I was there in December...the road condition is still very very bad....

Worse now, they took down the signboard that points in the direction of the Donsak pier. (Normally once you see the big signboard, you make a left turn to the pier..that is if you are going to the pier from Surat Thani town). There is still a sign that leads u to Donsak...but is not obvious at all. So go slow and keep a good lookout!

oooh ya...BJ hotel is good! cheap....can park directly in front of the main entrance at the porch....like VIPs!

yup its a left turn to the pier at tis t-junction look out for it`~~~~.yah bj hotel veri nice,gd n cheap n the american breakfast they served was even better the 1s i had at koh samui some more 40bhat onli~~!!! n u can park straight infront of their hotel lobby u juz need 2 request`~ rememeber to check out the 2 thai bike shop owners shop n c their nice busas,harleys n bmws

Here is my short report on my trip to samui recently.

Pais 185 Baht for both Rider and bike to ferry over from Don Sak to samui .

Stayed over at NATHON, which is less than 10km from the Jetty for a night.

Checked in Seaside Palace Hotel for a night.

A Gd and budget hotel I would recommend.

Cost me 500 Baht a night with aircon/hot water facilities.

Non aircon are charged at 300baht per night.

Food over there are good (for me). Local thai food widely available at the night market stalls.

The hotel is less than 100m away from the seaside, refreshing view in the morning.

Parking wise, very secure. We could park right into their lobby. Laundry service are at 30baht/kg

2nd day, I moved into chaweng .

Things are relative more ex over that area.

Filled with fanciful restaurants and fast food outlet.

Happening beach during day time.

Stay over at a apartment rented at wave samui http://www.thewavesamui.com/

its owned by a caucasian called dave.

with aircon/hotwater facilities. Find it rather steep. 900baht a night.

but it'll be a nice place to chill out in the evening at the pub downstairs.

Rented a cub over the ride around the island, cost from ranged 120baht - 150baht whole day.

Parking is open space behind the pub.

Rode back from Don sak on the return trip via Route 401, 4013 , 408 passing by Nakhon Si Thammarat, Hua sai, Songkhla.

Definetly shorter than going via Surat thani, much more scenic since its the coastal road, but took a longer time due to the road condition.

Some part of the road are narrow and single laned which alot of trucks going to and fros.

Most famous places for tourists to go are "Wat Phra Yai" or Big Buddha, located on Big buddha beach between Bophut & Choengmon peninsula.

Not far away from Big Buddha lies the temple of Wat Plai Leam - after a visit to the temples of Plai Leam, you can buy fish food by the side of the lake and feed the fishes in the pond, it's so much fish, it will be an experience.

South of Lamai is the "infamous" rock formations of "Hin Ta - Hin Yai" - Grandmother Grandfahter rock

South side of Samui along the ring road and you will find "Wat Khunaram" where the mummified monk sits

Shopping in Koh Samui

Chaweng is by far the largest shopping strip in Samui, about 10 kilometers of shops on either side of the Chaweng beach road. Maenam is getting busier by the year, it now hosts everything from large furniture shops. Nathon until a few years ago, most banks & government building were only located here. Many good places to shop for clothes or make a new pair of shoes - handmade! Lamai has some shops for clothes as well as souvernier shops

If you're riding up best would be to take the ferry from Don Sak Pier. The co. that operates there is Raja ferry. You can google them for their timing n prices.

Journey from Don Sak to Koh Samui will be abt 1hr 30 mins.

Just came back last month, take the highway 41, exit surathani and head straight all the way till end of highway, filter out and make a u-turn, u will see a sign for donsak pier to turn left. After turning left, u will be riding on a runway like of road till u see the pier.

last time i was there was juz a dirt run they were tryin to build

a proper road to the pier. take care when goin on the ferry cause

the floor is metal 1 so may be abit slippery

So much better now. the construction was completed on 2004 if I remembered correctly, april 2005, I was dying with that wide 3-5 straight lanes without obsticles. U can even take off if u r on wings. Last visit Nov 07, road starts to age but still able to lock my trottle full.

hello all. reviving this somewhat old thread to get more info. can i know where do u guys stay in Koh Samui (especially those who rider there) and how do u get there ? got map and topo own way, follow hotel vehicle or just try ur luck.

i'm looking for a hotel that has secure parking and is comfortable and most importantly, clean toilets.. hehe !

also, any hotels that also have adventure activities such as ATV and such ? thanks in advance !
