I don't think that will happen soon. With all these increases, it will only make budget cars more appealing. With a cheaper car, total operating cost remains constant.

 

Did anyone notice that in Malls, office buildings, floor area to car park ratios have deceased ? Existing malls are converting their parking lots to shopping areas such as in Raffles City, and new buildings have lesser parking lots.

Just about 2 hours of parking in town cost $7.50, makes me wonder how someone can properly own (owning means being able to drive and use the car as one wishes) a car if he doesnt earn at least $5k a month and free from other debt.

unless you have $$$ to down, or you are dead sure of your future income stream, otherwise you might end up "serving" your car rather than you car serving you.

 

COE is bullshit but so is ERP and many other things.

what to do?

At least you dont have to face past situations where COE is $25k+++ for a small car.

Bro, I think it all depends on one's expenses and other commitments.

And only that person will know.

 

But just be reminded that Petrol is $2 per litre.

ERP is all around and at higher price and parking is double of what it used to be in CBD.

 

As long as one can accept the situation both financial and mentally.

The answer is yes.

 

However, the opportunity cost is being able to save more money and using that money for something else which could be more important.

 

An average normal plate jap car expenses including depreciation per year is about $15k

if your company paying you car allowance, 3k should be fine for a small jap car.

if your company not paying you that, means you doesn't really need a car for work, then it is better save the money and use it for something else more worthy.

if you save 1k per month, 1 year is 12k, you can use it for investment and earn some money.
