This is a LC350, the elder bro of the classic LC125 and the predeceesor of the RD350LC.

The LC125/350 was superceded by the RD125/350LC, which come with the YPVS(Yamaha Power Valve system), found also on the old TZR125/250. We use to call the LC350, LC Tong, in hokkien.

This bike look clean and well maintained..haha..bring back nice memories of my younger days..:)

If you see 250 on the bike, then its RD 250 LC. These were the 2 stroke king in the late seventies. They have 125,250, 350 by Yamaha and later 400cc 2 stroke call Waterwolf by Suzuki.

I have riden the RD125LC, RD250YPVS and RD350YPVS, so let me clear these confusions about these road legends.

Mid Seventies

The first generation RDs were the RD250 and RD350. They have twin cylinder, air cooled 2-stroke engine. They were fitted with chrome exhaust pipes that is low and parallel to the ground. The difference between the 250 and the 350 is the front disc brakes. The 250 has a single disc, whereas the 350 has dual disc The RD350 was very fast that they're the target of the traffic police. Later, Yamaha built the RD400 Daytona. The facelift for the 400 was the fuel tank and side panel design. In those days they called the RDs the Road Devil. And the Road Devil have taken many a riders' life. Two of my riding buddies died in the same accident.

Early Eighties

The next generation of RDs were the RD250LC and RD350LC. The letters LC stand for Liquid Cooled. The entire look was revamped with exhaust pipes tilted upward for better ground clearance. Still, the difference between 250 and 350 is the single and dual disc brakes at the front. As you can see in the picture above the bike sport a single front disc The LCs still lived up to the their predessors as being the road devils. This was also the period when Yamaha introduce the 125cc version, the RD125LC.

Mid Eighties

Following the LC generation were the RD250YPVS, RD350YPVS and RD125YPVS. The letters YPVS stand for Yamaha Power Valve System. The YPVS are installed at the exhaust outlet of the cylinder block just before the exhaust pipes connections to control the volume of exhaust gas leaving the combustion chambers. Still upholding the legend with speed and ferocity. Later, Yamaha released the biggest Road Devil ever: the RD500, even more ferocious.

I hope this have been useful for those seeking to know about the RD's evolution. You can always do a web search for the pictures of the different RD models.
