Why do you call it a pain in the ass?

Have you ridden it? Do you own one? Do you commute in one? Have you played with the datalogger?

Are you trying to be a PITA?

Riding the 1098 and the F4 1000 are not similar in my opinion. The MV has a much more aggressive position. The transmission is better on the MV. The suspension feels better on the MV. (slightly softer or more compliant for street rideing than the 1098). The big twin vibrates and booms. The MV purrs. As you work your way up the power band the booming turns into a pleasant drone. The MV starts to scream. (I love that scream more than anything else.)

Except at idle, you can't hear the dry clutch anyway. I assume it is the sound of the clutch you prefer. The brakes on the 1098 are scarey great. The brakes on the MV are merely great.

You can ride about 96km further on the MV before you run out of gas.

The MV makes its power above 9000. The Ducati makes it everywhere. Rolling on the throttle, say to pass slower moving traffic, in any of the first three gears will pull the front wheel off the ground on the Ducati, not so on the MV. ( I have the 41 tooth sprocket)

The 1098 thing is at a different dimension. Its light weight has one throwing the thing into corners. The booming 70mm Termi's deliver the most unearthly,

And, now for a little simile. The 1098 is like a hot date from the bad side of town. She is hot, loud, and likes it a little rough. The MV is very refined, sexy and smooth.

The 1098 is just starting and there will be lot's of upgrades and evolution in the next coming years.

The only advantages I see with the 1098 is the torque and that it's narrower and a bit more comfortable than the MV.

FYI :

The 1098 are having a lot of problems, specially in the US they have a rather large stalling problem. Also, I think Ducati have just recalled some 1098's for possible faults. I noticed also that the craftsmanship is inferior in some details like weldings, etc.

I would recommend to wait for Ducati to solve these issues and then get one

I would love to get the 1098RR instead of the 1098S

So how is the power output compaired to the F4?

The 1098 (1098 and 1098S have identical engines) has a lot of torque! Power comes out rough and starting at 4000RPm it feels like an animal. Contrary to other twins that I testrode, the 1098 pulls untill the rev limiter kicks in at 10700Rpm. So it does have that endrush feeling like on a 4 cyl, but on a 4 cyl the feeling of the endrush is more intense because of the increasing engine sound, where the twin allready barks from idle.

Because of the torque and I guess it's weight, the 1098 lifts it's nose comming out of corners, when you wack that throttle open. so really spectacular experience!

top speed of the F4 is higher! the 1098S hits 286km/u (on GPS) and that is what most jap 4 cyl sportsbikes hit on a GPS. It does hit it's rev limiter in 6th. So when you change sprockets, top speed could go up, but it would accelerate slower.

So what is the best bike? hard to tell. They are different!

The MV has the best looks (but that's a personal opinion) and the best overall finish. But the 1098S is also spectacular to ride at low speeds, you don't need the endrush to have fun due to the torque.

These two machines are both so good it is only natural they will have such comparisons. I am sure there will be guys who buy the 1098 who will go to an MV and of course vice versa and then there are those poor twisted souls who will buy both.

I must admit being a long time Ducati guy, I was tempted to jump on the 1098 bandwagon, but when I sat down and did the logical thinking thing, I really have the MV sorted now, and it just keeps getting better. So I will fence sit for a year or two.

I can allways ride my Friend's anyway. Interesting thing is after a comparison with my bike and the 1098, two friends with 1098

The white F4312 still in the upstairs showroom at Mah's is indeed the Sophia Loren / Charlotte Rampling of high-end streetbikes.

I believe thats the only one left with an S version which is going for a special discounted price

Hey ayuluv,

You have not been around here for quite awhile isn't it. Welcome back.

Hmmmm.... last phrase, if i love MV i hate ducati....

Not for me.... I like MV and DUCATI...

Other than these 2, I still have not set my liking of what to own if I were to change bike.

Cheers!

YOOOOOOOOOOO WHERE HAVE YOU BEEEEENN!!

BTW 99% of ppl will not have any hatred against 2 of these excellent machines.

The only problem they will face is to choose between this 2.

Like i mention earlier its up to individual to have their dream bikes.

But i will choose MV over the Recent Ducati ; 1098S or 1098.

I am not really sure if Minerva will be bringing the RR version but if they do .... I would love to have that.
