Hi myxilplix.....bascially is the generator...did u change to '05 version ? all is it the updated version ?? Learn from oversea forum '04 generator failure will have to change engine (seen may pic, very badly damage once the generator gone). I've tried to check by the #VIN numbers wordwide by think nobody knows when KAWA start the update.

Yes..that's the one...condition good thru...but after learning about the generator issues, starts to get worry and i'm unable to check which version the generator belongs to...now just keep the rev low. I know KAWA engine are famous for noise...but i just can't figure out now is the noise normal or not....but i'm still happy with the bike.

U can check with myxiplix, he traded in the bike to Loois motor end of 2008. Not sure how it ended up at Excel. U can find ah tak to service the bike cos i think the bike was serviced by tak.

dun worry abt the generator thing, myx rode the bike for 4 yrs ! and he works out the bike as well

I was the 2nd owner of the bike. I bought it in 2006, first owner only did 9000+km in the first two years. I put on about 24-25k mileage on it before I traded it in to Looi's for my current '08. The generator has not been updated. When i first got the bike i was worried about it, but it stopped bothering me after awhile. I think the generator failures occured on early '04 bikes, and this bike is a later '04 bike so the risk is low.

 

Even if it does fail, can always pick up 2nd hand parts or engine nowadays, quite easy to find.

 

For my ex-bike, i don't know what Looi's or excel have done to it, but if it's not running nicely or not giving good mileage, throw a PC3 on it. Watch out for slight oil leak from the cam cover gaskets if you ride the bike really hard, like on track or high speed NSH. This is apparently a normal kawa thing, just be sure to wipe the oil off the fairing vents near the radiator in case it messes up the paintwork.

 

You might want to consider getting your suspension set up or changing the fork springs if the ohlins fork springs are still on the bike, since first owner and myself are pretty big sized.

 

I still miss that bike.

Both of you 2 (previous owner) big size....no wonder i felt the suspension is very hard for me...i'm small~medium size. Not sure if the spring is still on the bike...any idea how to check ? (other than open up).

Probably have to open up, but i'm guessing the springs are still in there. Last valve clearance and plug change was at 20k, you might wanna plan for that at 40k. Also the cam chain tensioner might need replacement from what i remember. Best to get your mech to check it out or see Ah Tak since he's familiar with the bike.

Had a BMC street on my 04, using BMC race on my 08 now. No complaints, i'm happy with BMC's quality, fitment and durability. Performance-wise cannot quantify because always installed with other items.

 

 

Just for everyone's info, it's taken over a year but pretty much all my parts off my '04 are sold.

 

Only thing i have left, which i found in my room the other day, is a pair of BRAND NEW OEM front brake rotors for the 06/07 zx-10r. Also fits 04/05, but these have black carriers instead of the gold ones. They're still wrapped in plastic, so good buy for anyone who needs to replace their rotors on a budget. Asking price $200.
