u can stay at surrathani in a hotel called BJ Hotel local 4stars with breakfast for 2 was 560bhat last time i stayed there. Address of hotel is 17/1 Donnok Rd, . Muang Suratthani 84000. tel is 66-77-217414

yo...for those intending to head to Donsak pier, be xtra careful like what koma said

I was there in December...the road condition is still very very bad....

Worse now, they took down the signboard that points in the direction of the Donsak pier. (Normally once you see the big signboard, you make a left turn to the pier..that is if you are going to the pier from Surat Thani town). There is still a sign that leads u to Donsak...but is not obvious at all. So go slow and keep a good lookout! :goodluck:

oooh ya...BJ hotel is good! cheap....can park directly in front of the main entrance at the porch....like VIPs!

Here is my short report on my trip to samui recently.

Pais 185 Baht for both Rider and bike to ferry over from Don Sak to samui .

Stayed over at NATHON, which is less than 10km from the Jetty for a night.

Checked in Seaside Palace Hotel for a night.

A Gd and budget hotel I would recommend.

Cost me 500 Baht a night with aircon/hot water facilities.

Non aircon are charged at 300baht per night.

Food over there are good (for me). Local thai food widely available at the night market stalls.

The hotel is less than 100m away from the seaside, refreshing view in the morning.

Parking wise, very secure. We could park right into their lobby. Laundry service are at 30baht/kg :)

2nd day, I moved into chaweng .

Things are relative more ex over that area.

Filled with fanciful restaurants and fast food outlet.

Happening beach during day time.

Stay over at a apartment rented at wave samui http://www.thewavesamui.com/

its owned by a caucasian called dave.

with aircon/hotwater facilities. Find it rather steep. 900baht a night.

but it'll be a nice place to chill out in the evening at the pub downstairs.

Rented a cub over the ride around the island, cost from ranged 120baht - 150baht whole day.

Parking is open space behind the pub.

Rode back from Don sak on the return trip via Route 401, 4013 , 408 passing by Nakhon Si Thammarat, Hua sai, Songkhla.

Definetly shorter than going via Surat thani, much more scenic since its the coastal road, but took a longer time due to the road condition.

Some part of the road are narrow and single laned which alot of trucks going to and fros.

Nightlife in Koh Samui:

Chaweng outshines anything else on Samui regarding the amount of nightlife area and places to go, Chaweng probably has everything, just find your spot. Lamai has the second largest to offer after the restaurant closes up. A few larger dance places, but mostly pubs from all over the world - enjoy

Shopping in Koh Samui

Chaweng is by far the largest shopping strip in Samui, about 10 kilometers of shops on either side of the Chaweng beach road. Maenam is getting busier by the year, it now hosts everything from large furniture shops. Nathon until a few years ago, most banks & government building were only located here. Many good places to shop for clothes or make a new pair of shoes - handmade! Lamai has some shops for clothes as well as souvernier shops

Koh Phangan island

Another ideal destination for travelers who prefer less crowded, more private beaches set in a laid-back atmosphere. However, this is also a very hip place to be as the island hosts the world famous, and perhaps the biggest beach party on this planet – the full moon party on Hat Rin.

http://www.samuitv.com/media/maps/phangan_area_map_small.jpg

Covering an area of 191 square kilometers, Ko Phangan is located 20 kilometers directly north of Ko Samui, or approximately 100 kilometers from Surat. The best time to visit Ko Phangan is from February to September.

# Fullmoon Party Island - Haad Rin beach

# Halfmoon Party - Ban Tai jungle

# Blackmoon Party - Ban Tai beach

# Fifth largest island in Thailand

# About 10 km. north of Samui, 30 min. with speed boat

# 167 square kilometers in size

# Coral reefs around north west Phangan

Koh Tao island

In Sairee, or better say Jor Por Ror Bay at its southern end, you'll find the Rama V Rock, right in front of the fishery Museum. At Sairee View, a hilltop resort in the north end you can overlook the whole east coast, a whale skeleton is on display and closeby there's the mysterious diamond caves. The main road stops at C.F.T. offering a spectacular sight of Nangyuan as well as Thai Chi and traditional Thai massage Another great panorama you'll have at Two View, one of the highest peaks of Tao, best take a taxi towards Tanote Bay, get off at the sign and walk the rest, it's really worth it. - Koh Tao Info

http://www.samuitv.com/media/maps/kohtao_area_map_small.jpg

Koh Tao, little more than 21 square meters, is located about 70 km east of the coastline between Suratthani and Chumphon, in the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Tao means Turtle Island, because in the past the waters in the area were rich with sea turtles, nowadays they have mostly moved on to other breeding grounds. Initially the island was not inhabited, there was only the occasional fisherman from the neighbouring islands, looking for shelter in a storm or just taking a break before continuing his tiresome journey.

guys, any updates to the route to ko samui.. need as much info as possible as i am making a trip up there end of the month.. i am interested in doin the coastal route.

Quote monklee

"From the main highway, instead of going into Surat Thani, i made a left exit to the town of Nakhom Si Thammarat. From there, you can take the east coast road up which is more scenic than the main highway. Once you head into Nakhom Si THammarat, look out for signboards to Surat Thani. Along the way, you will see a sign that leads to Donsak. Follow that sign and it will get you to Donsak Pier."

this main highway mentioned is it highway 4 tat actually goes to phattalung or it's a different highway?

thx bros

Hi guys i need help.. me going koh samui with a few friends and i need advise as to the timing and the days to me going 20 to 25 april..

as in the timing of the ferry and all..

If you're riding up best would be to take the ferry from Don Sak Pier. The co. that operates there is Raja ferry. You can google them for their timing n prices.

Journey from Don Sak to Koh Samui will be abt 1hr 30 mins.

You might want to refer to this thread for some info and directions provided by the helpful community here.
