personally, the rider could have done something about it. she could have changed lane to get him off her ass. i will never give these tailgaters a chance to screw up at my expense. I e-brake, he hit me = i die. defensive riding is the key. wish her a speedy recovery and hope local riders learn a thing or two from this incident. s**t happens, but sometimes can do some prevention. :)

Naim, she p-plate la... She didn't know... She thinking that Singapore roads very safe like in the driving centre... Just arrived home, on the way home from woodlands the exit from bke to kje, a lot of buses and dump trucks and lorries on the second lane... Tempted to horn and ask them to go back into the third lane... But I got a feeling that they won't do it, which will piss me off and start smashing their mirrors... So I didn't... I just rode off... Too many mirrors to smash... About 3 buses, 4 lorries and 6 dump trucks... One rider can't handle them all... HAIZ...

This, plus, bikers always travel faster than most cars on any given road. It's a fact that some can't or won't admit.

Me and many other riders would gladly show these people with hard evidence unless they are all talk.

I feel for her as a fellow rider. The video really shows how vulnerable we riders can be, even if we are just minding our own business.

"Hope your injuries are just superficial. A speedy recovery to you!"

Today while DRIVING to work... almost got sideswiped by a numbskull in a 10ft lorry in a similar pattern to the scooter lady.

Who says driving a car is safer than a bike? In a car, the only thing you can do is horn and hope the bugger doesn't hit you. In traffic swerve left cannot, jam brake cannot, accelerate also cannot.....

If I was riding a bike, I would've siam a bit, horn and give him a finger and then powered off liao... -_-

In certain sense bikes are safer than cars la... the frequencies of cars having accidents are definitely higher than bikes... but the severity of an accident to a biker is of course much higher than a car driver/passenger...

If got video, can send to TP & they will receive fines. A few drivers in my company received before, but it's TP took the videos.

completely idiot... just drop the fellow 20 metres before the entrance man! Sometime the passenger also koo koo, the location where he/she wan the driver to drop them off also buey guam one.

Yeap, the driver must know where to drop off the passengers cos he/she has the control of the vehicle, why let passengers control.....

Some are just normal pedestrians who jaywalks but will never admit. Some are drivers who cannot accept bikes are faster than their family car.

Dunno what these ppl are thinking

Yes, I agree with you. The primary goal for riders is to get away from ALL other vehicles. Let me emphasize, "ALL".

To me, all other vehicles are hazards.

As for the news, I saw that she will be undergoing for her 3rd operation. I wish her all the best and speedy recovery too like all of you here.

Biking is something that everyone can learn and enjoy! :goodluck:

Omg... 3 operations? Might be more serious than we thought... Maybe a few fractured or broken bones... Well I can say that she's in good hands... The ttsh doctors are the best among all the hospitals in Singapore... Hope all goes well for her...

Correction. Cars are safer because the person inside is protected by metal cage. Bikes are more dangerous because drivers do not give a damn about riders. :D

Sure very slow then after ages sweep under carpet. As of late I only received a letter about the one I submitted. :sly:

Today while on the way home, saw a near accident.

The both of them are so lucky.

Don't know what they are thinking.

Its brake.

Blame the parents for not teaching their kids about road safety.

Stupidity is self regulating, if they continue to be this stupid, eventually they will end up dead or be the cause of someone's death.

Sorry, nature not so merciful whether they are kids or not.

Allow me to entertain you. Using statistics from 2011 because Dec 2012 has not been released yet. Numbers from http://www.singstat.gov.sg/pubn/reference/mdscontents.html

Obviously there are some assumptions, for example that all registered vehicles are used to drive similar distances - this skews the statistics for buses the most, making them appear more dangerous than they really are, same for goods, vans, heavy vehicles and to a smaller extent for cars.

Using the numbers below:

Cars 633,331; Deaths 15, Injured 2636

Bikes 146,559; Deaths 99, Injured 4641

The result is that you are 28.5 times more likely to die if you ride in Singapore compared to driving in Singapore. 7.6 times more likely to sustain an injury.

This is consistent with numbers from the USA (NHTSA numbers: "Motorcycle rider deaths were nearly 30 times more than drivers of other vehicles.")

Another word of wisdom from the NHTSA: "The failure of motorists to detect and recognize motorcycles in traffic is the predominating cause of motorcycle accidents."

And on the "Car vs bikes" accidents:

"75% of accidents were found to involve a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle, while the remaining 25% of accidents were single motorcycle accidents. In the multiple vehicle accidents, the driver of the other vehicle violated the motorcycle right-of-way and caused the accident in two-thirds of those accidents."

I'm willing to bet that in Singapore, single motorcycle accidents are a smaller percentage compared to the US - mostly due to MUCH tighter regulation around motorcycle licences.

nice bro... proves that drivers holding class 3 license only seriously need to go for retraining every now and then because they cause far more accidents then bikes...

That many cars eh... Hmm... 600,000 cars multiplied by $50k Coe... And 150,000 bikes multiply by $2,000 Coe... Brb...

600000x50000=$30,000,000,000 add in 150000x2000=$30,000,000. So that's where our mrt construction money is coming from... $30,030,000,000. Just the exact amount I expected the construction to cost... LOL...

Isnt tat becoz e number of cars far exceed e number of bikes? Or r u referring to a percentage?

Base on e statistics provided. Bike accidents r 3% of e bike population where as cars r lower than 0.4%. So bikes r not safer even if majority of e cause is due to other vehicles.

We must remember tat to ride a bike is safe. BUT e roads r not safe!

Cars hit cars, cars hit bikes, cars hit lorries, cars hit trees, cars hit walls. U don't see bikes hitting bikes, or bikes hitting trees, or bikes hitting walls do u? Bikes are safe. It's cars which make the ROAD unsafe... And especially with drivers who drive heavy vehicles on lane 2.
