So sorry to know such unfortunate thing happen to you, hope your pannier box can be repair :weep:

SKM? you mean Seng Kwang Metal Industrial Co?

Wonder how they can repair your box with stainless steel?

Please keep us updated on your repairs if possible, can?

U know our box locking thing, there's a female counter part riveted to the box.. Bascially they cut of part of it along with the latch and replace with a metal piece. They have to fabricate an identical one that they cut out den rivet back in.. of cuz, they have to drill a hole right through...

More info on the deaded "ticking"...

I've asked the guys at FJRowners to point me to a video that actually captures the ticking sound.. but for now:

"If you *really* can't hear it, you don't have it. The tic is unmistakable, loud and DISTINCT. The Hole Shot video with audio captures the sound of a ticker on start-up. After warm, the "rattle" effect goes away, and it settles into a distinct tic..tic..tic..tic..sound above the drone of the engine and can be heard from 50-60 feet away when the bike is idling on the centre stand. It also "goes away" if the revs are brought up slowly, and then comes back like a rattle at 3000-3500 rpms. If you were to ride without a helmet or were to wear a shorty, you'd be shocked as to how loud it sounds, bouncing off the pavement. It does *not* go away "under load." "

Why does it tick? Here is the famous Warchild demostrating...

With my helmet on, no way I am going to hear anything

Think I am going to try to hear mine before I put on my helmet tomorrow

I am at Bukit Panjang, care to meet up and compare? :weep:

Hi All,

Does any one tried out the top speed of the FJR? How fast can it go? I managed to clock about 190km/h on mine. Dare not to push it further cos bike only 1 month old with mileage at 1200km (not Fully run in yet).

I managed to speak to one expat who is riding the same bike. He told me this bike capable to hit 230km/hr. Any thing above that to 250km/h, bike will wobble.

Any comments ?? Thanks.

No need. Tickers can be heard with the mainstand on, just like in the video....

No need to wear helmet at all....

Bad news... I got a ticker...   when we all figure out who has and who hasn't want to go for a Mass Order Valve and Valve guide change?

frankly speaking, i'm not going to worry myself too much, even if there really is a fault with the valves, think i'm gona wait till the valve totally fails...even my fren's 2005 FJR has the ticking sound, so is it really a problem or it is normal? time will tell..

Actually, my mech told me its not really a problem. Its really the ang mohs. I'm not discrediting their work but for those not so rich pple, as long as the tick dun cause too much of a trouble, I'm gonna live with it.. Those valves and valve guides dun come cheap.

Anyway, they said one of the earlier symptoms is poor fuel consumption.. Thats why i monitor my fuel consumption very closely.

Talked to Apollo of BikenScooter today.

I have decided to take apart my engine and let him check it out. He will measure the tolerances and clearance etc. on the valve. Any findings I will inform you guys.

Will do this in Feb or March (when I have the time to take a few days off... I will be fixing a lot of my mods while they are opening the engine) . Will come post pictures of my FJR's engine in little pieces for everybody to enjoy then.

Haha... sounds like overkill, I know, but that's how I treat my bikes... super kia soo kia si one...

Easyrider_Bandit,

I would like to witness this very rare and educational event of seeing the FJR strip down, please keep me and everyone interested inform about the exact date and time you will be bringing your bike over to Bike N Scooter for the job.

I am serious and will take leave for a day or two if necessary to learn from them.

It will happen in Feb or March, but most likely early March because late March I going on a tour. I'll be fixing my fork braces, handlebar risers at the same time.

I will give everybody at least a week advance notice.

While you are at it, you might want to source for heat insulating material to redo or improve the original heat insulation under your petrol tank

That is the next thing I would like to do to my bike but I have yet to hunt for the suitable material.
