sigh i still have the ticking sound which should be coming from the chain at 8-9k rpm on all gears.. think gotta go cka and ask one of them to test.. but kinda hard for them to test it at 8-9k rpm on that small road lol..

tic-tic sound.....??

sound getting louder?

find any metal2metal rub?

new sprockets with new chain?

normally there r sounds from running chain.

x-ring chain run noisier than o-ring chain but then it shouldn't be tic sound.

==============

Telltale Signs of Trouble

New chains and sprockets fit tightly together with no appearance of abnormal or excessive wear. When adjusted and lubed properly, the components mesh smoothly and emit an acceptable level of operating noise. Familiarize yourself with the right look of healthy sprockets and chains. Pay attention to changing noise levels coming from the chain area and the “feel of things” when shifting gears. Knowing what to look, listen and feel for can help diagnose problems or alert you as to when to make adjustments or change components.

A visual inspection, conducted after every ride, can go a long way in determining problems that exist or may be brewing as the miles pile up. This, combined with regular maintenance schedules, will help win the war on attrition and power losses.

hm, it is the same problem that i mentioned before. my chain and sprockets are the same as yours - new stock sprockets with rk 428 chain. ive also filed down the bracket thingy such that i think its impossible for the chain to be riding on the bracket.

the sound is similar to that of the IU cover vibrating when not closed properly (rattling sound) but i am sure it is coming from either the engine or the front sprocket area. it only occurs at 8-9k rpm on all gears. thats is what puzzles me. above that rpm range the sound is gone.

really at a loss cos its not easy for roy to test my bike at that rpm range to experience the sound for himself..

btw, if i bring my bike down to cka, is it safe to run the bike at 8k-9k rpm on mainstand? i think that is the only way i can get let the mechs hear the sound..

puzzling...???

i always got plastics rattling on my left side, up till now i still not sure wat's it is.

i know the plastic front sprocket cover cracked n replaced it but not it.

i know my IU unit vibrate too, i dismantled it n bubble bagged place it in the tool compartment, still not it.

there nothing else except stebel horn, oil cooler plastic cover, plastic tank/shield or side cover.

haha but i guess u can tell whether its a bad sound which means something is really wrong

or just irritating sound.. i can tell the sound i get means something is not right.. esp when its only in a certain rpm range.. that makes me worry...

maybe u can roy to check timing chain tensioner (a protruding thing at midway/side of engine) n wheel rim bearings.

do let us know if u manage to pin point your problem.

Posted

oh ok i'll ask them to check it out when i go down.. i doubt its the timing chain tho cos roy helped me test my bike to make sure everything was ok after he finished repairing it (after my accident). i suspect this problem only happened after using this new chain

1 cm gap is ok coz chain don't flex a lot sideway.

just don't use 150/70 tire coz one rw owner did use it n clearly it was rubbed betwn chain n tire at it's edge.

as long as u r using rear tire size 140/60 or 130/70, it's all rite.

oh ok.. thanks alot!

yahoo!!!

solve my mystery left-side plastic rattle.

it's the sprocket plastic cover tat have been rattling all this time.

solve it by placing washer btwn cover n engine.

no more rattle n hopefully no more crack cover.

haha glad u managed to find ur rattling spot.. i dont think mine is so simple tho since the sound only can be heard at a certain rpm range

still on the money-planning board.

no market for super-single sport.

few ppl like me have much interest in these.

bike should be light, agile n quick on the throttle......not those huge monsters.

450cc singles only on super-motarts. :sian:

just went to cka today to find out what my problem was. roy tested my bike and told me that it is my right front fairing + windshield + mirror that is rattling to cause this noise. i went home and tried to pinpoint the problem but i cant seem to find where it is. i placed my hand on different parts and still i cant seem to mute the sound. not easy to do this also cos the sound only occurs at a certain rpm. perhaps my problem is same as urs? the sprocket cover? i guess it could be alot of things but thankfully roy told me its not the chain

sounds like metal to plastic rattling......dunno how to describe sound but u can hear it as u pickup speed.

see attached pics, i added washers n also bent generator wire clamp curve along the green line so tat it will not touch the sprocket cover (u can see there r contact on it).
