was reading BIKE (June 2004 issue) ...

it has a review on Aprilia Caponord, BMW R1200GS, Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom, and the bike you missed out, KTM 950 Adventure

some extract ...

"the v-strom and caponord are pure road bikes with some trail bike styling ...

ktm sticks it to them rigidly - you really could take this thing just about anywhere ...

bmw tears up the rule book and goes it own way"

if you are more a road person, then v-strom and caponord

more trail then ktm and as the mag, it is "simpler and easier to repair if breaks."

GS, an all rounder and "more comfortable and probably more reliable"

How about Triumph Tiger ? One of the few bikes with 3 cylinders. One of the best looking enduro, and much under-rated. Unlike the GS, over-rated

hhmmm, for a person to try all da bikes said above is quite impractical right? unless he/she is a magazine bike wrecker or something like dat. but of coz if u compare da powerwise as stated on their specs, then its a different story. but even da specs most of da time do not states correctly. so then how to compare truthfully? any ideas frm da pros?

Surely, in the hands of a highly skilled rider, that can even be done on a R1.

I have never seen a vstrom near any of the local trails. Let's be honest, it's unlikely to find a local vstrom rider attempting that as it could be a very expensive trail should he drop his bike. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/udaloy/Emoticons/smirk.gif

A Vstrom1k rider was contemplating to do that at TM but a mad nut beat him to it in a TDM900. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/udaloy/Emoticons/jawdrop.gif

oh enuff already....

anyways,i think the title of the topic is misleading...it should read trailies..and you left-out Africa Twin also known as XRV750.

And the duc is not even a trailie...it is in par with TDM900.more of sports touring machine with an attitude.

Enduro is still best to be related with thumpers...enduros are somewhat equals to the term endurance in the extreme condition of terrain.now you don't want to see your $40grand GS in that state do you?or even could you handle in that situation with it.Stop looking at magazines or the net and feeling feeling that you ride one of the BMW,you are considered enduro riders as those ang mohs have done very much on almost any type of condition on a BMW.

Mostly these bikes listed above are justified in the best ways by our local community in touring and we just leave the dirty job,to their sidebikes,a real dirtbike.

I may not be aware of our local boys riding GS,V-strom,or even big KTM 950adv doing local or across the border trails, but i know that for a fact, some of our local AT riders are having fun with their bikes on the local trail and getting dirty...:thumb:

ducati multistrada ds 1000?

so....who is the judge?

The readers here who maybe reads from the magazines or the internet?or those who have have sworn to preach over the GS as it is a well-known good looking overpriced machine without even owning or riding one?

Even if let's just say this rider ever rode all the bike listed, can he be the judge?Different riders have different views and opinions and likings.

At least if you have 3 riders who have rode all the bike listed above for at least a period of time to genuinely give a comparison, then all may give a rating for each of the bike, then do the comparison...then i think its justified.:dozed:

For me,i think whatever in my pockets will justify on what bikes is best.no point owning one of the best super machine but on high debt of instalment that still left to pay and end up letting go at garage sales C.O.I.i think that's just temporary excitement just so to let people know that oh,you use to ride one of those..
