Asked to pay cigarette tax at SG Custom for SG cigarettes!

Anyone encountered this before?

I was entering SG custom from Malaysia and that time I had with me SG cigarettes but was asked to pay tax for all of the SG cigarettes after I had declared them! Even though I was given a choice to destroy all of the cigarettes but I decided to keep them all because the cost is still lower than what I had paid for the SG cigarettes...

I was like WTFOMFGBBQ #*%$@#! I had to pay for my Singapore bought legal cigarettes!

 

Can anyone confirm on this issue?

my friend's dad when to malacca with 5 box of sg cigg, unopened. came back, left 2 box unopened. declare at custom, they let him go..

i think muz depends whether your sg cig is opened or not...if opened mabbie malaysia cig mixed with it...if unopened, den maybe not justified...

not sure...anyone cares to enlighten us?

well for one ting customs always noes whether it msia cigs or sg cigs.. jus by lookin or even smelling it they can tell e diff.. tats why no use buyin msia cigs put in sg box, if they really wana kena u den bo pian.. suck thumb lor...

my first time, and i got no intentions of smuggling, pleaded for mercy, but office juz wanna fine me and ask me to wait outside the room until i got money..

the question is, if someone got no money to pay the $200 fine, and have no friends that have the ability to lend him, will he have to stay there forever ?

its made very clear that any unopened pack of duty unpaid ciggs is liable for tax .. failing to declare they have the right to fine u up to 20 times the amount of tax + gst

waaa...you got fined for unopened pack? i bought a pack for my friend. so i nvr open. i put under my seat. then they ask me open the seat. then the police officer ask me only 1 pack ah? then he ask me open it. then ask me to go. i dint quite get it till someone told me. it had to be opened.

if normally bring in one pax without open they mostly only will ask you go pay for the tax... so far this is the first time i heard tat someone actually got fine for 1 pax... hmm... are they more ON now??? btw for those say tat stop smoking... i think this thread is talking about cig got tax at custom... so got nothing to do quit smoking... so i think you all better keep the comment for yourself as we all are grown men and ladies here... we know when we want to smoke and when to stop... thanks

By right, they can tax you for even ONE STICK.

By practice, they tax you only when you have one full pack of foreign cigarettes.

Agreed, man... maybe the best time to do this is during the peak hours in the morning when a lot of Malaysian riders buzzling through the checkpoint and the customs waive them through (happened to me many times) but be prepared for the congestion (which can be very bad and irritating ). May luck be on the sides of those who are about to venture through the quest .
