Would like to ask if this have been successful in education?

 

Juz a gathering of bikers and getting goodie bag? Short distance having Marshall, is it giving a wrong concept that there will be guardian angel?

 

I do hope so... BUT as i was on the road, I could see 1 SG rider on 1 hand. Another zipping thru traffic and can horn other road users as they zoom past.

 

To make the matter worst, they are class 2b bike. These grp shld be the most well behaved since "assume they juz gotten license " but many a time they are not.

 

Hope that riders ride safely.

Dear Road Safety Partners

 

The Traffic Police Department (TP) and the Singapore Road Safety Council (SRSC) launched the Singapore Ride Safe 2013 on Saturday, 1st June 2013 at Science Centre Singapore. This year’s Ride Safe campaign will conclude the Singapore Road Safety Month 2013 with the launch of the road safety outreach to motorcyclists. About 1,000 motorcyclists and their partners attended the event. Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary for Health and Transport was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.

 

As part of the Safer Roads Singapore action plan, the Singapore Road Safety Council [sRSC] and Traffic Police [TP] successfully organised Singapore Ride Safe 2013 at Science Centre with our key message “SAFER ROADS SINGAPORE – EVERY LIFE MATTERS”.

 

Motorcyclists continue to form the majority of road traffic fatalities. To reduce the number of motorcyclist fatalities on our roads, it is important to equip motorcyclists with a good foundation in both road safety knowledge and relevant practical skills from the onset. This falls under the key pillar of ‘Education’ in the Safer Roads Singapore action plan.

 

As part of the Safer Roads Singapore action plan to provide fundamental road safety knowledge, all learner riders must attend a compulsory Expressway Familiarisation Ride before they obtain their Class 2B licence to ply the roads starting from 1 June 2013. This compulsory 100-minute course will help new riders to better manage the demands of riding on expressways.

 

The event will see the sharing of practical road safety lessons by instructors from the main driving schools to the motorcyclists. Such sharing of safe riding techniques and relevant road regulations, aims to reduce the risks of motorcyclists’ involvement in road accidents. By bringing home these lessons and putting them to good use, these motorcyclists can make a big difference to their own safety on the roads.

 

The involvement of the motorcyclists’ partners and loved ones at the event will allow their partners and loved ones to learn about these road safety lessons at the same time. Their partners and loved ones can help to remind the motorcyclists on the need to put into practice these lessons diligently on the roads.

 

It is equally important for motorcyclists to wear protective gears when riding. To increase their awareness on the importance of wearing protective gears, all motorcyclists will be given customized jackets with luminous strips fitted with padding at the elbow area, riding gloves and bright-coloured polo tee shirts at the event.
