I was eyeing the z1000 (old model) for a long time, but recent trips up north exposed me to alot of wind blast even with the windshield on my super4, that's why I am hesistant. Experienced z1000 riders, please advice.

Hi all Zed1 gang!

Hi there friedfishz,

Ridding the naked beast will expose you to wind blast but can be overcome by a aftermarket shield. Personally i ride with powerbronze wind shield and it just divert the blast above the helmet when i crouch at above 170+.

Hey Ah Fai, hope you still remember me from the Bukit Indah outing. Just like to find out something from you, or whoever willing to answer. How is the aerodynamic of z1000? As in, when you travel at above 150kph, do you feel the impact of the wind directly on you?

I was eyeing the z1000 (old model) for a long time, but recent trips up north exposed me to alot of wind blast even with the windshield on my super4, that's why I am hesistant. Experienced z1000 riders, please advice.

like others hv said, u need aftermarket windshield to provide u protection from e wind blast. once u hv it, its superman style from there.

as u know it a naked bike, things regarding e wind blast will always be there.

tanks guys, motovation, the one ur saying about, is it able to be fix on a s4?

Eh super4 i dun think so. Becos ur front headcowl no support with original shield like the Z1. If not you can get the GSR600 headcowl if you want to try. Might be able to fit, will need to mod the bracket yourself. Its only at $100.

Hi guys, as some of you may have read the issue I post in Iron Horse, I think it will be best to post here too just to share it with you guys

The issue is the twisting of fuel line may decrease the fuel flow to the engine.

2 weeks ago after I replace my spark plugs & all the normal servicing staff, on last tuesday I went for a morning ride in Malaysia, when I reach 215km/h, my turtle starts to jerk forward & backward, I imediately close trottle & retry to hit 215km/h mark, the same provlem arise again.

Thats is strange to me cause I was able to hit above 250km/h. That time was still Chinese New Year so my prefer bike shop is closed, so I did post the issue in the Iron Horse thread, with their help, I start to presume that its either 1) TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is out or because 2) I replace a BMC air filter thus result in more air to fuel ratio = lean mixture.

Well, that was what I think through discussion. WW did enlighten me that Unity opens on Friday to have a check.

I did went down to Unity on Friday. I told Ah Siong about the problem, and surprise~ to his experience, the main problem is that the fuel-line from the fuel tank to the engine may be twisted~!!

So we dismantle the fuel tank & the fuel-line somehow is really a little bit bend, Ah Siong able to twist it back to such a way that it looks ok to us. And to my satisfraction & surprise that I can feel more torque, especially in the mid-range.

He explain to me that in the past, a Kawasaki biker do ask him (Ah Siong) for help, that biker has the same case as mine, which hit 220km/h then cannot hit higher speed. By studying the case & past experience, he found out that the fuel line is seriously twisted, so bad that he need to order a new one. When the fuel-line is twisted, the fuel flow lesser than it expected, so there will be lesser fuel into the fuel-air mixture, thus produce a jerking

by the way, a 6 inch fuel line cost him S$300 plus :help:

But my case is lucky that the fuel line is still in good condition, the reason of twisting is may be because of the replacement of spark plugs, where I must open the fuel tank & dismantle the fuel line, but by reinstall the fuel tank, the fuel line was not properly lay & there is a twist occur.

So guys, remember when you have to dismantle the fuel tank, when reinstalling back, do take care the fuel line is properly lay. And I thank to Ah Siong, he look into the case & remedy it for me Free of Charge.

Then last night I went to do a blast again to really see if the problem have solve or not, and to my satisfaction, the propblem have solve, I able to hit 241km/h without the jerking experience again, so that most likely prove that the twist of fuel-line does affect the fuel-flow to the engine, especially high rev/speed.

:thumb: write up...

yr write up is also one of e MAIN reason I never try to open up n change my spark plugs myself.

last time wanted to do grounding by a forumer, but while trying to open up fuel tank, e forumer also dont know how to open e fuel tank. Made my decision to do grounding at shop although its a bit ex. Went unity, same story as told by ah siong n ah fai, since then never open up e fuel tank myself. Only open by professionals... :thumb:

Well, consider opening of fuel-tank to perform replacement of spark plugs, I will try to replace it when it reach maximum life span~~

I heard from a chief mechanic about the spark plugs replacement, he told me that a good spark plugs can last me good for 10,000km range, maximum to 15,000km mark~

Anyway, hope write-up can be useful for you guys
