I mean usually after getting the colour u want, u will apply lacquer.

But there are some lacquer which will change the parent colour tone. Usually after applying lacquer, u will get the shiny effect , the glossy effect but the tone of the colour remains the same.

However, some lacquer actually makes the base colour darker after the lacquer coat.

And also, some lacquer will give the "powder effect". Is it because the lacquer is mixed with something??? After applying the lacquer, if u look close enough, u can see "powder effect" in the coat. Where as some lacquer is "100% clear"

Any guys expert in lacquer care to explain the different grades & types

if you spray directly.. u should spray the whole part.. cos the moment you spray.. sure you can see the different from your previous paint.. hard to explain.. try on other non visible place..

Hi all,

I have read thru 5 pages before I start to DIY Self Spray fairing and belly pan. (High Temp Silver Color)

May I ask why is the surface rough and porous after clear gloss goes on it?

Am I missing something such as using RUBBING COMPOUND to rub thru the whole finish paintwork and complete it with a polish?

Please advise.

Cheers!

Hi Vince,

U r a bit faster than me. I read everything before I started my spraying too...

Now trying to spray some glitter on before I start on my clear coat...

*Mine is actually looking porous right now.... I am thinking it might be because the coat is not thick enough...

Post ur results after you complete!! :)

Hi yappiez,

You work also looking porous. Heh heh heh.

Seems like using can spray would not give good result eh.

I do not think that you do not spray thick enough. And I don't advise that too.

Go on with a few thin layer would be best.

And then clear coat... and a few more thin layer and finally 2 more clear coat.

Then, wet sanding with 2000 sandpaper and rubbing compound and finish off with polish. Not too sure about the last part as I have not finish the work yet.

I don't think I would post the result after finish as it would take a long time.

Getting a little bit of customize sticker to go along :-)

Cheers!

I completed the wetsanding and rubbbing compound and it is as good as it gets. Smooth as a baby's bottom. Just need a wax polish and it will be all done....

For anyone who wants to DIY. Be prepared to spend a LOT of time to achieve the best results....

My part is only A3 size and I already quite shack... especially the sanding part...... :(
