Like what the title says. I have my eyes on this particular bike and im planning to get it.But you'll needed a valid license to do the LTA procedures no?So assuming my father buys it using his name, can he NOT buy insurance for him and the bike cause hes not gonna ride it anyway but leave it at the car park. And wait for me to pass my license before transferring ownership of the bike to me?

And i would appreciate it if someone would give me a step by step walk-thru as to what procedures I've gotta do when buying a 2nd hand bike off another person. Not workshop.

Why don't wait until you pass? lol

The seller is going overseas.

And its better to secure a bike you want now than rush into another bike just because u just passed your license and want to ride outside.

yr father got license? if got put under him next time insurance add yr name

Yes he does.So a simplified walk thru would be secure the bike by giving deposit first to the owner, buy insurance at NTUC using my father's name,go LTA with bike owner to xfer name to my father, pay full amount to previous owner, when i pass my license, my father xfer bike ownership to me and add my name into his insurance?

So I've gotta to pay for my father's and my insurance yearly?since both our names are on it.

Corect me if im wrong

Well, the bike can still be reg under ur dad. Prolly save ya 11 bucks and a trip down to LTA and perhaps add value to your resale value as the no. of transfers is lesser.

How much deposit is the seller asking? Why not do the full transaction immediately once concluded? If seller still insists on deposit, i'd suggest either a cheque or electronic transfer as a form of proof. Avoid cash.

Another workaround if ya want the bike reg under your name eventhough uve yet to get your license, is to purchase the motor ins policy and indicate it as a non-rider, only to convert it later once uve passed. Do call up individual insurers to find out if they can customize such coverage.

Unless the bike is very ex or hot seller, a few thosands I dont see why must deposit . Under your dad at least he can ride first.

Agree. Weigh your options. Is there really a need to get bike first?

I did the same too, was rushing for a very good offer of 2.2k for a 5years COE cbr400.

Luckily I passed my 2A the moment I get to take it.

You could do what you were thinking of doing. Get the bike under your Dad's name. Then insurance will be under him as well. Get your season parking, park until you pass.

Pass already, either add yourself as sub rider and revise insurance or do full transfer and get your own insurance + cancel your dad's (they will do a refund based on remaining period, not sure about others, but NTUC did this for me).
