Hey guys, I have just passed my class 2b recently.. So now im doing research on bikes to get.. Would like to share my thoughts and get suggestions from you guys who have already been riding way before me.

At the moment, Im planning to go for class 2A in 1 year's time and stop there (now is like that say la.. but who knows scar-ly will further to class2 haha). But ultimately I know that I want a maxiscooter of a 400cc (which i believe is sufficient for local commuting and visit our neighbour up north once in awhile).

Im thinking of getting a cheap 2nd hand manual 2B bike to last me till class 2A. So i wont be too rusty on clutch and gears when i take e test 1 year from now. Honestly, im not so much of a speed person, so im looking for fuel economic 2B bike. It should be pillion friendly (back seat comfy? not sure)

Reasons for getting a bike:

- Purely for commuting (thats why i ultimately want to go for a scooter.. Twist and go, simple no hassle)

- Saves time travelling and no need to squeeze in Public sandwich transport

- Pillion my wife to work

- Can't afford a car

I was considering getting a phantom 200, but after some research, I realize its a really old bike and it is easier to skid or lose balance due to heavy rear and not so noob friendly for new riders. (Will be pillion-ing my wife, and safety comes first though i know end of the day, skid or not depends on rider's skills.)

Can you guys please advise which bike will you go for, should you be in the same situation as me?

Thank you so much.

Since you have been using driving centre bike, best get that type of bike Honda CB125??? my time, 20 years ago it is one of the best learner bike and still is. very smooth and reliable. fuel efficent and still got enough power for 2 riders. but you want power, too many to mention

Maybe you can consider X1, Spark, FZ16. Go walk around bike shops & sit on them. See which bike is most comfortable for you & your wife. I feel that FC for all 4 stroke bikes are good, it's just the handling & comfort that differs. Past 2 months I was riding Yamaha R125, FC is good (600km/tank) but the ride is quite uncomfortable.

Remember scooters dun have much of a lean angle, so if enter corner too fast, must swing butt out.

And also scooters are considerably dangerous on wet roads because of it's small tyre circumference.

Be careful now. Trang tang tang tang...

No matter what bike you get as your first bike, after a while you will get used to the bike's characters. Dont quite matter if it's front, centre or rear heavy.

Dunno if its because of tyres cuz its still wider than kup tyres. Just that maybe due to geometry of the bike, you don't know when they might give way, they just do.

Yea actually I did considered that as well.. thinking of just going for 2nd hand. so still waiting for a 2nd hand bike to appear in the bikemart.

have you considered kup?

Vespa. 4 stroke one.

Im quite big size, so i think not going for a kup haha.

Ahh i see.. I was considering of getting those bigger scooters like silverwing, downtown etc Cos I like the idea and feel of just twist and go. And most important its practical for commuting and it has big storage spaces.. Not so sure of the FC though.

So u mean a scooter requires more maintenance as compared to a sports/naked manual bike?

Sorry har, im really very new to the bike world.. Alot of things not sure.

Thanks.

like that huh very difficult. you and wifey first must go around bike shops and get a feel of many 2b bikes. secondly, you also need to go bikemart and see how many bikes within that category. 3rdly how heavy and big are you?? 1.8m 100kg?? you must compromise to really pillon your wife or ride yourself(for safety sake)

Posted

I think your budget abit low if you include COE and insurance. Not considering instalment? Just go to reputable shops and check it out.

If I want to go down to 2nd hand bike shop to test drive and see see look look, do you guys have any recommendation of shops please?

Thanks alot!

You mentioned that you are big size, and can't ride kup

how big size is your 'big size?'

I'm 180cm 85kg and riding a wave R. no regrets though :D

With that budget and your intention to ride it until you get 2A, you do have some choices, but don't have too much expectations on condition and age of bike. Go for typical commuter bikes like the school ones.

I went to do some research on spark.. It has pretty good reviews~ :) haha. Thanks.

bro u can go ubi and kaki bukit see old 2nd hand bikes..lot there ...

Ok thanks alot bro! Going down to a fren's relative bike shop in the west.. See how is it. :D

Just wondering, will the bike mechanic/sales ppl let you try multiple bikes?

Get something like a YBR, RXZ, RXK, Pulsar. Won't have a long COE lifespan though with your budget.

Yea, I think end of the day if i dunno what to get within my budget to last me till 2A, I may just get the bike i rode @ cdc.
