Yah... My fairings was taken down for checking of the tensioner and chain.

In the end, the mechanic said only the tensioner needs to be changed.

Guess that is why it is so expensive.

Thanks for your advice, Casper.

as i'm too a mechanical diot, care to share when do you need to change the tensioner? is there anything that u will notice?

Hi guys....

I have already completed my running in at 600 miles (1000km) and already preformed my first servicing at Everbright....

Everything looks ok but when I went home and 'studied' the bike manual, I realised that they didn't replace my gear oil. Hmmmm...can't blame them totally....They don't look like they know much about my bike..... As long as they don't spoil my bike, I'm happy....

That being said, when should I go for my next servicing?I have a friend who told me that I should bring my bike in at 3000km but the bike manual states that the next servicing should be done at 10000km.....This friend of mine also told me that we shouldn 't rely much on the bike manual as the bike manual is supposedly created for european-made models and not us asia-made models....Comments please seniors???And which bike shop is it reccomended for me to perform my servicing as I intend to bring my business there provided the mechs are at least in-the-know of my bike....

And I have added 1 neccessity and 1 accessory for my bike.....A frame slider and neon lights...Hehe.....The frame sliders I bought from Motoworld are not those Motovation ones as they do not have any. Its the S$60/- ones which do not look as stocky as the Motovation ones. And they don't have the ones for my bike.... Was given a similar ones which fits....Well some protection is better than none...hehe...Will scout around for the Motovation ones....And just to add, if you have to take out some piece of your frame to facilitate the sliders, it is recommended that you don't get the China Mechanic for Motoworld to do it.... He created too big a hole for a Blackbird when I was there and it didn't look nice.....The neon lights I had a fellow forummer Triple X fix it for me....Do check out his MO if you're interested....nice chap...

Try to do servicing (replacing engine oil & gear oil & oil filter) as often as possible if you have the $$ and time.

All moving parts in your new engine needs to run in and during this initial periods there are lots of wear.

After the first few servicing (3 or 4) then you can relax a bit and do servicing at a longer interval.

Oil change and replacing oil filter is very easy, why not DIY?

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

By frequent, what do you mean by that???

every 1000km??

If I could, I would have done it on my own....

Just that to open up the oil filter, I don't have the equipments....

and where do I dump the used EO after draining it??

If you don't mind, sir, probably you could teach me a thing or two in the maintenance of my bike.....I will not hesitate to call you 'shifu' or 'cikgu' if you willing to accept this relatively clueless disciple..

Did you use mineral for your first oil?

You may want to use semi-syn up till 3000km, semi again up till 5000km and fully syn every 5000km there after.

If I were you, I'll change at 500km, mineral again up to 1000km, semi up to 3000km, semi up to 5000km. Kiasu abit.

Sir, the first oil I believe would normally be mineral oil......I believe mine would be the same as when I took the bike, the EO was already poured in so my assumption would be mineral oil was filled into it.....

I've done 600 miles (1000km) and they have already filled it with fully synthetic oil.... Any comments on this???

Some 'ticking' sounds coming from the right. Idling not stable.

Normally this sound (evident for most yamaha engines) sets in after around 20,000km. If dun have, you're lucky.

Since already pour den forget it... Some pple straight away put semi syn too.. Just preference. Diff pple got diff views on breaking in the engine. Anyway, you may only tell the diff 5-10yrs down the road. Generally, Jap bikes very rugged one.. Should be no prob.

Well, I replaced my original EO at 200km with mineral oil, then again at 1,000km with mineral oil, and then at 3,000km with mineral oil again.

At 5,000km with semi syn and full synthetic oil at 10,000km.

BTW mineral oil is very cheap, no need to save on this. It is full synthetic oil that is expensive.

You can buy the special tool for the oil filter at any motortiam, very cheap one, can use for the life of your bike

In my opinion, DIY is still the best because don't have to worry that the mechanic over fill your EO or over tighten your nuts

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Yes, and the "ticking" sound is loud and very very evident (at least to me lah)...

Sure can hear it and you will definitely find it irritating like a few of us here and you will then surely wanna bring your ride for a check at the mechanic.

Anyway, Kazky, since yours is a new ride, it will be still very long before you will hear that "ticking" sound, unless you can ride up to-and-fro Hatyai about 10 - 15 times within a year to hit that "20, 000 - 20, 000+" km before you can "hear that ticking sound"... :)

currently im practice to use semi-sync oil & change every 3000km interval.

still save me some pocket $$. oil filter change every 6000km interval.

Yes, my friend also once told me, " It is better to go for cheaper EO and change at more regular basis, like every 2,500km - 3,000km, than to use very expensive EO and use it for like 10, 000km before you change it."

Right now, I am using fully syn EO and changing at about every 4,900+ km - 5,000km, EVEN THOUGH it is said that for fully syn EO, they can last up to 10,000km... But at least for me only lah, I find it quite rough to change gears after about 5,000km or so, so I always change EO at around 5,000km mark, which can be very "taxing" on the wallet. A bottle of fully syn EO costs about average S$20 - S$25. Multiply by 4 bottles. Plus change of oil filter which is about S$15 - S$20. One EO change can easily cost about S$100... :giddy:

Perhaps, I should do likewise like you, Mr mutant, use cheaper EO, semi-syn, then change every 2,900+ km - 3,000km. :)

im using badrall (if i not spell wrongly), 10bucks per bottle. can last till 3000km kick gear still quite smooth.

royal purple still the best (can last to 5000km with kick gear smoothly) but very hard to get. But my fren told me his FJR get very hot when using this oil, but i felt just normal.

Another EO is esso gold also not bad, but stupid thing price increase alot.

I agree with you, mutant.

Royal Purple is good but really hard to get at the shop in Tanjong Pagar Market, cos it is always out of stock at the shop. :)

Anyone ever heard of or use Rock Oil before?? :)

I have used this EO once when my friend was "helping us to get". So I actually bought 4 bottles to try out last year. Not too bad an EO too... :)

hmm, need to check out the price of EO though but i shd be following mr mutant style of using Badrall semi sync EO and change it every 3000km..its better to use cheaper EO and change it quite frequently rather than an EXPENSIVE ones but use it for a long time..must treat our bike like parts of our body also e.g too much junk food we also become junkie:cheeky:
