turn left from the f8 area, they might appear in your right side out of nowhere). Check back right, check blindspot left and proceed out of nursery if it is clear (2 lanes, remember).

Check your mirror for traffic on the second land, signal right, check blindspot right an filter right. You will reach the blind junction, the TP would have been watching you the whole time if you are among the earlier ones (no one else to distract him). Don't forget, blind junction, stop before the stop line, inch forward. Check for traffic from all directions including the opposite filter lane. Remember, it may be TP but there will be learner cars on the circuit. If clear, check back right and turn right (no need to check two sides for right turn).

From the right lane, check your mirror for cars on the left lane, signal left, check blindspot left and filter. THE TP WILL BE WATCHING YOU LIKE A HAWK ALL THE WAY TO THE END OF THE ROAD BEFORE HE CALLS THE NEXT ONE TO START. Don't slack or lose contentration.

Off signal, as you reach the right hand bend, check your mirror, check blind spot right, and take the bend (do not brake while turning, 2 points). immediately after turning you will now be in the vision of the TP Sitting at the plank. Check for traffic on your right, signal right, check blindspot right and filter. Keep your signal on and proceed to turn right towards slope. There is a risk of wide turn here so be careful. Head towards slope, check ahead to see which side of the slope is occupied. Don't forget, you have to be left right left right. Check for oncoming traffic, be careful sometimes the learner cars at the traffic light signal left but they come straight!! Bust Turds!... then if clear, check your blindspot right and proceed to turn. Take the correct side of the slope. You must be in gear 2 as you proceed up the slope (Unless you were waiting at the foot of the slope). Stop before the line (signal in the direction of the curb to stop). Then check your mirror, signal away from the curb, keep your right foot on the brake, throttle up, find your biting point, THEN check back away from the curb, release brake and proceed half clutch to the top of the slope, release clutch and engine brake down change signal to the left and drag rear brake a bit. Stop before line at bottom. DO NOT INCH OUT. check for traffic coming from the right, check back away from curb proceed to turn left (if you are on the left curb, check back right then check blind spot left, 2 sided check here).

Remember to turn off your signal as soon as you complete your turn, else is wrong signalling as there is a left turn coming up. Pass that junction, check blindspot left before the bend (if you need to slow down do so before the bend, do not step brake while negotiating the bend). slow down for the pedestrian crossing even if it looks like no one is crossing. proceed straight - there will be a TP siting at figure 8, he will be watching you, if not timing someone on F8. slow down for the left turn, signal left, check blindspot left proceed to turn. Stop before the F8 entrance one row. IF there is a que and you must stop before the yellow box at F8 exit, it is 2 rows, left right left right.

Proceed to inch forward till you are at start of F8. Wait for the blinker. Check back right, check blind spot left, proceed to figure 8. Turn off signal after entering, proceed to do your turns... signal left before exit F8, stop before line. Here, no blinker. Go at your own pace but don't wait too long. Check ahead towards the exit of Crank. To see if there are bikes or cars there so you can plan ahead if you need to stop or change lane while inside the yellow box upon exiting.

Keep your signal on all the way through crank. As you reach the exit check for traffic, if non, proceed without stopping. make sure you turn left to the first left lane. if no bikes proceed straight, no need to filter right. If got bikes, signal right, check blind spot, filter right, after passing the bikes, signal left, check blind spot left and filter back left. Make left turn at traffic light. Remember, if you have to stop, its one line (make sure u r signalling left). If you are first bike at stop, check back right and left as you move off. If you are not first bike, check back right to move off then check blind spot before you turn.

Now you will be back passing nursery entrance, back to the first TP. Check ur right mirror, signal right and check blindspot right, filter right. Follow the same procedure as the starting point. Remember also, the TP will watch you if there is no other bike in front of you.

Proceed to turn right and filter left for your Plank. Don't forget your left side blind spot as you enter the plank waiting lane. Don't forget to off your signal when waiting to start plank.Inch forward, remember 2 bikes in a row at the start line. Wait for blinker. check back right and proceed with your plank. if not confident, go a bit fast take your 4 points. this is a common IF location so play safe unless you are ace in plank (i'm not!)

Stop after plank. Do not wait for signal from TP. move off without delay do your slalom. Don't forget your blind spot check at the end of slalom even if you are not moving out of the lane. If no car parked in the left lane, keep going straight, no need to filter right out to the road. If there is a car parked there, signal right, and filter out, then signal left, check blind spot and filter back into ebrake lane.

At ebrake, make sure you off your signal. Wait for blinker. Check back right, move off fast in 1st gear speed up, change to 2nd gear keep speeding up until you reach 30kmh+ then change to 3rd gear (do not speed up)... hold your speed, in fact you can turn down the throttle a bit as you cruise along... reach stopping zone, turn off throttle, squeeze front and rear brakes gradually, don't jam. squeeze front brakes all the way to come to stop, clutch in before you stop, left leg down, elbows locked looking straight ahead. these little things like elbow and looking down etc will attract points. Check back right, put your right foot down, change down to first MAKE SURE ITS FIRST AND NOT NEUTRAL. many bikes will be stuck at this place, so pump the clutch to make sure you move down to 1st). Check back left, put your left foot down, signal right, check back right, move off.

before the exit of the ebrake lane is double white line - do not cross it. the next line is a give way line, meaning no stopping unless there is traffic. Check back right while moving to see if there is traffic. Make sure 2 lanes are clear. If clear proceed to filter out. If not stop first.

After leaving the ebrake lane the TP WILL BE STARING AT YOU FROM EBRAKE STATION. he wants to check that you make a correct blind spot check to the right before you make the right turn at the end. do that and do not step brake as you negotiate the corner. keep ur signal on and rememeber to filter to the right lane at the motorcycle registration counter AS YOU HEAD FOR THE EXIT TO DO YOUR ROAD.

Remember - DO NOT PROCEED TO TURN RIGHT AND GO BACK TO NURSERY!!!

Also remember, there is a pedestrian crossing before you reach the exit - there will likely be pedestrians around. Be careful.

After this is proceed to ROAD CIRCUIT. They will tell you in the tent before you start which Route it is. Usually Route 1.

TO BE CONTINUED WITH CIRCUIT PROCEDURE

This will be put to good use for Lesson 5. :p

Took my Lesson 5 today and got:

Long list of errors.

3 issues stand out - blind spots, signalling and road hogging.

In the end, in order to pass you basically need to memorize the test course. Memorize the places you need to check blind spot and check back, memorize where you need to signal, memorize where to change lane. Then execute it like a memorized poem, the same every time.

Blind spots need to be checked every time you change direction, even slightly. Before every turn, before changing lane, and at every bend in the road - for example blind spot check on your left when your bike is facing the school building / kopitiam and you are turning left towards the pedestrian crossing.

ORD already no need defensive riding also. haha. You only need that to book in as an NSF.

Then again, as NSmen I'm not sure need anot. Have yet to go reservist with my bike. :D I also cleared my 2b during NS time. TP was 2 weeks after ORD so had lots of time for revision!

Just remembered that I'm having my Defensive Riding Theory (DRT) tomorrow, is the classroom cold? Still thinking whether I should wear a jacket or not. The other thing is that, how do I know which floor or where the class is conducted? How am I supposed to find the class?

Took my Lesson 5 today and got:

1. FORWARD DRIVING

a. Fail to keep left (road hogging) - 6 points

THIS ONE IS IN THE BOOKLET AND THE THEORY BOOK. SINGAPORE HAS A KEEP LEFT RULE (PEOPLE DONT FOLLOW IN REAL LIFE BUT IN SCHOOL AND TEST YOU MUST FOLLOW). IT MEANS KEEP LEFT UNLESS OVERTAKING OR OBSTRUCTION OR TURNING RIGHT.

FOR THE FULL INTERNAL CIRCUIT YOU ONLY 'DONT KEEP LEFT' AT THE FOLLOWING PLACE:

1. AFTER EXIT NURSERY AT BEGINNING KEEP LEFT BUT IMMEDIATELY CHANGE LANE TO THE RIGHT

2. AFTER TURNING RIGHT AT THE BLIND JUNCTION IMMEDIATELY CHANGE LANE TO THE LEFT UNTIL YOU GO ROUND THE CURVE AT THE PLANK THERE,THEN ONLY FILTER BACK TO THE LEFT TO TURN RIGHT TOWARDS THE PLANK STATION

3. AFTER TURNING RIGHT AT #2 DO NOT NEED TO FILTER LEFT BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING TO TURN RIGHT AT THE PLANK

4. AFTER PLANK TURN LEFT TOWARDS FIGURE 8 IS A SINGLE LANE SO NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT KEEPING LEFT

5. AFTER FIGURE 8 AND CRANK - IF THERE IS NO BIKE ON THE LEFT LANE WAITING TO DO THE FIGURE 8 YOU MUST KEEP LEFT ALL THE WAY TO THE TRAFFIC LIGHT

6. AFTER TURNING LEFT AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AFTER CRANK KEEP LEFT AT FIRST THEN CHANGE LANE TO THE RIGHT

7. KEEP LEFT ALL THE WAY TO THE PLANK

8 AFTER PLANK/SLALOM IF THERE IS NO CAR IN THE LEFT EMERGENCY LANE, KEEP LEFT AND NO NEED TO FILTER OUT

b. Fail to change to appropriate gear before turning / stopping - 4 points

IN THE CIRCUIT THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY CORNER WHICH YOU USE 3RD GEAR.

c. Unnecessary stopping - 2 points

MOST COMMON PLACE - AFTER CRANK. IF THE ROAD IS CLEAR YOU SHOULD NOT STOP AT THE EXIT OF CRANK

2. SAFETY-CHECK

a. Fail to check blind spot - 4 points (Originally there are only 3 boxes for this, but it seems the instructors added 2 more boxes for it since I failed to check blind spot. So, 4 points x 5)

IN THE TRAINING SHED THERE IS A MAP WITH YELLOW AND RED DOTS AND MARKINGS - THIS SIGNIFY WHERE THE BLIND SPOT AND SAFETY CHECKS SHOULD BE. REFER ALSO TO MY LESSON FIVE POSTING

b. Improper checking of blind spot - 2 points

3. SIGNALLING

a. Fail to signal / Give wrong signal - 4 points (Again, originally there are only 3 boxes for this, but it seems the instructors added 1 more box for it since I failed to signal? So, 4 points x 4)

MOST COMMON PLACES - FIGURE 8 YOU MUST TURN OFF SIGNAL UPON BEGINNING THE COURSE THEN TURN ON LEFT SIGNAL JUST BEFORE EXIT FIGURE 8. KEEP IT ON LEFT SIGNAL UNTIL YOU EXIT CRANK. PLANK - UPON ENTERING THE PLANK WAITING AREA, YOU WILL HAVE YOUR LEFT SIGNAL ON BECAUSE YOU JUST FILTERED LEFT. REMEMBER TO TURN IT OFF. SAME AS EBRAKE.

4. IMMEDIATE FAILURE

a. Just at the start point, moving off when the instructor have not waved/called me out yet. -.-

SELF EXPLANATORY. OTHER IMMEDIATES WHICH YOU MIGHT NOT REALIZE - SIT ON BIKE WHILE ON MAINSTAND AND PUSH OFF, NOT HAVING HEADLIGHT ON. GOING WRONG COURSE.

IN THE CIRCUIT THE ONLY TIME I NEED TO GO TO GEAR 3 IS EBRAKE. OTHERWISE I STAY IN 2. A FEW THINGS YOU NEED TO BE AWARE - FOR PLANK YOU MUST BE IN GEAR 1, FOR SLOPE YOU MUST GO UP THE SLOPE IN SECOND GEAR THEN SHIFT DOWN AS YOU STOP (UNLESS YOU ARE ALREADY WAITING AT THE BOTTOM OF PLANK BEFORE GOING UP). FIGURE 8 AND CRANK AND SLALOM ALL MUST SHIFT UP TO SECOND GEAR TO COMPLETE THE COURSE

1c. Unnecessary stopping - How can I eliminate this? Someone tell, where not to stop unnecessarily?

YOU ONLY HAVE TO STOP:

1. IF THERE IS AN OBSTRUCTION OR OTHER VEHICLE IN THE WAY

2. BEFORE BEGINING A STATION

3. AT STOP LINE

4. WHEN TRAFFIC LIGHT IS RED

5. IF PEDESTRIAN IS CROSSING THE PEDESTRIAN CROSSING

One of the instructor gave a tip, blind spot check at the arrow before the bend, the distance there is more or less the 1.5

Yep, it's true. Make sure to brake sufficiently before passing the arrow, and let go after passing the arrow.

Hello everyone! Haven't been posting here for the longest time already lol. Maybe I'll do a bit of update.

Didn't come here to post mostly because I failed my 1st TP back in October and I feel demoralized. Wanted nothing to do with Class 2B talk. Earlier this morning I failed my 2nd TP again haha. I feel even more demoralized now.

After today's TP, it really struct me on how strict the testers are. 1st TP was okay, I failed because I screwed up and I know it. Today it feels different (at least for myself). Every little mistake I was penalized. I felt I did better than my 1st TP in terms of riding, but I ended up getting more demerit points than 1st TP.

With this very very strict practical test, I'm afraid I will never pass, honestly speaking.

I've spent about $1.5K on Class 2B already and I still can't pass. Another $100++ ($35 for RT, $55 for TP and more money for Circuit/Road revisions) will push my Class 2B lessons to almost $1.7K (ouch).

I feel there must be a time when I tell myself to stop. Anyway, I'm currently a student with no income. I can't possibly keep pumping money into bike lessons. I've decided to close my account.

However, riding is still one of my deep down interests. When I've graduated and have entered the working force, I will definitely get back to getting my Class 2B when I am more financially well off. My dream is to get a Class 2B license, but I'll have to postpone it for a few years for now.

Enough about me lol. Even though I've not been posting here for months, I still come to this thread and see see look look for tips and tricks. Thanks to everyone who post helpful tips here I really appreciate it.

28 practical lessons, 20 revision lessons,1 Re-training, 2 TP, and STILL FAIL! I am the joke of the century haha. Nobody can win my number of lessons taken lol.

Haiz in the end I booked another TP on the 19 February. Totally no confidence that I will pass. I passed my class 3 on the first time why I suck so much on bike...

Practice, practice and more practice. Ask the instructors for feedback and guidance during your circuit revision. Take as many revision as you feel you need to, not how many you can afford. If it works better, save money first..

all the best!
