Agreed. Sorry for discussing it.

Ride on

No worries. It might happen sooner or later seeing that its becoming a norm to see delivery and tipper trucks travelling in the first and second lane nowadays. We still have drivers who took their licences eons ago and still insist that bikes can only be on the left lane and not in lane 2 or lane 3. Then we have more vehicles now going against the flow on expressways. :p

LOL. its been a month plus and the IO for my case haven get back to me. haha.
Pester your IO. Ask about the outcome. Probably busy seeing that recently there was the great GE2015.

today i noticed while changing lanes that drivers do notice me and thanks to my red jacket with reflectors i guess.
It seems you met those responsible drivers. Good for you. There are those no matter how bright or shiny the clothes you are wearing will just choose to not notice you. They will just 'push' you out of the lane and knowing riders will just have to give way since we are vulnerable. There are also those after you horn and instead of getting back in their lane will still just cut into your lane after checking and sees that its just a bike. If its a tipper truck or any bigger vehicle they will not do likewise. :bounce:

As I had thought how it happened. So now no more speculations. :cool:https://www.facebook.com/sgreckless/videos/1004482619614763/

Me too. It was not a taxi but it was more than just a 'brushed'. I was not even lane splitting. I was in the centre of the lane. Wobbled but managed to maintain balance and stopped safely. To top it off the driver wind down his window and shouted at me. "How you ride bike!?" To which I responded " You change lane no need signal and check blindspot?!" Knowing he got no way to rebut he wind up his window and drove off.

Continuing on the case of the Ducati accident.. I realize one thing that could possibly avoid the disaster.. And I'm saying this with all due respect for the fallen riders. Some of us are just fortunate enough to learn through experience and emerge the other side with just some bruise ego and bodily injuries..

First off, I am a lane splitter myself like most bikers here I believe.. So when I was looking at the video, in a sad mood of course, I noticed one thing in particular.. Noticed that the driver on lane 1, the truck was in lane 3. lane 2 was EMPTY. Experience in the past, not just of mine but of many others do notice that when there is an empty space between lanes, drivers will ALMOST ALWAYS change into the spot for whatever purpose. I myself encountered this many a time, so what I normally do with such a situation, I will shift my position while lane splitting between lane 1 & 2, to move to the centre of lane 2 as soon as I can, by doing this, when the car eventually turns out without signaling or checking blind spot, I have more time to react compared to me staying between lanes 1&2.. This might have given me slightly more time to honk or do evasive actions..

This is just from my experience. Thought if this could give some advise to our newer riders here it would be worth it..

It might. However there is a possibility the vehicle in the 2nd lane might just speed up and rear end the motorcycle seeing some of these drivers have this ego problem when being overtaken by bikes. I believe the deceased might have wanted to lane split all the way past the vehicle with cam as well. For if he had gone in the centre right after passing the car in the centre lane then he would be between the cam car and the vehicle he just overtook. So I believe he might be thinking of just lane splitting all the way.

He might still be sideswiped had he gone in the centre of the lane by the vehicle on the 1st lane. Keep in mind the driver simply changed lane without checking and still assuming its clear. Only way it could have been prevented is if the driver took the time to check and lane change safely. People may say the driver did not had the intent but that is the issue. Accidents happen when you do not intend it to. It happens due to negligence by one or both parties. Its already happened. Lets hope none of such happens again. This is just my own view. Lets make this beneficial by exchanging pointers and views. Feel free to share yours.

for me, if i want to continue lane splitting, i would be doing so very defensively, assuming that "space" will/might be filled by vehicle from that lane's left, right and behind.

as for bro duo, all these are in theory and practically the most important, it is being emphasized in all our theories and practical tests. due diligence in checking mirrors and blindspots, TP implemented, Schools executes, but idiot drivers dont do it on the road!

so regardless of whose fault, ultimately we riders are facing the most risks, ride defensively and safely bros and sis~

Words used correctly.. Regardless who's at fault, ultimately we should think who's the one getting injured. It's the biker! Sometimes I hear bikers say "the driver didn't do this or that!" Well.. it's a fact that they do very little of what they ought to. Of course the law is there to prevent this but...... The law only applies if they are caught. Most of the time riders get injured first before the law catches up to drivers like these..

So.. Better take things in our own hands and ride defensively at all times.. Ride as if all drivers are out to run you over.. Check each and every car that we pass..

Ride safe all...

I concur. In any accident the rider is the one that loses. Hence why riders never have right of way. Either way will have to give way to bigger vehicles and this is what makes these drivers ignore us riders to the point that we are 'invisible' to them.

Wonder if we use high beam during lane splitting would aid in visibility during day time.
It definitely would. But drivers will still claim to not see us. Plus seeing that the eyes are used to seeing the same shade of light from headlights somehow it will not trigger the brain to be aware of it. Perhaps it would instead be able to ' capture' other coloured lights which the eye does not see very often.

ultimately, if drivers dont pay attention, no matter how we mod they can/will turn a blind eye as well.

my own experience will make me have certain reactions to scenario.

high beam is actually not often used.

say if there's enuff time, i will tap horn to make the driver more aware, time scarce, evasive/defensive action/s like braking will be done first.

on bukit merah, cab driver turning into main road dashed straight for lane 1 and i pressed horn and he stopped..otherwise would have had a collision for sure.

gonna buy a helmet cam so can file a police report from now on.

Done it.

Finally TP get back to me! Driver was charged under one count of careless driving under rule 29 of the Road traffic rule and one count of failing to lodge a report withing 24 hours of an accident.

Damn, I already repaired my vehicle. U guys think still can claim on that guy, or get him to compensate me?

Hmm.. The Prob is I only got workshop to repair part of the damages (40plus). The major damage one, like the fairings, front cowl, I did the repair and spraying myself.

Oh. Unless you have all the receipts of the workshop and parts with date, nothing much can be done.

5 mths of riding since i passed 2b & quite a number of close shaves already. If my reflexes were a little slower, i wld hv been a goner by now. In fact 1st day of riding my bike after transferring ownership, already 2 close shaves. most memorable was a car overtake me quarter car length & then cut in front of me on the pie!

Anyway... yday morning on my way to work, on a 3 lane rd. I was on the left lane & wanted to switch to ctr lane. All clr, I moved in... chun chun when i entererd the lane, a van on the 3rd lane (right turn lane) slightly ahead of me quickly shot into the 2nd lane cos he didnt want to queue in his lane & i almost had a collision with it if not for some quick reflexes & good brakes!.

But more then half of my close shaves involved taxis. Sometimes I fail to understand why they even try to squeeze me out of my lane even when the lane they are on is empty. Intimidation perhaps?

I heard having a p-plate on 'encourages' so called 'experienced' drivers to intimidate & bully new riders. Is this theory true? I know someone who did not even put a p-plate because of this reason.

Ride safe everyone!
