Found a 2002 Silver one owner FJR1300 going for 18.5K w/o ABS. Was the FJR introduced in 2001 or 2002 ? Feel that the price is kind of stiff. Would take the bike for 16 to 17 K but the mototiam would not bulge.

Anybody else keen ?

Just called HL to enquire about the arrival of my side pannier boxes.

Was told the shipment will arrive Spore only on 26 Dec.

Will need another couple of days from then before I can get mine installed.

Still have to lug my helmet around for another two weeks.

Anyone installed the wiremesh protector for the radiator?

Care to share where to get it installed and how much it cost?

Thanks in advance.

Hi to all, I m not a FJR rider but very keen to be 1 since the day they launched it, regret till today that I did not buy the FJ1200ABS and GTS1000.

$ is the main issue for not owning 1.

I am very worry that they might change the headlight and taillight design for the new model but every year, they release the same design (I think both lights are a bit primitive - sorry to those present owners), but after much consideration, I think they won't, just like the Vmax and hope by end of 05, $ is no longer a issue.

Some question I need any of the FJRian here to advise :

aa) Was told that FJR can hit 280km/hr (w/o pillion and panniers), is it true?

bb) What is Max speed with pillion and panniers?

cc) How stable when bike is at 220-250km/hr with panniers and pillion. feel like 80km/hr or Diving off from 3000ft?

dd) how comfortable it is after 1000km on it? Dead sleep, shops around, hungry or just fresh.

Many thanks.

My Friend, Base on the questions you asked...judging my ride on this bike.

aa) Went 250 with it but should be able to go further.

bb) depends on the weight of the pillion ? panniers will only cause the bike to swirl abit.

cc) Judging with pannier ... anywaything abit 200 its abit shaky.. ( maybe due to my tyres wearing off very soon)

dd) comfort wise... i you dun mind the wind it is good ... otherwise alternatively you can change a higher windshield.

Cheers

:thumb: Good question, it is not mentioned in my manual and i have never change 1 before, wonder does it mean that we don't hv to change it?

Timing belt needs to be replaced every 60,000km as recommended in the user manual for 4 valves BMW engine.

but i understand ours is a timing chain and is actually lubricated by the engine oil also, some people told me we should change it when it hits 150,000km. any comments?

As the saying goes, if it ain't broken, don't fix it.

Anway, 150,000km is a lot of kilometers and at that mileage, lots of other things may also need fixing. The main thing that would probably go wrong with a chain drive are the nylon guides & chain tensioner which are used to guide the chain. These would wear out and allow more chain slack causing chain rattle noise. Removing these items requires major dismantling of the engine top and in the process, the chain may as well be changed at the same time. Chain production technology has come a long way since the old simplex chain. Nowadays, the chain running the timing system would last a long long time.

The chain tensioner is also pressing the chain using oil pressure from the oil pump and loss of oil pressure after such long distances, would allow the tensioner to be "loose" and cause chain rattle noise. When this happen, then the oil pump needs to be replaced or worst, the engine bearings needs replacement. In such an event, a complete overhaul would be needed. This is may or maynot lead to the illumination of the oil pressure light on the instrument panel.

In order to prolong the evnetual occurence of such a problem, i.e. noisy chain, it would be adviseable to change the engine oil religiously and use a good quality oil & original filter. It is also not adviseable to use aftermarket air filter such as K&N which would allow ingress of very fine dirt particles into the engine system, causing wear of cylinder wall, rings and worst of all, in the oil and damaging the bearings which would eventually cause chain rattle. Other damages caused by the ingress of fine dirt particles would be the other sensors, i.e. air temp, O2, air flow sensor and other moving components ( throttle valve ) etc.

Just my 1cts worth.

Woh... Thats a very daring claim on your part....

Aint K&N suppose to be better in cleansing the air than original filters? I'm not saying what they say is 100% reliable but base on what did u make ur claim?
