at which rpm do u guys shift gears when you're riding ur roadwin? Shift at the manufacturer's suggested rpm levels or by the engine sound? can any experienced rider tell me the suggested rpm levels to shift when in 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th gear? sometimes i feel i might not be shifting accurately and worry that it'll spoil my engine or gearbox...

speed reduce? eh, shouldnt speed reduce only rpm reduce haha..

anybody know why when i shift to 5th gear my speed reduce..example while i'm riding in 4th gear at 100kph when i shift to 5th gear it will reduce to 80kph or 85kph...

it's your 125cc engine does not have power to drive-up.

try using stock sprocket ratio, front 14t n rear 42t.

plus your rear tire size, oem rear tire size is 140/60 if u r using 130/70 (common size in the market) has bigger cricumference than oem.

140/70 is even bigger n heavy, best choice is 130/70.

130/70 or 140/70 tire tat is bigger in circumference is like minus 1~2 teeth from your rear sprocket,

eg. if u r using 38t n with bigger circumference tire, it's like reducing rear sprocket to 36~37t.

i believe u r using rear 38t which r too tall for a small engine to drive a heavy bike.

if u want better acceleration (pickup) try use rear 45t without much drop in rpm when u shift up from 4th to 5th gear but your top cruising speed will be reduce from 110kph to 105kph.

i tried shifting at 4-5k rpm for a period of time. but since my pillion n i add up the weight, very heavy, so it doesnt really work for me. therefore, i changing gears at 6krpm liddat.

hi peah000, welcome to rw thread.

best wishes to u getting your licence soon.

roadwin has evolved from humble naked air-cool single-cam 2004-2006 model to sport water-cool twin-cam engine 2008 model roadwinR.

reason why i knows a lot becoz i had studied n work with marine/aerospace engines during my younger days.

as sillyporean constantly upgraded myself had been thru n thru had left those dirty job to FT n now too free (retired) n roaming the forum. lol.

if u had read thru this thread, lots of info n mods mostly written by me.

don't expect miracles to happens, just improvements on riding n handling.

rw (short for roadwin) many newbies complained about vibrations from the engine.

yes, this engine vib at 4~5k rpm n above 8k rpm.

maybe my old bones luv the vib like on a massage chair. haha.

anyway, 2004~2006 rw isn't a fast bike, it's top speed is 110kph.

it's big n heavy, it's acceleration (pickup) isn't as fast as kups.

fc (fuel consumption) is not the best but the highest in 2b class (26~30km/l).

it does give me joy to ride, feel fast without going too fast.

it does give better tractions n brakes.

most importantly is it's maintenances r simple n easy to do.

i've seen many neglected rundown rw, kind of sad n i don't even want to park next to it.

better option for u is to opt for rwR (roadwinR) since there r new rwR group in sport section. it's a sport model with same size n shape but in a wolf cloth (fairing) with more powerful engine. u will enjoy more with your same age group since there aren't much technical needs to discuss about.

lol. thanks for the welcome.

been reading alot from this thread and yeap, mostly come from you. lol.

anws, i would check out the rwR and learn more about it.

reason why i liked the rw is cos i seen it and fell in love with its size.

like big and powerful. haha. and seems reasonable for a 2B bike lah.

but since u recommend the rwR, i will take it into consideration.

hope to learn more from you, sir! :cheeky:

rw is big but not powerful, unless u know how to tweak it to suit your riding.

rwR has a more power n smoother engine, it's efi (electronic fuel injection) r more fuel efficient so u don't have to worry much.

due to euro4 emission standard which all vehicles r going to face this sept09.

all new bikes will be efi fixed on 4-strokes engine, carb n 2-strokes engine will be phase out.

i see. basically, its more up than the rw lah? lol.

can i get it 2nd-hand? if so, how much do u think it may cost me?
