No need to be experienced or what, babe.

Avoid looking into your mirrors. Look ahead at the cars in front. Accelerate. Find a way through, and squeeze past. At least u will put some other sane, rational driver between yourself and that idiot behind.

Sometimes, playing safe by maintaining speed or slowing down will get you into worse trouble, if the driver behind is a douchebag and accidentally or intentionally rams into you.

The 'find a way through and squeeze past" isn't too safe when u are blinded by bright lights. I wouldn't do that because I cannot see if another biker might be lane splitting beside me.

I wouldn't slow down too much either, at most a little. I've tried that before and the response often ended with horns and middle fingers from the drivers when I overdid the slowing down part. High differential speeds with adjacent lanes also leave the tailgator with no chance to overtake me as everyone will pass him at high speeds. I will only slow down deliberately if I want to play with the driver. Face it, you've all lost your cool before. My favourite tactic when I am pissed is a very very gradual slow down, down gear and whack. 400cc and equivalent will pull away fairly quickly and give u the space to do a lane change/split. With the momentary distance in the rear u can better execute a safer lane change/split, or detect a lane splitting bike beside you and abort your move.

Holding constant speed wouldn't improve the situation. I guess on most days when blinded, I would inch very very slowly to the sides until the the high beams stop shining into my mirrors and I can safely lane split to go. Horsepower is most handy in this situation.

The "accidently or intentionally ram into you" part if a very real risk from hot tempered/drunk drivers. Keeping "incidents' on the road brief is a safer bet to getting to our destinations safely.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

To prevent getting blinded, try raising your arms to block the mirrors.

Reason why I'd choose to blast away from tailgaters is, you never know who's behind the wheel. An alert, aggressive driver might play tap brakes lights with you, but not an intoxicated drunk, distracted moron on the phone, or someone fainted on the wheel.... Whatever it is, might just ram up the back of the bike, and thats the end of it.

Do what Motorcycles do best, accelerate and lane split. Getting 4 points is better than getting rear ended.

ah... I'm gonna try that the next time i get blinded. Thanks for the tip Neo :thumb: We learn from each other.

It works very well especially when you're riding Italian bikes. Actually, got no choice cos all you see is your elbows! :D

The really dangerous one is getting blinded head on. This one is harder to avoid, short of taking the hands off the handlebar to block the light. Sometimes I get so pissed off I want to chase the bugger down and spraypaint over his lights when he stop.

You don't need your mirrors much if you're gonna accelerate ahead faster than the traffic flow.

I've encountered this situation a few times before. Tailgater with HID lights in my mirrors. I just lean forward to keep the mirrors out of my eye, then accelerate and lane split. A 400cc and above bike should be able to handle this.

Inching to the side isn't worth a whit if the fella turns out to be an arsehole who'll simply follow you. There is that possibility.

The best method is to accelerate and put something in between you and that dude.

Exactly. Just gas it and go.

There are those rear mirrors thats filtered film, reduce glare kind.

Otherwise, if got chance, i'did outaccelerate that bugle to let him know that piece of junk he is driving.

Think about it. A super 4 does 0-100 in just over 5 seconds. Run a search on youtube and u'll find it easy enough with the right key words.

A Lamborgini Spyder does it in 4.3seconds on a car rental website i saw.

A Fazer 6 can match the Lambor. I always think of it as the performace equivalent for the first 200km/h.

The Lambor will eat the 1000cc dust :deal:

I haven't got started on the supersports bikes. Busas and Birds. And some picanto prick actually tried to tail my friend on a Concours. :slapforehead:

Super Goondu Sami is me!!!!!

Happily went for movie with gf in PS at about 830pm, 1130pm wanna go home, reach bike le then realise keys not with me!!!

!$&^&*)* We traced all my steps, went a few rounds, asked GV staff, BK staff, and Security for "Lost & Found", still dun haf...

Was about to approach carpark management for "lost & found" when we traced 1 last time and gf found the keys in a "hidden area" of my bike...

Apparently I had left my keys somewhere on my bike and a courteous samaritan had hidden it for me.

Thank you Mr Samaritan, you saved me a lot of troubles and made my day!

Although, of course that did not save me from an earful from her for "making her walk", lol...

talkng about inconsiderate drivers - here's my observation:

a) turning right from NUH into AYE towards CTE.

As you turn right into AYE - there is a slip road coming in from Bouna Vista. Most of the cars don't even stop to check - and if you are a biker - he won't even notice you. I was at this junction a couple of years ago when I got hit by a car that failed to stop. Last weekend - i was turning into the same spot (and thankfully I "jaga" this place) - true enough - a bloody comfort cab just went straight on @ full speed without stopping.

b) Dumper Trucks on CTE.

You notice that there are quite a few right now. the problem is that they are speeding along at 90km/h fully loaded with earth! now- a blob of earth falling off the truck will not really do damage to a car but to a bike - disasterous!!! the worst thing is - whatever happens - they just drive off!! its behind them - not their problem.

just griping.

Its not about pressure, I talking about road graciousness. :)

The thing is since oreali in the extreme right lane, what signal u expect him to give you as he wana overtake you ?

Signal right again on lane 1 ? tapped his high beam ?

Actually not alot pple like being high beamed. So I assume most pple like me normally close up abit to the vehicle in front to "signal" my intention i actually wana go faster.

But your perception do enlighten me on this. :cheeky:

As for speed, I do not wana justifed how many km/hr on this. Some felt 110km they should have right of way in lane 1. Some may feel 130 or 150 bla bla and i come across pple feeling driving 90 in lane 1 is absolutely no wrong on this as he/she is driving on the speed limit.

But as such what will happen to the traffic in sg ? I always take lane 1 as overtaking lane and if any vehicle behind me close up on me, I will always move over to lane 2 and let them pass. :)

*P.s* I am a rider/driver

The problem in this region is that the driving attitude is bad. Its like "I'm paying road tax and if I don't break the law by sitting on Lane 1 - it's my right". Overseas - they are disciplined to drive on Lane 2 and use Lane 1 for overtaking as well as emergency vehicles. Here you got slow drivers hogging Lane 1 and you ALSO have Lorries and Factory Buses taking not only Lane 3 but also Lane 2.

How?

Sometimes go 90 - 100 on lane 2, car behind still come up close, or overtake in an "ah-bish" manner, really kiam-pa!

Like overtake and cut in very very near bike for instance, what the bong bong, lane 1 no space for them to overtake ah?

They must really love to smell our fart...

Regardless of your speed... when someone can tailgate you... it means you are slow.

Just move over and let them overtake... end of problem.

Not really, lane 3 vans and lorries going at 60-70, im going 90 on lane 2, lane 1 no vehicles, so ANY vehicles wanting to overtake should go lane 1, else they can cut left wan...

Last I check, the little white box says 90, so cannot complain "slow" ba?

Also, when someone is tailgating, it may also mean they are fast, sometimes perhaps too fast. As a logic, dun think ppl get summon for going at 90, but rather, for higher speeds - No?

I unds wat u mean - if Im going at 60-70 in lane 2 den yes, I will cut left and join lane 3 slower traffic (no diff), else hogging. But at 90-100? Dun think so, unless ambulance behind la. :D

oh, and i wanna say how damm fun it is when large vehicles over-take on the same lane within inches of you. one fine day i'll fly to marina barrage from their drafty breeze... wheeeee~~~ :D

the thing about tailgaters is, cant they at least be a little considerate? i mean you're on the most left lane running in your engine. and they still tailgate. and when they overtake, they really overtake mirror to mirror distance. urgh.

Thrash? Don't mind if i do.

Exunctly, its the tailgater's mentality in this case, not abt speed at all. Oh well, maybe they dun have frens riding bikes or juz simply bochup...

Or maybe they jealous coz they noe they dun have the balls to ride a bike! :D

Oh OK.. I see what you mean. Should have slowly ease off on the throttle and pretend to look down on the bike like as though something is wrong.. confirm he will switch lane to overtake you.

You are right... once you are at the speed limit.. there is no need for you to go faster because someone is tailgating you.

There are alot of pricked brain drivers on the roads nowadays. And in any situation... bikers tend to lose.

Ride safe and wary everyone. Control your emotions when there is a throttle in your hand.

yes, i sometimes use lane 1 to offload pricks from my back when lane 1 is clear and lane 3 is packed. A rarely used but fast method to get my rear space.
