Oh,

Some guy on Ebay just stripped an entire DNA down and is selling parts, you guys might want to take a look. I trying to get the right hand controls, as it has the light switch in it.

Anyway, anyone heard of the Gilera DNA rear carrier? What is it? A rack to put luggage etc.? Selling on Ebay...

Cheers...

P.S. Hey, anyone going to do any work on the DNA? I really need to get the fuel tank issue sorted out... 5 litres is too little!!!

Just out of curiousity, is there anyway I can improve braking on my front brakes? Over-sized front disc rotor? And can I clean my caliper with WD40?

Thanks guys!!!

Dan, cleaning the calipers exterior will not improve anything at all. Think along the lines of the brake pads. Bearing in mind, performance brakes do have metallic compund that will pit your rims and is impossible to remove. Look at the back rims of my car and you will understand.....

Yeah...me partying for 2 days continuous...damn....my hols just ended officially today.... start work Tuesday....ARRGHH!@

Yeah man, the partying are officially over for 2005, time to get back to serious work, sad, last day of festivities! Good to start a new year though.

Anyway, the Ebay sales are all based in England, they selling the whole leader engine at a starting bid of 8.35 pounds, but shipping for a 43 kilo engine block will be a bomb though!

Cheers...

Hey guys,

Happy New Year to you all! Just got back from a whole night of partying! Ha ha, anyway, Randy, thanks for adjusting the ratio for me. I had to do it again this morning as I realise the rpm is still too high, it only goes down when the bike is on the it's two wheel's, and not on main stand.

NO! u cannot use WD40 to clean yr brakes unless u wan to have less braking power of cos... there is a special brake rotor cleaning compound made by motul... can be found at motorworld

Actually, you don't really need to clean the rotors if the pads are "cleaning" it effectively... I think Dan feels his rotors are rusting?? A fine grade sandpaper will do the job just nice. Dan, care to clarify more?

I dun think the stock disc will rust. Its stainless (however, some stainless disc DO rust, but doesn't seemed to be the case on a gilly). Its just that he prolly felt his brakes losing its 'bite' hence felt like cleaning it with WD-40.

Because of the brake dust, the brakes will improve or rather, regain its biting power once you get rid of the dust residue settled on the brake pads.. Although in theory, the brake disc should be able to self-clean... I've found that it always helped when I give my brakes a thorough wash. But only lasted for awhile before it craps again.. ha.

Daniel, there's only a SINGLE make of oversized disc to be found on the market for DNA. Unless u modify from some other existing ones. Which is hard because of the large mouting holes positions. The oversized disc kit is from Braking. It improves brake tremendously. But at a price—$300+++.. And Singapore doesn't have it (as far as I know). As for wave rotors like mine are stock sized... Doesn't improve much except for looks.. There're 2-3 brands of wave rotor though..

My SGD$0.02. Cheers

No, it is not rust but more of the feel of my brakes now. I find like my brake levers have too much free play. And I need a hell of alot of wrist power to get the braking power I need sometimes.

Anyway, I found a red DNA at farrer road macdonalds today, with BMW logos, left the usual note. Hope he will join us soon.

Cheers guys...

flush my brakes? Okay, I guessed it was that too. Roughly how much does it cost to get the whole job done?

Cheers...

Actually you can try remove your caliper and spray wd40 onto the brake pistons outer surface(which is exposed after pushing ur brake pad away),after which u push the piston back into the caliper.pump the master cylinder till it extends out evenly and followed by cleaning the whole caliper with brake cleaner. This should help get back the 'feel' as b4.

If the problem still persists,u can actualli try to purchase the repair kit for the master reservoir and the master cylinder kit and replace it.After which u can procceed to fill up with new brake fluid.i would recommend motul and repsol brake fluid.

Having said that, good brake pads like braking, ebc and carbone loraine actually stops the bike well as they bite well when braking.

Last but not least do check your brake disc for minimal thickness as a worn out disc mite cause this problem.Semi floaters and full floaters offer great stopping power too.But also require care and attention to it.

hope all this helps. :thumb:

Nice tips for full servicing of your brakes... Short of taking the pistons out and changing the o-rings nia.. haha. If so, can be considered overhaul oredi..

But anyway, full floating or semi floating discs doesn't aid braking power one leh... They're designed in such a way so as it won't warp when under tremendous heat generated from hard (track) riding...

In my humble opinion, to improve your braking, more importantly is the disc size, material of both brake pads and disc, calliper pots/ design & brake pump piston-calliper size ratio/ design etc...

cheers all!

Bro,

I experienced the same problem some time back.

Gotta press the brake lever real hard to get bite. Even then, the bite is not strong - the bike still moves.

I went down to Taihin. The guy bled the brake for me and adjusted some stuff. Now it's slightly better. :cheeky:

Thanks...

Will be heading down to the bike shop to flush my brake fluid and change it. Should be alot better after that. I just changed the brake pads not so long ago...

Cheers...

There are no brand new DNA's in Singapore. ALot of people have searched in vain before you came along!

Your best option now is a 2nd hand one!

Cheers
