Anyway, the main modification for 05 model should not be the paint, the tail light design.. It should be the side panniers locking mechanism!!!

Biting on the fray of my hair, I muse upon the way to find the oasis of evermore beyond the vertical horizon, I shall join the windupdeads in owl city, neither my safetysuit nor my red jumpsuit apparatus can save me, cuz I mistook a death cab for cutie in plain white T's...

Aint K&N suppose to be better in cleansing the air than original filters? I'm not saying what they say is 100% reliable but base on what did u make ur claim?>>

Pick up a K&N filter and put it against a light source. If you can see holes where the light is coming through, these holes that you see would allow dirt particles to come through too !

Another check is to take a look at your throttle housing after using the K&N filter for a couple of thousand kilometers....... if you stick your finger in throttle/butterfly valve area and swipe it across the housing and find that your fingers are met with fine black dirt, this would mean that dirt is coming through the famous K&N filter.

Try the same test on an original filter and you will not be able to accomplish any of the above.

Yes, I agree that K&N filter allows more air flow but it also allow more dirt through. It is not a claim but a fact. I have used a K&N filter before and after a while, come to realise that the filter is screwing up my engine. I would think that an oiled foam filter used on motorcross bikes have better protection than a K&N filter.

1 bottle of shaft oil cost around $15 or less and can be used for 05 x oil change.

Must as well change it. I changed mine after every trip. Rem to wipe the drain plug for the shaft as well.

It pretty easy to DIY using the correct tool and a funnel.

Do rem to lube ya driveshaft splines.

Oya 4got 2 ask u guys:confused: Do u all go back 2 HL 4 servin of e FJR?:sian:

Frm wat i noe, they charge v high on each servin:cry:

If u all dun go HL, den w u guys go.:help:

I wanted to go to HL for my 1st servicing. But they do not hv an appointmnet system. 1st come 1st serve. I was too busy so just went to my dealer. However, my dealer do not have drain washer, so just change engine oil, oil filter & shaft oil. Din replace drain washer. The dealer do not hv normal oil, so used semi-syn Esso oil. Trying to go to HL for the 2nd service this week. Will change to syn oil.

I'm not much of a DIY person. Dun have much tools also. Not sure whether I need special tools to tighted the drain nuts for engine oil, shaft oil & oil filter. Do I need special tools for the spark plugs?

Would be good if fellow riders could share a reliable mechanic.

Why are people who ride motorcycles called bikers and people who ride bikes called cyclists?

I need to get some spares for the coming trip. My friend recommended Auto Machinery. I made some enquiries. Air filter cost $40, clutch lever cost $60 before GST.

Call HL oso. Clutch lever cost $69, break lever cost $59 before GST.

Think will get from Auto Machinery.

I'm thinking of getting the following spares for the 12 days trip:

Air Filter

Spark Plugs

Clutch Lever

Break Lever

Anything else must bring?

try to change the plugs yourself before the trip so that you know you can do it...else bring plugs also no use...

for my bike(Fazer), I need a wrench to remove the plugs cos of the limited space.

Tyre repair kit, throttle cables, extra bolts, nuts and screws, some cable ties.

Look through your tool kit and stock up on those sizes that you do not have... I think Yammies do not provide size 8 and also aleen keys.

hi chung ,

dave here , u need not to use a tool to tighten the oil filter , just ur pair of hands , to hand tight will do. as for the tools for plugs yes u need a size 10 to open up the tank , then i think is a size 12 for removing the T bar lastly u are ready to unscrew the 4 plugs , use a long socket for ur tool to open the plugs cos it's 3.5" deep . pls takenote of that .

chung!

how's the fjr? is it really very hot? how's the bike's performance? surprised or expected?

I'm really not expert in this sort of things lah.

All I can say is it exceed most of my expectations and is enjoyable to ride.

Didn't really surprise me as I do expect a lot from one of the most expensive Yamaha production bike.

Powerful & sounds cool too (the engine roar).

I've been clocking ave 17km/l.

Could be as low as 14+km/l if I throttle A LOT (on NSHW of course).

Then again, its also really too new to comment.

One of my expectation is trouble free riding (with routine maintenance of course).

Only time can tell.

Yes its a bit hot. But fortunately I nvr stuck in a bad jam yet.

It doesn't make any difference whether a motorcyclist has the right-of-way or not, the rider is the one most likely to get hurt.

Would be good if fellow riders could share a reliable mechanic.

You just need a 17mm spanner and a filter "Cup" for opening the oil filter to change the engine oil and shaft oil. Everythings are outside your bike and very accessible, don't have to go "under" your bike to do it.

You are the most reliable mechanic yourself.

PS: You need a plastic funnel and some newspapers so as not to dirty the floor
