This incident kept returning to my mind. I was doing my BMT at Tekong, from "Mohawk" company. As usual book out saturday, book in sunday. Before bokking out sure kena tekan and clean bunk room swee2. I remember 1 particular sunday when we all booked in to camp, on my bed i found 1 strand of hair......if i can remember exactly its roughly ard 30cm in length....plus minus. I thought nuthing of it and just threw it away.

However nowadays when i think about it, i feel spooked and curious. Who's hair issit....was it sharing my bed? Was from M3105 2001 "Standard" Batch.

I saw a strand of very long hair on our toilets basin oso... Jus cant be explained...

But was from Bronco coy 2007

what the fook?? thats scary!! in camp?? cfnm all botak what!

Thats why, all botak......no auntie cleaners. Im having goose bumps as im typing this. I guess some things are best left like that.

I'm an ex-regular & I've been to a few camps.

Apart fm the basic soldiering skills & necessities i've learnt and possess, these were the extra SOPs & equipment for my survival in NS :

a) SOP for any new place that I'm gonna sleep in - knock on the door b4 going in, ask for permission to sleep over.

b) SOP for urinary & bowel discharge in the great outdoors of Tekong & Brunei Start : paiseh paiseh, sorry sorry, minta maaf...again & again till I'm done.

End : gam sia, thank you, terima kasih.

c) One Chinese talisman, wrapped in a red ang pow, protected with a waterproof pouch.

In spite of the above, I still had some experiences :

1992, RSS Panglima, the old training schl in Sembawang, in a bunk.

I was sleeping when my toes became itchy and i thought my legs had brushed against something. I was feeling very groggy after a hard day of training and i had no energy to even open my eyes to check. But the itchy sensation was still there and it wouldnt go away even after i had shifted position. So i opened my eyes and i saw a human shaped shadow standing at the end of my bed. Man, my balls just shrunk there and then, i can feel the hair at the back of my neck sedi-ah! & i just froze there unable to even breathe... i shut my eyes and tried almost everything to will the shadow away - chinese (shen ah jiu jiu wo ah!), malay(minta maaf, jangan kacau saya) and finally "In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit..." when i opened my eyes, the shadow disappeared. altho it was gone, i couldnt sleep for the rest of the nite, scared shitless.

1995, Tekong. Yes, I've heard about the infamous 3rd door in Echo... No, we didnt stop training on Thursday nites.

Once (no, it wasnt a Thurs) we went for a nite walk with some OCTs in the jungle between Camps 1 & 3. Single file, the back of helmets fixed with short strips of cyalume-filled straws. One hand contact SBO, front scout doin the "mime" thing (hand stretched out feeling for spider cobwebs masquerading as booby trap wires..)

Suddenly the column stopped, alerted by the snapping sound of twigs. Everybody went to high alert, thinking it was another test. The front scout and i waited and soon we saw something ahead of us... two balls of red lights dancing in the distance..

Man, i tot, why i so suey, kena this kind of thing ?? The front scout had other ideas. He was eagerly trying to retreat. I stopped him and motioned him to wait and see. Finally, the "flames" were actually a pair of eyes belonging to a wild boar! It was hairy, and had a pair of tusks that was about 10-15cm long. Relieved, we just waited until the boar left and we continued our trek.

1996, Seletar Camp. Outside the camp is Jln Kayu roti prata. A lot of guys will go out to "tabao" and some will cycle out. I was going home on my bike at about 2300 on this rd which was between wide gap and the old Guards camp. The rd was like those that u can see in the old tv serials, the width barely enough to accomodate two cars abreast of each other, old lampposts and rusty telephone/power lines draped across each of the lampposts. I could see in the distance under the dim lamppost light that there was a cyclist going along the bend of the rd. I shifted my bike more to the right so that i wouldnt be close to the cyclist when i pass by him, just in case. The strange thing was by the time i've reached the bend, i couldnt see the cyclist at all and the rd was deserted. The same creepy feeling came again & I sped away leaving my buddy on another bike behind. The next day when he asked why i left so quickly, i told him about it... my buddy swore that he didnt see any cyclist. Needless to say, everytime i pass by that bend, i will say a prayer, and make sure that i'm armed with a talisman.

Tekong Tales

I have been reading many stories about the old Tekong. When BMTC used to be BTS and the old camp provided the setting for the famous 3rd door bunk. I belong to the newer generation. Where accommodation was 5-star. Not many stories were written about this new BMTC.

I spent a year in total as a ‘resident’ of the island. Did my 4 months of BMT as a recruit of Kilo Company (now known as Kestrel). The so-called last company of BMTC being the furthest. Then after commissioning, went back for 9 months from Nov ’02 till Aug ‘03 at Charlie Company (now known as Cougar). It was famous for ‘siong’ trainings. The time I spent in Tekong brought about many stories. I will share with you my experiences, some interesting experiences of others, hopefully shed light to certain myths and leave mysteries for future dwellers of the island.

This first piece happened to me. It was either my 2nd or 3rd batch of recruits. It was the last night of their BTP shoot at the Tekong 100m Range 1. I was the chamber safety and everything had gone well. We were down to the last 2 details for the night at the 100m mark. I was standing behind the firer at lane 6 watching their shots and making sure everything was ok. Then all of the sudden, I heard a shout from the firer at lane 4. I turned my attention to him and saw that he was standing stunned in his foxhole. His gaze was fixed at the target area and though he looked frozen stiff, I could see him shaking. I rushed over with another safety officer and asked him what happened. He did not say a word and just could not stop shaking. We removed his weapon from him and helped him out of the foxhole. Another instructor came over and led him back to the training shed. After confirming with the conducting and supervising officers plus the range warden, we proceeded with the last detail. At the end of the shoot and when all lights were back on, I approached the recruit. He was a Malay chap and there were only 4 Malay instructors present, including myself. We tried to calm him down by asking him to recite holy verses. Finally, he was calm enough to speak. When asked to explain what had happened, all he said was that he saw a grey figure standing at the butt area waving at him. From my recollection, he did mention that it was a headless figure. We left it at that and started packing up to head back to our company line. We had 4 buses waiting to take us back to the comfort and sanity of ‘civilization’. After a quick and meaningless allocation of buses to the platoons, I stood in front of my bus waiting. This I remember very clearly. There were 3 buses parked at the open space nearer to Range 2. My bus in particular was parked along the road in between the two ranges. Those familiar to the range would know that this is the road that leads to the back of the range known as the butt area. There were basically no lights or very poor lighting along that road. At one point, while waiting for my recruits, I was standing in front of the bus at the driver’s side. For no rhyme or reason, I felt compelled to turn my head and look at the back of the bus. What I saw made my heart jump. Cause for a split second, I saw something run past behind the bus. Till this day I still remember the figure. It was a grey figure, in running motion. And on top of being headless, it had no forearms. (I told this to a friend recently, and his reply to me was to why I did not go investigate.) Let me tell you what ran through my mind at that moment. My first thought was that I had seen what my recruit described to have seen at the butt. But I had so wanted for it not to be that. I did not want to succumb to the fact that I had seen a ghost run past the back of the bus. I quickly tried to rationalize. I came up with the concept that since I was standing in front of the bus, the headlights could have caused a reflection against my glasses and what I had actually had seen was a recruit who had been running past the front of the bus. I took a scan around the form up area and saw that everyone was where they ought to be and no one seemed to have been running around. My concept was proven wrong. I tried to dismiss it. I got my recruits to load up the bus and as I waited for them, I turned to my section commander and told him what I saw. He was momentarily stunned. I told him to forget I said anything and to board the bus. We headed back. Nothing else happened that night after we left the range. Nonetheless, I slept with the lights on that night. I talked to an ex-colleague of mine recently. He happened to be there that night and that particular recruit was in his platoon. He told me that he believes what the recruit said he had seen because the recruit was known to him to be the cocky sort. And since the incident, the recruit had become humbled.

The next tale I have to share still remains a mystery to me. During the 8 months that I was a platoon commander in BMTC ‘C’ Coy, I took a total of 4 batches of recruits. 2 obese batches, 1 enhanced batch and the last was a PES C recourse. I was the platoon commander of platoon 1 for the first three batches. And this was something that the recruits themselves shared with me. The weirdest thing is, all 3 batches related the same story to me. 3 totally different batches at different times, with very little chance of them knowing each other or even sharing a ghostly tale amongst themselves. The similarity of their stories puzzles me. Apparently there were some nights, when recruits were returning from late night visits to the toilet, they would chance upon a ‘lady’ in one of the bunks. The lady was always described to be similar to a ‘pontianak’. She had long flowing hair and a white garment that draped her body. Even the locations of the sightings were identical. She would always be seen in section 1’s bunk, sitting on the wooden cabinet at the foot of the last bed on the left. Strangely enough, that bed would be unoccupied. Either the recruit assigned to that bed went ‘Out Of Course’ (OOC) or the actual occupant would move to another vacant bed. The tale never went beyond that sighting. Recruits who claimed to have chanced upon the apparition usually claim to walk away from the bunk and return to find the lady gone. That is as far as the story goes.

In early 2004, I was serving as a Platoon Commander in the 2nd Singapore Infantry Regiment. This was the time when 3 armed robbers unknowingly made their way into Pulau Tekong after a robbery in Malaysia. My battalion was activated to help out in the island-wide manhunt of these 3 perpetrators. For the 2 days that we were there, the task of my battalion was to comb the area north and east of the Tekong reservoir. Basically what we would have to do is to form up in a straight line, spread out and comb through the vegetations. We were to practice ROE on them upon contact. So this was the case. The particular area of ops for my platoon is the .55 knoll beside the reservoir. We did what we were told. Spread out and comb. The vegetation was dense. And from 8am in the morning till 7 in the evening we basically just walked and walked. Keeping a keen eye and ear for anything suspicious. Keep in mind that I have had experience residing in Tekong before this incident. But never before have i felt so uneasy while i was on this mission. True that this is a real mission with real bullets and real enemies. But i just do not know. Basically, what I had experienced, some would describe as hallucinations induced by a real combat experience. Some would possibly dismiss as shadows cast by the trees and leaves. Well I do not know what it was. All I know is that throughout the mission, while walking amongst the trees and shrubs, i kept seeing life-like figures darting around on my sides. And I remember this clearly. These figures were in a shade of brown. Not grey like you would get when shadows are cast. Brown figures darting around. How do I know that its not my men walking around. Because my men walk around. They do not dart around. The whole scenario was like having a section of men doing fire and movement alongside me as I walked. It was just so surreal. And to think that this was happenning in broad daylight. Till now I still get the chills when I recall this story.

Nevertheless, this is also 1 of my fav...

for those scared shitless into encountering strange stuff in NS, dont be . its only the first few times scary, after awhile you will get used to it (or the thing gets used to you).

anyway my contribution! bmtc 1, B, level 5.. during the first few weeks there some of my platoon mates found their mosquito nets pulled up all the way to their necks in the middle of the night and.. their shirts forcefully tucked in all the way. we thought it was actually nothing much at first la, cause our sergeants were playful since the first day we knew them den one section was issued a beret to hang on the door to "stop" those occurances, that was when i started to get scared also, somemore my section hadnt experianced anything bizzare yet... until the thursday night before bookout.. cant remember which week it was.

was pretty tiring day la but still i ****ing woke up at 3am to pee as i woke up, i heard 2 of my section mates talking to each other, didnt find it odd strangely since they were speaking in english so i stood up and brushed my mosquito net aside (no my shirt wasnt tucked in lol) distinctly.. i recall seeing the guy sleeping in the middle end suddenly stand up and put on his jockey cap (my section had 13 pple).. this one cant really confirm since i was ****ing sleepy.

"whos that whos that?'

"me lah, d*****"

"i am going to toliet, want join me?"

"WAIT, can you hear that?"

den i realised there was a chinese tune playing, like those 60s melody you know? qin gin... de yi ke ren.. yue liang da bao wo de xin.. okok not that clear la but quite chinky, that was when my hair started standing, the music wasnt stopping and it was coming from the bunk, i immediately looked at the 13th bed ... and remembered i was urgent to pee, by now, another of my section mates woke up so we 4 went to pee together.

when we came back, we decided to investigate the problem after a short 5 min discussion outside the bunk. honestly, i regret this decision to this day and i advise all recruits not to investigate stuff cause you might not be as lucky as me. we sourced the music to the bed 2 guy's cupboard, one of those talking when i woke up... he suddenly realises his shirt has been tucked in... and when we look at his mosquito net, its ****ing all the way to the pillow. this was the werid part, his locker was still locked and the sound was coming from it, so we slowly got him to open it..... i remember the conversation man

"eh, what if we see soemthing and go mental for the rest of our lifes?"

"hearing this music every night den sure go mental already"

den.. as we slanted the cupboard door, we saw a red light.... seriously ****ing bright red light... we all took one step back... and realised it was a demonic ****ed up alarm clock that played chinese music.

I kenna similar incident b4 when i was training in sispec.

We were having field camp training and slept in the forest, literally, just find some flat ground in the forest and sleep.

While I was sleeping something brushed on my face, not leafy kind of touch, it's really a bushy tail/ taoist whip kind of brushy feeling.

I tot wtf what is it, just use hands to sweep aside.

Then it keeps happening but i f**king zonked out so just shift my head downwards so it cannot brush me anymore... ... :cheeky:

Til this day i dismissed it as either:

a) some small animal(s) playing a fool

b) some retard instructors playing a fool :sian:

c) ... ... ... ...

Even if it is c), sleeping through it seems to help!

I always chant "I nv disturb u, pls dun disturb me!" or "Im just here to do my duty, pls pardon me!" when i "see"/ "feel"/ "hear" things.

Coz seriously, im here to do my duty, it disturb me, i still gotta finish my duty (or mission whatever)...

It was an usual night out with my girlfriend. We were having a wonderful time when she complained that she was not feeling too good. Well, being the gentleman as I am of course I send her home.

She was staying in Tampines and I had the choice of either using the TPE (Tampines Expressway) or to cut though the Old Tampines Rd. Since, it was quite late already, I decided to glide through TPE.

When we reached her place soon, I chatted with her parents for a while and left for home soon after. Now I had to decide on which route to take again. Since I was tired and hungry, I decided to take the Old Tampines Rd, being the shorter one and it is also near to Hougang where there are coffee place where i can take some snacks.

Nothing happened on the road though I must admit that I was feeling rather uneasy. Half way through, I was beginning to feel like something is sitting behind me. My bike was feeling heavier by the second and no matter how hard I turned the throttle, the 200cc bike could not go faster. I was running on full tank.

I was beginning to feel a little spooked. I sensed something is behind me and I felt something brushing on my neck. Come to think of it, it actually felt like hair! Well, I couldn’t sustain my curiosity and quickly turned my head to see what’s (or who’s) bothering me.

I had the shock of life. I saw someone, or something. I assumed it was a lady, in white, with long hair. MY GOD!!… IT’S A PONTIANAK!! I broke into cold sweat.

She was sitting on my bike, the “kampong” style, i.e. Her legs were not across the seat but instead she was seating on the side, her legs together and facing my right direction. Thank god I didn’t get to see her face!

I didn’t spend too much time “admiring” her. In the split second, I looked back in front and focused on the road. Kept praying to myself… Please GOD help me!!

Soon I reached the main road, thank God. I sped all the way home. One piece of advise for all bikers out there, NEVER take the Old Tampines Rd at night. Never!

well now u know....that area is dirty before they build TPE...heard this story when i was young...
