Problem with my bike.... again....

My bike stalled twice when i traveled from Changi to Jurong along the PIE just now.

1st encouter:

Traveling speed is ~ 100kph. Suddenly, I felt the slight engine brake, I clutch in and rev but no response so I know the engine died. I free wheelie to the road shoulder, put to neutral in the meanwhile and start the engine before coming to a stop. Managed to light up and I continued.

2nd encounter:

Cornering slowly at expressway exit to Clementi Ave 6. Engine died again. No time to kick neutral so I clutch in and start but NO response from the starter motor. Came to a stop, kick neutral try but still cannot. The symptoms are identical as when u try to start the bike with the engine-kill-switch in the OFF position. Then I put the engine kill switch to OFF, then back to ON and try, light up and I came back home.

Things I did / happened "out-of-the-ordinary" this morning:

1) Traveled at ~150kph for about 30 kilometers. (I haven't traveled at this speed for quite a while, at least not for such a long distance so I consider it to be "abnormal)

2) The bike was in the rain for 2 hours or so. ( I always cover my bike but today no time)

Suspected causes:

1) Moisture trap in my Engine Start switch assy causing a jump in the engine-kill-switch?

2) The Throttle Position Sensor issue? (Gen 1 recall, haven't change cos no prob so far)

3) Water leaking into my fuel tank? (Unlikely because the starter motor shud still crank)

I also did a valve clearance, timing chain + tensioner replacement, coolant change by Meng Tong bout a month ago. Ever since, there is an intermediate high rate squeaking sound from the right side when the bike is at idle (but not during warm up). However, engine hasn't stalled till today.

Thanks for reading. Anyone knows whats wrong?

confirm its your 'engine-kill-switch'. happen to my other bike before.

Bro, something is wrong. Go back to the shop which you bought the bike from. The shop should have given you "warranty" for a month or so depending on which shop. But dun hope so much, bike shop's warranty always come with tons and tons of conditionssss.....

Take care and enjoy your FJR!

Hi everyone, juz want to clarify..I juz bought my dream FJR 2nd hand for just 4 days...im juz wondering abt the ABS red light, after the ignition have been switched on and start the engine, does the red ABS light suppose to stay on or suppose to go off??? cos when im riding, the light still stays on..is it normal or sumting's wrong?

Ask ur mechanic to check ur throttle sensor too. The same thing happened to me. Had it changed twice. It cost abt $150++. Its a small coloured black thing on the right side of ur FI....

Do u need to pry open ur front small compartment or can be easily open when u switch on ur inginition? Try checking ur fuse, behind the left hand compartment on the dashboard. Green coloured. Its connected with ur ABS.

Hi bro groverdatz....

The things the good pple here listed below are the things that u shd do to ensure ur bike is running ok.. Also since ur bike bee only 5-6 days, u shd bring it back to ur shop coz its still under warranty and ask them to solve the prob for u.

But the 1st thing u gotta check out urself is ur REAR brake pedal whether its binding or not. Binding means when stepping on ur brakes, it does not come up to its original position.. A quick fix usng WD40 shd solve the problem.

And if this still doesn't help u will need to check ur ABS fuse already..

Hope it helps..

ABS light should be off. Perhaps you should bring it to a reputable shop to check. It may be out of sync

I have had this on a couple of cars. Usually it indicates some issue with the ABS system. One of the most common things that go out is the sensor. You may be able to get an error code from your ECU/on-board computer. This would indicate the issue. I hope this helps!

Definitely not normal bro..mayb wiring or other fault..must go check to yr regular mechanic..

for used bike warranty issue i mean, here goes my story. b4 i bought the bike, the boss told me he gave me 1 MTH WARRANTY for ANY FAULT. i rode the bike i found out that its quite difficult for me to shift to lower gear..especially from 3rd to 2nd..and 1st gear..but from 1st 2nd n 3rd.no prob..since this is the first time im riding FJR and not so familiar bout these bike..i dun care much..but its becoming worst..so i returned to the shop..they dismantle my clutch n found out that my clutch plate already 'koyak'..i tot its free might as well get it fix:cheeky:..hmm...u know wat..i have to pay $200 bucks..but labour free this is wat the boss told me..eh...i tot got 1 mth warranty?so this is so called 'used bike warranty' from motorshop..and the best part im not sure if the clutch really cost $200 or actually im paying for the whole cost..

Err.... salah right? What shop is that? Where got ABS only one wheel wan? (other bros, correct me if I'm wrong).

Mine's mfg 2004 and has ABS both wheels. I even seen the rear ABS when my mech dismantle my wheel.

Especially the rear - I used the ABS most often.

Could it be your rear ABS is out of syn and thus not working?

So next time (if ever buy used bike again) muz ask "Wor Ren Di for what? Parts or labor?" :cheeky:

:( on shops that are not so transparent.

I ever let one shop (which I've not used before, but a fren did) chief mech to change my rear pads. My wheel can hardly free-roll using hand. Mech insisted "it is like that". He tested my FJR, came back, I touch the brake plate and burned my fingers - friggin' hot.

Following, he removed the pads saying it is burnt! :dot: He went back to the workshop, *heard grinding sound*, came back with a new set. After fixing, the rear wheel can roll SLIGHTLY better. Again, he said "it is like this, ride a while it will be better" :faint:

Having a bad feeling, I rode my bike to my regular shop. My mech told me the pad used was not meant for FJR and replaced with a after-mkt pad meant for FJR. I've to pay $25 (first shop) + 20 (my mech). After the new pads are done, braking power resumes and superb!

Hey Kazky,

I am not sure about the brake binding, but aren't we supposed to keep all kinds of lubricants away from the pads? So, I did not understand about using WD40 on the rear brakes. I guess you must mean on the calipers, and not near the disc or pads themselves?

No no noooo!!.... NEVER put lubricants even at ur calipers and of coz NOT the brake disc unless u wanna see the Almighty One earlier haaha..

Kidding ya! :cheeky:

As bigcow said YES, i meant the brake PEDAL where u will find the joint or 'hinge'.. this mite be stuck, so WD40 will smoothen its movement.

Pardon my grey explanation b4 but in NO WAY u shd ever put any grease or lubes at ur brake calipers, pads and disc..

Also, if you happen to use wax spray or spray detailer on your tail or fenders, be sure to use a cloth to shield the wheels and discs from falling wax/detailer mist.

If according to the manual it means, Engine Trouble. but its kinda grey lah coz engine trouble could mean lots of things e.g

1. ABS not responding

2. Brake binding

3. ABS fuse problem

4. etc etc

So usually i go to fix the no.2 prob first.
