Actually ...

it nt reari fair to compare a jap naked bike to a jap full fairing bike....

the bike specs are so diff....

 

examples are

R1 to FZ1

ZX10 to Z1000

Blackbird to X11

etc etc

 

Jap manufacturer love to take full fairing bike engine & convert them to street bike or naked bikes juz by "detuning" the engine.... (diff powerband etc etc)

unlike some of the european counterparts....

 

any way insurance is cheaper, bike itself is cheaper....

thus u get cheaper stuff on bike....

even full fairing bikes might nt have the best of parts;

examples will be

R1 brembo masterpump stock bore size is only 16...

ZX10R (04-05) (1 of the most powerful litre bike ) nisin masterpump stock is only 14

i believe FZ1 nisin masterpump stock is 16....(nt bad compare to FZS1000 which is only 14)

If nt hw those aft market brands like Brembo, Ohlins etc tec earn....

 

End of the day...

it does nt matter what bike u ride...

it the enjoyment in riding tat is most impt....

My thoughts on the gen2 FZ1 after over 3yrs of ownership:

 

- Bad fuel economy ( but sometimes i get 17km/L)

- Useless suspensions, esp the rear , sometimes i feel like riding on a boat.

- Sluggish engine response , sometimes need to ride it like a 600

- Batt problems , i believe i could have gotten a full system wif the $ i have spent replacing the batts n troubleshoots.

- Brake are not tat responsive after bike is being ridden hard for a while

 

I believe the lazy engine could be due to the detune n the bike being heavier than the R1.

 

But on the whole , i still like the FZ1 , its been my workhorse , n ever since the box went up , i have been using it more often instead of parking in the MSCP.

 

Hope a good replacement comes along . Wishlists is for the FJR to be updated. Nothing fancy , juz give my USD radial forks n fully adjustable suspensions n a lower seat height.

Heh heh. Yes sluggish.

My chief dislikes are

- Rear shocks

- Slow revving engine

 

Brakes are halfway decent, but fades quickly as you said. Fixed that with braided hose. But I brake late and hard (something which my pillion HATES, so I'm retraining my riding... hahaha) so maybe it fades more quickly. Anyway, now on a lookout for a used radial MC.

 

FZ1 stock masterpump is brembo..

 

Yes they are Brembos, but I think they're lower grade items. Just like the Ohlins found stock on the XJRs. Anyway, stock master cyls not radial, so it doesn't really make a diff from those no-brand ones.

Haha... no choice la. I had to do a currency conversion. Once I saw the figures, my head automatically do the math.... add in shipping.... add in suspension servicing at Bikelab...... add in mechanic installation here....

LOL. I know, so I'll just say it out and up front.

 

After riding it for 1.5 years, here's what I think about our good ol' FZ1 Gen 2.

 

- Lazy engine. Not responsive enough

- Sluggish acceleration for a litre bike

- Engine response gets worse once the bike is hot

- Bike struggles to breathe, airbox too constricted.. needs modding

- Crappy rear shock. No compression damping settings

- Rear Shock sags and gets soft real fast

- Slow turn in, slow to steer

- Stock brakes suck, no bite no feel

- Lousy fuel consumption for a non-sportbike

- Mirrors get loose after a while, especially if pushed up or down for parking often

 

- Lazy engine. Not responsive enough ( WHat you can do is to Mod the air box, Reroute the wire, change to KNN or BMC air filter so that the air hole can get bigger = more air will come in = can drag more and respond better.)

- Sluggish acceleration for a litre bike ( WHat you can do is to change to a aftermarket throttle plate. This sld wake up the beast and feel more like a 1000cc bike + you can change the front to 16T. will increase ur pick up or De CAT. )

- Engine response gets worse once the bike is hot ( I feel better riding once my engine warm up, maybe is own preferance ba )

- Bike struggles to breathe, airbox too constricted.. needs modding ( Agreed.. Reason is the wire is blocking the air hole and air box is too small. Blocking all the air from going inside. )

- Crappy rear shock. No compression damping settings ( AGreed.. saving $$ to change to Ohlins..!! Around 1.7k.. )

- Rear Shock sags and gets soft real fast (Me so far so gd ba, cause me not that hard core riding.. Maybe change to a aftermarket front fork spring will be gd )

- Slow turn in, slow to steer ( No Comment )

- Stock brakes suck, no bite no feel ( Thats why i change to a Brembo 19RCS.. Result is excellent.. !! Stopping distancs is reduce, now i not afraid of car in front doing E-BRake )

- Lousy fuel consumption for a non-sportbike ( Right now u talking bout a 1000cc bike, can't complaint much.. Doesn't matter is a non sport or sport )

- Mirrors get loose after a while, especially if pushed up or down for parking often ( maybe you can try finding a wu-lu place to park, then lk this dun need to fold ur mirror. AHhHA )

yup, the eyelet is easier to install...

 

the one with dash panel is for those bros who like to look nice... hahaha... for me, i got the one with dash panel, gonna install it into my dash panel...

 

basically, there is 3 lights, red, amber and green... it works like traffic lights like that, green = healthy... amber = time to charge... red? of cus warning lo... hehehehe... eyelet one has jus the 3 lights but no indication on wad does it means... dash panel one have everything to explain to you in layman term...

 

previously we are talking abt batt charger... and yes, it mean this...

 

pricing wise... i would suggest you get it from limbat...

 

yup... ultimate safety precaution... recommend to vanselle too... hahaha! cheers!

FZS1000 aka gen1 is using stock brembo...

& i notice the rear disc brake is unsually big as compared to a gen 2...

hmm....

 

Any way speaking abt throtle plate or throttle tube...

there some1 selling the "mod" customise throttle tube...

it a gd investment but $120 to $150 kinda ex....

Prev i used a R1 throttle tube on my 12r...

much better respone....

nw i use a throttle clip (3sizes to choose) & a throttle tube...

result is...

SURE CAN FEEL THE DIFF!!!! LOL

& most imptly pricing is much cheaper

the throttle clip is very popular in UK...

it was featured in one of the UK bike Mag (but i can't rem ...lol)

hope i did nt mistook throttle plate wif throttle tube....
