It will end up like this one too, unless we keep our dicipline.

I'll try to answer technical questions as best as possible, I hope the other experienced MOnster riders can chip in too. Please don't go off topic or add unnessesary content which can mess up and confuse people seeking genuine technical advice. :thumb:

I'm sure it'll be worth it.

It's like I got bitten by some love bug... Ever since I read thru the Ducati threads and checked out the Ducati websites, I'm totally attracted to the idea of owning one.

Monster, its just too beautiful. I even went to those NIKKON model shops to look at them. Currently for 1:12 they only have a model with 2 exhaust. I think its Monster1000. No S4R in sight yet.

My only concern now is the cost. Maintenence + fuel comsumption.

Frankly I don't think the cost of owning one is sky high. It's all relative. It's probably more than owning a Jap bike but the "unique" factor is something which is a trade-off. haha also the looks at traffic lights, a cheap but nice thrill.

As for fuel comsumption; mine (M400) is about 20km per litre. My other frens says that it is very decent. Another fren who owns a M1000 averages aboyt 15 km per litre; on the high side.

Then again, my duke is about 2 years old, so consumption tends to be better. The older bikes would probably have a higher consumption. Neo, does the termis add to peformance a lot?

Cheers

My bike is almost 6 years old, does 24km/litre best, and now it does 23km/litre average. On touring mode, can drop to 21km/litre. And I think I ride my Monster fairly hard.

Maintenance wise, its just more frequent, thats all. The additional costs involved are mostly preventive maintenance, which is frankly not much more than normal bikes. Parts prices are comparable to Japanese bikes.

But its just sad to see neglected Ducatis. Some people can afford Ducatis, buy one, then neglect them. The bikes naturally detoriate, start to spoil, then owners blame Ducati for lousy bikes. Repair cost will be sky high, so rumours will spread about high costs of owning the bike...

Anyway, my bike is yet to be tuned properly, so I cannot comment on performance. :( I'm thinking of changing my spark plug cables, plug caps, and getting Irridium spark plugs, see if the bike runs better. Then, my carb needles seem to be worn out, so I'll get the carbs retuned at the same time.

A toyota can run at 18-20km/litre. My 6 yrs old XR4 runs at that rate so I'm definitely comfortable with Monster400's consumption.

Does anyone of you have panniers fixed? Does it affect the bike in anyway?

A paddock stand is about $100 to $125. Depends on how well is the finishing etc. It comes with either a V-support for those bikes with bobbins (usually the sports bikes) or a flat L plate so that the swingarm can be supported.

Some comes with wheels; some without. No real difference there when it comes to usage. Motorworld got the V-support ons .. nice.

Guys roughly what's the market price range for an FP M400? What problems should i look out for in the FP platers? My friend might want to sell hers to me if she finds a suitable replacement bike, the main thing is she only rides it like once every two months, what problems might this minimal use cause?
