today at Motorworld i saw a jacket which looks like the below. Looks very nice - grey & black color scheme. It comes with all the hard armours - spine, shoulder , elbow & even ribs. I am reaally impressed. The material used is combination of mesh & schoeller keprotec. This combination is better than the cordura/mesh combination many times. Below is a extract from the manufacturer of this material. Its similar to kevlar aramide material used in making bullet proof vest.

schoeller®keprotec®: The extreme one

Profile:The aramide-fabric with space technology. Five times stronger than steel, gram for gram. Extremly tear and abrasion resistant. Heat- restistant and durable. Comfortable and easy to care for.

Areas of use:

Motorcyclist’s protective clothing, gloves, occupational safety, ski sports, snowboarding, footwear, accessories, mountain sports, cycling/ mountain-biking, streetwear.

For:

Trim and base material.

---------------------------

The plus point about this jacket is it got rib armour - even the more expensive jackets such as alphinestar & Dainese & Spidi dun have such rib armour. I had a rib fracture accident before - and ribs are very small & fragile bones. They 're easy to fracture & makes it painful for you to lie down or breath hard or even sneeze. Furthermore, its got schoeller keprotec materialwhich is 5 times stronger than stainless steel ;weight for weight. And speaking about durability, i personally owns a rstaichi 100% mesh jacket for 1 year. After throwing inside washing machine for washing machine every week for 1 year - there is no damage or broken sewing at the seams.

http://www.rs-taichi.com/main/rsj223black.jpg

The below details extracted from RStaichi website:-

â—†Heavy-duty polyester with stretch mesh material outer shell construction.

â—†Coolmax inner lining, keeps dry and comfortable in the summer season riding.

â—†Shoeller keprotec on shoulder and elbow for extreme tear and abrasion resistance.

â—†Removable CE approved armor on shoulders, elbows and PU vented foam padding on back. (Shoulder armor are adjustable)

â—†EVA foam padding for shoulders, elbows, collarbone, ribs, waist, and protection rubber padding on back neck.

â—†Wind stop inner jacket equipped.

â—†Shoeller Reflex reflector panels on back for increased visibility in night time.

â—†Adjuster on under sleeve and forearm for better fit to fix elbow armors.

â—†Waist adjuster for better fit.

â—†Neoprene lined collar.

â—†Belt loop connection tab on back.

PS: even the above stated rib armour is made of foam, i hand feel it - its pretty hard similar to foam in yr bike helmet.

Guess what guys, i am going to save up to buy this jacket - forget about Rjay.

I rather spend more & buy something that 100% proven to meet my needs in terms of safety , comfort & durability.

I can never stress how important rib protection is as well.

After a crash which my rib was one of the body parts that impacted the ground, I couldn't run or outstretch my arms -- let alone cough or sneeze -- without feeling immense pain in my lower rib.

So yeah, same symptoms as tt6389 has described.

Looks very good! Think this will be one of the jackets to consider when I'm replacing my old one.

its RSTaichi.

I had my first armoured jacket b4 but it was way too hot, especially if traffic is slow & the sun is bright & sunny. After that i bought a 100% mesh armoured RSTaichi jacket. It was not hot at all, but i dun feel at ease with 100% mesh. That uneasily feeling with 100% mesh keeps bugging me day & night. Also it doesn't have rib armour; that worries me becoz i had rib fracture b4. I have no peace of mind.

If Motorworld had sell this model earlier, I would have bought it once & for all - coz no other brand has got rib armour plus mesh/schoeller keprotec plus proven durability. I would not have wasted money changing new jacket every time.

recently i just recieved the GST offset package from government - $300 . Just nice for the armoured jacket. I should think everyone here also getting it.

But one thing here i am confused. I posted in Motorworld's SBF advertiser thread & asked about the jacket below. They deny having it. I specify clearly its the one with rib armour which i personally saw & touches. Maybe what they have is not the jacket with mesh/schoeller keprotec ; but another model with mesh/cordura jacket & rib armour.

Nevertheless, they say they can import for me the model I want upon request.

I wonder how much discount they can give for bulk purchase? Anyone interested?

actually those high end expensive brands - must choose the model which have the cordura/mesh combination plus spine armour. Some of the models dun even have cordura. Those model which have every thing cost even more.

After my friday nite classes, i went to regina at 8.45pm to check on the Rjay Octane jacket.

  1. The mesh quality on the chest area, wasn't as tough as my RSTaichi's mesh. I think its possible to rip it with 2 hands unlike my RStaichi mesh.
  2. The Cordura portion when you hand feel the thickness; its similar to the Alphinestar jacket hanging nearby; i think its acceptable.
  3. The stitching is double stitching.
  4. The waterproof inner liner is there, though I dun see any advantage in wearing the inner liner - its as good as wearing a raincoat inside the jacket; making you sweat under the sun. You would rather hide the inner liner in the same compartment where you keep your rain coat.
  5. The elbow & shoulder armour is hard type alright, but there is no hard spine armour - only a soft foam pad. I asked the Regina guy Darren, if he sells the Rjay armour, he say he dun. But he say he can import it & it cost only $30 extra. I ask him what about other brands of armour to fit in - he say he dun have. I tried to use my RSTaichi back armour (from Motorworld) to fit; but it can't.

So I told him the jacket is perfect in every aspect but missed on one thing - protecting the spine. What's the point spending so much money on a jacket if the spine is not protected? The spine is more important than $30.

Even when he said he promised to import the $30 spine armour, its better to buy the jacket only when the spine armour is already available at the shop.

This means that the $170 quoted previously doesn't include spine armour ; need to add extra $30. Total cost is $200 but there's potential to bargain downwards if more people buy.

I have suggested to him to visit this SBF thread & keep us updated if the spine armour is here. I have emailed him a link to this thread & hope he really comes here & update us. Perhaps he'll do what other Advertiser does:- post a one time special offer with a deadline.

yeah i totally agree wif you.....if what you are saying is true then its a prefect jacket to use for both normal riding and touring coz the inner lining is waterproof.... if anyone is getting it you can count me in

Have been looking ard for a mesh jacket. A month ago, almost bought the arai mesh jacket, but in the end never after i tried. L seems tight while XL is baggy. Looking for other brands of mesh jackets as well.

The rjays octane sounds good. 170 for hard armour on shoulders and elbows, and a liner for occasional drizzle. Actually seen alot of manufacturers putting foam as back protection. Does the foam actually offer any protection? It will be good if can get it with the back armour. One other thing, can all the armours be removed?

Abt the RS-taichi armour mesh, is the price confirmed at 300? Sounds great with the ribs armour. But are all the armours removable? Also there is an inner liner but is it a water proof lining?

I m interested in getting a mesh jacket, hopefully we can see a MO real soon.

Seem like the RJAYS Octane is going for $170 wif foam back protector

if get CE approved back protector add $30

so total is $200

hmm mayb can work dw the price

Any way wat i feel is tat sum dealers bring in jackets wif CE approved back protecor or the jacket itself cum wif approve back protector but they remove it n thus in order to "upgrade"

u can purchase fr them thus earning more $$

hmm juz wat i heard fr rumours outside...

any way ...

who cares ...

who give a better price or more competivite price go for it loh...

haha
