    • Class 3A (automatic car)?
    • Class 3 (manual and automatic car)?

Quite alot of people are signing up for the 3A license nowadays. I'd say about 80% are female (rough estimate). Another factor that people consider is the cost. The curriculum for 3A is shorter than the one for 3 (no gearchanging subjects and no seperate subject for circuit slope at SSDC), and the general impression is that learning to drive an auto car is easier, thus having to take less lessons overall and saving some money.

Anyone with a 3A license can always go back and retake the TP test for their class 3 anyways.

Those who risk nothing, do nothing, achieve nothing, become nothing.

definitely 3.

it is the same thing as you want class 2a or class 2?

class 2 can ride anything

class 3 can drive any car.

class 3A is for chicken sh*t be it man or woman.

might as well buy a remote control car and just play at home

I like your post and totally agree with u....:cheer: :cheer:

LPPL thing, unless u r really very sure they will scrap all manual car, lorry, van and etc... in future, if not, y waste $.

But think of it, y didn't introduce 2BA, automatic bike to encourage gals to take bike lic. Then we can hv more cute gals on the road.

At least, we might hv chance to meet 1 in workshop, something really nice to look at during our boring wait.

no offence to ladies out there..but i guess 3A will benefit ladies the most cos most of them often complain "why the need to shift gears when you can have it in automatic?" hehehe lazy?....conveniece?....technically disabled? .... i dun know really.....well i possess a class 3....but to be frank for sg roads its much more relax to drive auto cars.... manual cars can also shiok lah...unless it is "performance cars".....then again where to "perform?"...hahhahah

now manual car gear is so smooth and light, even for stock WRX STi or EVO8, unless owners backside itchy, change it lah, won't cramp yr left legs during heavy traffic jam, drove the Suzuki GTi 3yrs ago, f**k, no power steering nvr mind but leg always cramps when jam. surprise to c some gals driving. Left legs muscle must be big.

One advantage that manual cars have over autos are cost efficiency. Manual cars cost less, uses less petrol and above all is cheaper for maintenance with regards to its gearbox. Parts can be replaced by components. As for autos, they use more gas, car price are more than manuals and the gearbox have to be replaced as a set. No such things as changing of components. Was told by a Mazda mechanic that a new Mazda 3 tiptronic gearbox cost 13k and above. Man, thats gonna hurt when your gearbox go bonkers.

But then, autos are easy to drive. If you have the money, i always think why not.

R u or am i of abovementioned? tot the topic here is about lic? not car. After you pass, you can drive a manual car like auto, 1st gear go round spore. Think usually happens on rental car.

Dun waste time to take class 3A 'cause it is only for ppl who is lazy....

Class 3 is the way to go.....

I dun believe when a person who has a class 3A will only have chance to touch Auto cars... So if he wanna try to drive his friend's car to find out his car is manual...Oww......

All as well, ends well.

Since everybody here advocates Class3 over Class3a, let me be the voice of the opposition party then

Class 3 definitely has the flexibilty over class3a. However, if you are not intending to pursue professions in driving or upgrade to class 4/5, when would you ever want to buy and drive a manual family car?

It is the same as Class2 is more flexible than Class2a or Class3b. But does every rider really need to get class2?

The quesion is not whether should Class3 be totally terminated. Perhaps it is how popular, as a percentage of the total driving population in Singapore, will class3a be now and in 10 years' time.

Looking at the new private cars on the road for the past few years, the majority are auto. If you are going to buy a car for communiting and transport purposes (minus performance car), who would opt for manual when there's auto?

Looking from another point of view, if you want to sell your familycar (non-performance) now, which do you think will have more ready buyers, manual or auto?

Even for performance cars, with the advancement of technology, they need not be manual. With Steptronic system, SMG or automated manual hydrallic shifting, many high performance cars today can be drived with class3a. Eg: All Mercs including SLK, CLK and AMG; BMW including M3 and M5, Nissan FairLady, Ferrari F360, F460, all Porsches have Tiptronic option, even Evo7/8 GSR!

So even if you have a Class3a, you are not precluded from driving performance car. Look a Schmacher the reigning F1 champion, even he doesn't really a Class3 to drive F1 cars :)

Technology advancement has also cured much of the fuel inefficiency problem of auto cars. New auto cars now are just 5% or less less efficient than manual version. Auto cars with CVT gearbox (continuously variable transmission) eg: Honda Fit, Nissan Sunny, actually has fuel economy that a manual car can never achieve.

In the US, which has had introduced differentiated manual/auto licenses more than 10 years ago, the overwhelming majority of the countries' non-professional drivers have auto-license. The default configuration of private cars is also auto. If you want to buy a manual version, you have to pay more and there might not be stock.

Singapore, perhaps in 5-10 years' time, might be in a similar situation.

By that time, people who are going to take car license, are going to see more and more of other people who had Class3a for several years and had never miss having Class3, and other people who have Class3 and never had the need to drive manual cars.

I have a Class3 and 2

I feel that if you learn something, you gotta know the basics well, like driving car, have to know about the basics of controlling to make you a better driver.

Class 3 for me definitinely

Failure is the route to success...

Class 3 is definetly a better choice for a complete driver..

one point to add, auto car learning package pricing is somewhat close to manual car package in driving centre, was told by a fren who works there.. both go through the same lesson eg, parking, slope, dir change, e-brake, narrow course.. juz that the first few lesson of manual car is omit for auto cars.. well, flexibility is the key word here, though auto car may seem overwhelming in population, but havin cl3 license is stil better as u wont noe when u will drive a manual car :D .... y save tt little money when u can have better flexibility?..

well, during traffic light stopping i do c some auto car drivers shift from D to N.. is tt they are lazy to step on brakes? if so, then during jam it will be worst.. manual cars u can use handbrake n neutral gera when stopping at traffic light.. juz my 2 cts :D

i agree with endlessloop..

if you dont have the need to drive lorries, vans and whatsoever, a class3 is not really of use... and in singapore, there isnt any place to 'play' with performance cars.. every few meters and u see traffic lights.

and if the market now hits on auto cars and going to continue doing so, chances of getting/driving a manual car will be like, little.

juz my one cent. =)

u have a point there  ... well to me, u'll nv noe when u had to drive a manual, lets say apply for delivery or transport driver?.. its a bit earli to make decision so quickly on choosing to learn 3A... juz my $ :D

I personnally is taking 3a right now.. never think of taking manual cos i definitely will not drive manual car, basically dun see a need there... who will buy a manual car unless you wanna to perform or save a bit... I think most ppl will choose to buy auto cars in Sin... unless if i really need to drive a manual car / lorry in future, i will then consider to upgrade to classs 3...
