hi all guys...

just want to know how V4 engine work?

how does the engine oil go to the engine?

and wat is the pro and con of the V4 engine...

is V4 engine suitable for long distance?

how is the fuel comuption?

wat are the usall problem?

heard from my friend who riding it tat the retifire also spoilt?

is it true?

hi salesman,

well...there was a thread in another section (Bike Bytes if not wrong) thant talked about this awhile back, you may wana do a search for it for more In depth infos on how different engine configs works, including Vee engines. There is even a animation depicting how the pistons move in relation to the crank.

anyway to answer yr ques, eng oil goes in pretty much the same way an Inline4 does..thru a oil filler cap on the right hand side engibe cover. er....am i stating the obvious? basicallu its the same as any other 4 strokes...oil is pumped up from the lower oil sump by pistons operation.

Pros-- Vee engines are generally more compact Widthwise, especially so for a Vtwin. Been compact widthwise means the bike chasis can be built more compact and improve cornering clearance. In short, the bike looks less fat from the front. Vee config engines can oso sit lower in the chasis providing lower C of G which improves handling.

A Vees generally produce more torque and midrange power which is delivered in a very linear and way unlike an Inline4 which peak power suddenly 'hits' u when a certain high RPM is reached. The way the power is delivered oso aids in better traction at the rear wheel. As for why so, u hav to look into the Bike Bytes topic.

now, a v4 generally exhibits all the traits of the above with the added benefit of been a multi-4 cylinder..which kinda improves the topend power and topspeed. Honda's MotoGP formula is based on the fact that its engineers hold a strong believe that to win any competitive motorcycle racing, you have to build a multi cylinder (4 or more) and it has to be a V-config. there u have it..the pros.

Cons ---- Vee engines can fry ur balls when u are stuck in traffic. it runs hotter when on standstill or crawling speeds and on a hot afternoon if u wearing bermudas....it feels like suana down there. Normal..unless u see smoke or coolant spewing.

maintenance is a nightmare for most mechanics as the V config dun provide easy assess to sparkplugs and engine internals. sparkplugs for rvf is about twice the price of normal ones.

talking about Rectifers (not retifires) ...this has nothing to do with if the bike is v4 anot but yes RVfs (infact, most honda bikes) have common rectifier problems. But if u use the newer generation recfifiers with metal cooling fins and a good battery, it should be ok..only the previous gen rect sucks.

one more thing...all these talk of a v4 having more torque, traction, midrange power...of cause u understand that the Rvf is shrink down version of the famous RC45 (SBK, Colin Edwards' bike in 97)..so dun expect to buy one and think that it has monstrous power.

shay... long time dun have Rvf outing liao :sian:

aiyo..... we tried to organise one for the fireworks last week (read above),

no one put name! end up me and DLM went only.

and later on met up with Ken, Ise and Koyok.

But then hor... if u notice, all the regular rvfians had either sell off or upgraded liao. thaz y these days cant really get a "RVF" outing anymore. but some hardcore Ex-rvfians are still meeting up regularly with us, so DO join us for these sessions everyone.

there is another fireworks outing this weekend. watch this space for more info!
