Hi guys. Need some advice.

After 2 Tag Heuers, 1 Monaco Chrono and a Link Calibre 36, I'm ready to move on to a more serious watch.

I have narrowed down to a few choices:

1) JLC Master Compressor Dualmatic for S$7900

http://homepage.mac.com/adam.madmusic/.Pictures/Watches/masterc.jpg

2) IWC Portugese Automatic S$13 000

3) IWC Chrono Automatic S$7900

To me, the most value for money is represented by the JLC. Great inhouse movement and a very useful complication. I already have 2 chrono watches, so having another stopwatch isn't important. The downside is perhaps the gimmicky looking dial.

The IWC Portugese Automatic is by far my favourite. Very nice inhouse movement, simple and classic dial that won't go out of fashion. However I can buy both the JLC and the Portugese Chrono for the same money. So it's expensive for a simple watch with only a power reserve indicator complication.

The IWC Portugese Chrono is ok. I find it just ok. Don't love it to bits, but don't hate it either. Dial is nice enough. I 'd rather have a date complication than a stopwatch. I wear chrono watches everyday and I have so far used the function just once in 4 years. However at S$7900, it is quite good value.

Another consideration is the Rolex route. Good solid watches, hold their values well. I just find the look very ah pek. Dunno, don't really dig them.

I used to be really really into Panerai, but the more I look at them and know about them, the more I dislike them. Post Vendome watches are merely marketing exercises. Not worth the money at all. So what used to be a must-buy, has now become a forget it.

Does anyone else have any insight? Different suggestions perhaps?

Thanks for reading.

My personal preference will be the JLC one, its looks kooler then then two hahaha, not forgetting that style is also important.......:cheeky:

Panerai are ok but the price to pay is way too high. it's due to speculative pressures. It really depends on what you are buying the watches for.

Investments or for personal use. I buy mine for personal use becos too cheap to consider real investment unless a few hundred grand Patek.

I personal favourites are Rolex Sports (only a few models) and Audemars Piguet Royal Oak series becos of the classic steel look.

It's good to get out of Tag Heuers and Omegas, these are more mass market watches, most of which dont have solid movements.

anyway, i'm no specialist or expert, just look look see see, hear hear say say

am not expert but was told that panarais r ex cos of demand. their movement not exactly tat great but dun ask me why cos i forgot wat the fella told me liao keke.

i agree that tags & omegas r more fashion statements than anything else so i nv considered it as a serious watch. however, if it's a Heuer it's a classic, i dun mind getting one.

i dun wear really expensive watches. My g shock has served me for 3 yrs (the one with Red LCD) and many scratches and i love it alot cos its design never gets boring. Alot of ppl said it looked good. A handful at least.
